      Proofreader/Court Reporter

If you’re  a court reporter, then you know that the transcript production demand has increased over the last 5 years or so.  And we are all working together -- court reporters, scopists, proofreaders, etc. -- to meet those demands.

I’ve been a court reporter for 12 years,  and I do use a scopist to help me with production.  This leaves plenty of time for me to proofread my own transcripts -- which I love -- and to also assist colleagues that need help proofing.

I was a proofreader for one of the largest court reporting firms in Chicago while I attended school, and it’s something that I’ve always had a passion for.  I love catching errors, researching words, and just seeing the final transcript come together.

If you are interested in hiring a proofreader, you can contact me for turnaround times and rates at: (312)307-1962 or djmoore1977@yahoo.com (preferred)

Busy? Overwhelmed? Exhausted? Need five extra minutes to maintain your sanity? I can help!

Instead of taking the time to proofread your transcripts yourself, send them to me. I will go over them, fact checking dates and addresses, correcting punctuation for readability, and catching those sneaky typos that slip by. When you give your transcript to me, I'm a set of fresh eyes. I'll do my best to make sure you have a clean, accurate transcript. I work by marking on PDF. Audio is available upon request at a different rate.

For references I use:

  • Lillian Morson's English Guide for Court Reporters
  • Bad Grammar, Good Punctuation by Margie Wakeman Wells
  • Gregg's Reference Manual
  • The best punctuation book, period. by June Casagrande
  • The Merriam-Webster Dictionary
  • Various Internet sources (e.g. drugs.com, usacourts.gov, etc)

And most importantly:

  • Your preferences.

I will take your preferences into account when proofreading. Like the Oxford comma? Great! Hate it? Ok, that's fine too. I'm here to help YOU.

Please don't hesitate to e-mail me with any jobs, questions, or just to chat! Please visit my website here for more information or e-mail me at natalie@tobrighteststars.com.

Very experienced former freelance reporter now seeking proofreading work.

Hi, everyone.  My name is Randall Young.  I've been a freelance reporter for the past 30 years.  During that time, I have been fortunate enough to have lived and worked in a number of very large urban areas all over the U.S.  There are a lot of good proofreaders out there, but we all know that correct punctuation and format in the court reporting world isn't necessarily the same in the real world.  But isn't it nice to know that your proofreader completely understands all your dilemmas? I feel your pain.  I sympathize.  I've been there.

.  phenomenal rates

.  phenomenal turnaround time

.  Accurate, dependable and talented.

If you're looking for a full-time proofreader or temporary substitute or anything in between, why not try my work?  I think you will be very pleased.
