If you're looking for quality and professionalism in a proofreader, then you've come to the right place. I have over 20 years of experience in reading and editing reports and documents in the fields of science, education, medical death investigation, and legal investigations.

I can provide a trained and knowledgeable eye to help court reporters achieve a perfect transcript, free of errors in punctuation, spelling, or format. I proofread a variety of texts, to include depositions, EUOs, expert testimony, and other court proceedings, and return corrected pages via email in PDF format.

My goal is to help you submit completed transcripts that are as free from errors as possible. Want to connect and learn more about my services? You can contact me at, or check out my website at I'm also on LinkedIn, at

Tired of going over the same words looking for that mistake that you just know is hiding somewhere? Put my keen eye to work for you!

I'm currently available to take on new clients, as well as proofreading one-off jobs. I offer a 20 percent discount on the first transcript for all new clients, and I will proofread the first 15 pages of that transcript for free. I prefer to work in PDF, but I can do errata sheets if that's more your thing. My rates are as follows:

Regular (two business days):       $.40 per page

Rushed (one business day):          $.50 per page

Expedited (< one business day):  $.65 per page

Save yourself the headaches, and let me do the nitpicking for you! You can contact me at If you'd like to learn more about me or my rates, visit my website:

Busy? Overwhelmed? Exhausted? Need five extra minutes to maintain your sanity? I can help!

Instead of taking the time to proofread your transcripts yourself, send them to me. I will go over them, fact checking dates and addresses, correcting punctuation for readability, and catching those sneaky typos that slip by. When you give your transcript to me, I'm a set of fresh eyes. I'll do my best to make sure you have a clean, accurate transcript. I work by marking on PDF. Audio is available upon request at a different rate.

For references I use:

  • Lillian Morson's English Guide for Court Reporters
  • Bad Grammar, Good Punctuation by Margie Wakeman Wells
  • Gregg's Reference Manual
  • The best punctuation book, period. by June Casagrande
  • The Merriam-Webster Dictionary
  • Various Internet sources (e.g.,, etc)

And most importantly:

  • Your preferences.

I will take your preferences into account when proofreading. Like the Oxford comma? Great! Hate it? Ok, that's fine too. I'm here to help YOU.

Please don't hesitate to e-mail me with any jobs, questions, or just to chat! Please visit my website here for more information or e-mail me at

Very experienced former freelance reporter now seeking proofreading work.

Hi, everyone.  My name is Randall Young.  I've been a freelance reporter for the past 30 years.  During that time, I have been fortunate enough to have lived and worked in a number of very large urban areas all over the U.S.  There are a lot of good proofreaders out there, but we all know that correct punctuation and format in the court reporting world isn't necessarily the same in the real world.  But isn't it nice to know that your proofreader completely understands all your dilemmas? I feel your pain.  I sympathize.  I've been there.

.  phenomenal rates

.  phenomenal turnaround time

.  Accurate, dependable and talented.

If you're looking for a full-time proofreader or temporary substitute or anything in between, why not try my work?  I think you will be very pleased.

You've got a lot to get done and (of course) not enough time to do it all. Something's gotta give. What are you going to sacrifice to get your work done? Family time? Exercise? Sleep? Sanity?

Life doesn't have to be that way. You can do it all without giving up what's important to you.

Take back your free time -- hire a proofreader.

  • No extra charge for weekend/holiday work
  • Will proof to full or partial audio
  • Wicked fast communication -- I'm serious!

Hi there!

Picky, picky, picky – that’s me, but in a good way! My obsessive attention to detail will help you produce outstanding transcripts.  I pledge to read every word and do extensive research to make sure all names, terms, locations, etc. are spelled correctly. And I seem to have a knack for figuring out a puzzling word or phrase when you say, “It sounded something like this…”

I have found that my paralegal background and hands-on training in court reporting school makes me a more well-rounded proofreader with a better understanding of the challenges you face in recording verbatim proceedings.

My longtime (since 1996) court reporter client is taking an extended hiatus, so I am now available, with red pen in hand, to take on your most challenging  depos.

The details:

Paralegal Certificate (Honors) – Roosevelt University, Chicago

Court Reporting School – Merit College (2 years)

                        BA (Sociology)-- University of Illinois

                        Proofreading experience - 21 years

Please contact me at: to discuss your project or chat about rates and turnaround times. I’m looking forward to partnering with you in a long-term relationship!

I would love to work with you too and look forward to being a part of your team.
