From DRA: Obama Administration weighing replacement of Cout Reporters for ER

Did anyone else receive this e-mail today about the Obama Adminstration voting on cutting out court reporters for ER from DRA?  There was a link to vote against it, and I did, but I wanted to share the story and I didn't know how.  I'm curious if anybody else out there received it and is sharing it as well.

NCRA is requesting people vote for Shift to Senior Transit Fares.   I voted for it.

Is this just officials or all reporters, freelance, too?

Here's the text, Kerry.  I believe it's both, for meetings and hearings.

Use Digital Transcription

James Szender of Anchorage, Alaska

Land Transfer Resolutions Specialist at the Department of the Interior

A written transcript of Federal meetings or hearings is often required. James from the Department of the Interior proposes, whenever possible, using digital equipment for transcripts instead of hiring a court reporter, as using digital transcription is significantly less expensive than getting a certified court reporter to attend, record, and transcribe the proceedings.

Alaska uses ER quite a bit.  Few court reporters are available there.  On big trials, reporters from the Lower 48 hop up there to help.  Lack of coverage makes a good argument for ER in isolated areas.

Huh. Didn't Obama promise to CREATE jobs, not ELIMINATE them? Rhetorical question.

This wasn't Obama trying to eliminate jobs.  They have a contest amongst federal employees to submit ideas on how to save the government money, and this was some nitwit's idea.  Has nothing to do with Obama.  And I'm not saying that because I'm a staunch supporter.  I more ride the fence, but I chose not to vote for him, as I wasn't pleased with his first four years.  And that's all I will say about that.  LOL

Good news for court reporters.  The proposal to replace court reporters for federal meetings and hearings was not the winning proposal.
