Video Format Workflow

What is your current format workflow? I would like to get an idea what is or is not working in the ever changing world of video formats. Please share tips and insights.
I began in the good old days of VHS (be kind, rewind). For the last decade or so I have used 2 DVD recorders and HDD/SD Card in camera as back up. Since DVD recorders have gone the way of the Dodo bird I am now moving to MP4 file based only.

.mts to mpeg2 or .mov if they have a mac. That is our current workflow. We master from the SD card. Always from its HD file. We will upload to Dropbox or burn onto a DVD for the client. We always crop to 4x3 unless asked to specifically provide widescreen which rarely happens.
