Hi, I'm using the student version of Eclipse and am wondering if there's a way to take the SD card out of my Mira and read it into Eclipse. I've switched my "read from" to the drive where the card is located but when I translate it, gibberish shows up (numbers, letters, and miscellaneous untrans). I was going to have another student help me but she wasn't in class the last two weeks. My instructor can't figure it out either. I decided to post my question here instead of calling Stenograph and…

Has anyone else had this problem? In the middle of a realtime job the screen died, the connection still held and the realtime still appeared on the laptop, but my Mira screen is just dead. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Does anyone have any good ideas for archiving SD cards? They're fairly cost-effective, so I tend to just hold on to them. But they're so small that I haven't figured out a decent way to identify them, identify the contents and achive for quick retrieval.

I thought it might be helpful to just upload the manual. Please check out Chapter 5, key settings. It explains how to adjust your machine and in what order. I hope this helps someone, anyone. The frustrating thing about this machine is that there are 3 sections of the machine to adjust, they need to be done in a specific order, and it needs a little tune-up after use and being jostled around during the drive and whatever else we're rolling our carts on to get to the depo site.

Lo and behold, my Mira is rarely stacking (twice in 130 pgs) and I'm not getting any dribbling/repeating of letters. I previously posted the machine adjustment order somewhere in this group. I'm going to print it out and send it to my authorized service provider so that they can give a copy to Mira owners after a cleaning/refurbishment. I sure would have liked that info myself.

Regarding a maintenance contract, Tom Janus/Stenograph accepted my work order from StenoDoctor which outlined work done to my Mira and that it was brought back to factory settings. I was able to purchase their basic / no loaner maintenance contract at regular price. And my whole reasoning for doing this is that I want the software updates. Unfortunately you can't get the updates unless you're on a contract.

If any of you are still experiencing problems, please let Stenograph now. Be a squeaky wheel. Stewing in your own juice just turns you into a prune -- I oughta know . . .
Do you J-define every stack as you come to it? Do you E-define the stacks and separated strokes when no format symbol is involved (like answer bank)? Do you D-define any stacks during the job or later and actually put them in your main dictionary?
I'm a student scoping a job for a Mira reporter. There's a ton of stacks, and after reading these threads, I believe it when the reporter said the stacking started with purchase of the Mira. I'd like to scope more jobs for this reporter and would appreciate any recommendations for best way to handle the editing and contribute to main dictionary, if the problem can't be prevented on the writing end.
Thanks for your help, everyone!
I am part of an Elan Mira Users Group with CSR Nation, a nationwide forum with over 4,000 reporters. Many members watch what the group has to say about the Mira before making any purchase. I think Stenograph would like to know what is being said about this machine and the problems that are being encountered by the reporters using it; namely, the stacking (even after a certified technician has gone thru it) and the repeat (dribbling) strokes of single letters, and letters coming up that weren't even stroked by the reporter. There are many, many frustrated Mira users out here (I am one) and would appreciate Stenograph's input to resolve these problems.

I am going to copy this post to several Mira users groups online. We're all hoping something can be done.

Reporting every last word is extremely stressful, and when you notice the Mira stacking, our stress becomes tenfold.
Earning our living in a profession that requires 97.5% accuracy, our Miras need to work like they're supposed to.

Thank you kindly for your attention to this crucial matter, and I look forward to hearing from Stenograph.
UPDATE: I finally got fed up with the constant adjustments on my Elan Mira. There is a certified service provider in my area (Orange Co., CA), The Steno Doctor. I called their office and was informed that Stenograph trained nationwide tech/repair providers last year on this issue. Apparently, there's a doo-hickey in the Mira that gets pitted over time and the stacking starts. A certified repair tech replaces the doo-hickey, does a cleaning/maintenance and your Mira will be good to go.
I'm having a lot of problems with stacking, split strokes and double strokes (the the) when writing on my Mira. I've adjusted it every way I can think of. I have my stroke set as long as it can be. I have most of my individual keys set at 6 or 7 and I still get all this CRAP. Actually, when I push back the stroke length (the wheel at the front left inside), everything works pretty well except for occasional split strokes ("need" comes out TPHA / ED) and that danged bouncing T causing "the the"…

I also constantly stack the Question ID.

I'm wondering if anyone else has a problem like this with their Mira. I'm starting to think that it's my hands that are going and not the machine, but they feel fine. I'm just curious about other people's experience.
