At my depo this morning defs counsel was running late. I was waiting in the doc's office, but
decided to go out to the lobby where app's counsel (or so I thought) was waiting. I asked for
a copy of the caption so I could jot down the info. I saw that her name was not listed under the
firm's name at the top, so I proceeded to ask her name. After she provides it, she follows it up
with "I'm not an 'Esquire,' and I don't have a Bar number," at which time late-arriving counsel
walks through the door, apologizing profusely so I didn't get a chance to ask for clarification.
The only thing I can think of is that she's a hearing rep. I searched for the firm's website on
the CA Bar site to see how/if she's "titled" there, but there is no website/email address listed.

Does anyone know of a website where hearing reps are listed? If I can't find her, I'll guess I could
phone the firm -- or I could just list her name and be done with it!!

What I've done is just put "Appearing on behalf of," and then list the law firm's name. I can't think of the proper name right now that they are considered, but do know a lot of firms hire them to sit in on depos and takes notes.
Thanks for your response, Rosalie, but this was definitely not a Special Appearance
on her behalf. After speaking with some colleagues, we've agreed that she's a
hearing reporter (esp since this was a WCAB case) but just didn't specify that. I've
actually had hearing reps that have handed out bus. cards or specified that they are
hearing reps.

Anyhow, thanks for your input.
I thought you were referring to J.D.'s (that's the proper name (acro.) I couldn't think of earlier), which are the ones who show up on behalf of the applicants in about 95 percent of the WCAB depos I do.
Other than licensed attys, I've only had hearing reps ever appear.
