Hi, how are you? Excuse me for the slow response - I've been burried in transcripts through the whole week. That sounds great, the swapping of ideas, tapes, coffee and whatnot. I haven't found anything from this site either, but I've heard and read that it takes quite a while to break into scoping.
You have a great ad here, and it looks like you have the right background to do scoping, so I don't really know at a glance how you could tweak anything. I actually have decided to persue proofreading and copy editing more than scoping because those jobs are easier to get than scoping.
Sometimes you don't even need experience, just a degree in English or journalism or something else related to communications. I just want more income where I can do something else besides steno-writing.
The key to scoping jobs though, is marketing. You have to be a really good salesperson to convince a court reporter that dosen't know you and never met why he or she should give you part of his or her hard-earned income.
One time I almost landed a scoping job after calling all across the country, but I wasn't familiar enough with my equipment to know that I actually could receive and open files in my student CAT software from the professional version of the software, and I had Eclipse professional software, so I thought I couldn't take the job. And after all of that calling, I should have at least tried to see if it would work out!
Marketing is just tiring, and I just had a baby five months ago, so I'm taking every easy route I can find with no apologies (Chuckling).
