I got the Job!!!
Hello everyone!
Just have to thank everyone for all your advice on finding an agency to work for! Your kind words really helped me. I am glad I found this webpage. You all are such very nice people, I can't thank you enough! I had an interview today and it went well. I have one foot in the door. I will be sitting in with reporters for this agency and will be handing in transcripts! Hopefully I will start working for them very soon!

Having the hardest time finding a court reporting job!!!
Is it just me???? I am having the hardest time finding a court reporting job..SO many agencies here in New York won't take new reporters!! Why? We have to start somewhere!! Anyone having the same problem? I filled out an application for Workers' Comp. Found out they are not giving out the exam for it, they are just grading applications. Why aren't they giving out the test? Does anyone know?

Bill Roberts said… - Heather, don't give up. There are many agencies that will train beginners. We have a training program for beginners where we work with new reporters right on up through certification. I think it's a matter of commitment to the profession. Unfortunately, some are in it for the money only. Good luck with your search!

- Hi Heather. Yes, i do practice a lot. Right now i am at 190 Q and A , Jury 180 and Lits 180. I am suppose to graduate in October which i am hoping to achieve. Four years!!!! OMG that's a long time...I would die in that school if i was there for four years. lol
As far as the job market, i spoke to a friend of mines whose an attorney and she said it is slow for them right now so it going to be slow for the court reporters. Hopefully things will pick up. Keep me posted.

Thanks for the add. I love this site. This is such a great way for you to learn some of the ropes before you get out of school. Because trust me, the real world is so much different. I really didn't have confidence in myself until I had been out for about 5 years or so. You learn so much once you're out of school. I've been doing this for 15 years and I'm still learning, especially because when I graduated and started working we didn't have the technology we have today. So glad to meet you. And don't hestitate to ask if you have any questions.
