Conservatively NCRA has cumulatively lost over $2,000,000 during the last 16 years.

During those 16 years JCR Court Reporter Listing advertisers have cancelled their ads by the dozens because of their great dissatisfaction with with the policy of the NCRA board of directors and NCRA staff in listing the Court Reporter Listings in NO order.

During those 16 years JCR Court Reporter Listing advertisers have cancelled their ads by the dozens because of their great dissatisfaction with with the policy of the NCRA board of directors and NCRA staff in listing the Court Reporter Listings in NO order.

NOTE: The ads are listed by seniority which is equivalent of listing the ads in NO order.

As of the May issue of JCR 94 ads per issue or 7.8 pages of JCR Court Reporter Listing ads have been lost per issue of the magazine. (Approximately a loss of 8 pages of ads per issue)

Explanation: The peak number of 261 domestic ads in 1993 had declined to 167 domestic ads with the May 2009 issue of JCR.

This progression of loss of ads has occured over each of the last 16 years. That's where the cumulative large loss of revenue comes from.

Now of the remaining 167 domestic JCR CRL ads, those ads are priced far, far below their market value.

For example, if a 1/6 page ad were to sell for $200, a 1/12 page ad would sell for $100, 50% of the cost of a 1/6 page ad, but there is always an additional charge on smaller sized ads so that a 1/6 page ad might sell for $220.

As of the May issue of JCR, the 167 domestic JCR Court Reporter Listing ads are sold at far, far below their market value as follows:

A 10-time JCR 1/6 page display ad sells for $360 versus a 1/12 page JCR Court Reporter Listing ad selling for $100 per month.

That's not even adding the additional charge added onto each smaller sized ad as smaller sized ads pay a higher rate for the percentage of the page used.

In a nutshell, the NCRA board of directors and NCRA staff have not run the JCR advertising as a "profit making" proposition but rather have run the JCR Court Reporter Listing ad section as a "non-profit" ad section with ads selling far, far less than their market value.

Each ad is minimally priced at $80 less than the market value of each ad.

Just multiply a loss of $80 per ad for 167 ads, and you get a loss of $13,360 per issue of the magazine, a loss $133,600 per year for ten issues of the magazine .

Then taking into account the net loss of 94 ads per issue since 1993, which ads should be selling for at a minumum of $180 each, that's a loss of $16,920 per issue, a loss of $169,200 per year.

Adding the yearly losses of $133,600 and $169,200 totals a yearly loss of $302,800.

And again I haven't taken into account the 200 ads that the ad section should have increased by over the last 16 years, i.e. instead of 261 ads in 1993 there should be 461 ads in 2009.

In a nutshell, the JCR Magazine JCR Court Reporter Listing ad section has been run with NO standards as a business courtesy to freelance agencies.

I say the magazine should be run as a profit making magazine with all advertisers paying their fair share based on the market value of ads.

I say stop the Big Giveaways by the NCRA board of directors and staff.

I say let the magazine be run as a profit making magazine generating profit by charging the going market rate for JCR Court Reporter Listing ads.

I say let the magazine policies be set according to high business standards and not by the NCRA board and staff saying anything that comes into their minds to defend their policies without regard to the merit or truthfulness of what they are saying.

Can we afford to have policies set based upon untruthful statements put forth by the NCRA board and staff without regard to any business standards?

Can NCRA afford to run a non-profit ad section without any regard to losses of advertisers and without regard to making a decent profit from the ads?
When the aforementioned agencies double their JCR Court Reporter Listing ads to make a 1/6 page ad in the JCR Court Reporter Listing ad section the cost to the agencies for their 1/6 page ad is $200.

Therefore, in each issue of the JCR magazine the aforementioned firms each save $160 per month on the cost of their 1/6 page ad.

At 10 issues of the magazine per year, the aforementioned firms save $1,600 each per year on the market value of 1/6 page ads in JCR Magazine.

Giving two big firms $1,600 each in discounted ad rates is a total of $3,200 in special discounts.

The NCRA board of directors has said those JCR Court Reporter Listing ads must be sold at below their market value or else the advertisers would cancel their ads, and that, after all, the NCRA board of directors giving low ad rates is merely helping NCRA members who are freelance agency owners.

I said I wish average non-freelance agency owner members could get some preferential treatment and such a wonderful benefit as is given freelance agency owners, a benefit worth far more than any dues those freelance agency owners pay.

I have always said what about the poor average NCRA members who must have their dues raised to cover revenue shortfalls while the NCRA board is discounting ad prices as a special favor to freelance agencies, some of whose owners are NCRA members and some of whose owners are not NCRA members.

Anybody check? Is Merrill Corporation a member of NCRA to benefit from ads sold below their market value?

The National Paralegal Reporter Magazine charges $300 for a 6-time 1/6 page ad and $205 for a 6-time 1/12 page ad.

Again you see higher ad rates for the smaller percentage of the page used for the smaller segments of the page used.

The National Paralegal Reporter Magazine has 10,000 members.

Keep in mind your board's subsidization of the JCR Court Reporter Listing ad section means you sell your 1/12 page ads for $100 per ad versus the National Paralegal Reporter Magazine which charges $205 for the same 1/12 page ad.

Is the NCRA board of directors policy of subsidization of ads for freelance agencies in the best interests of the entire association and all its various segments of members?
The loyalty of NCRA board members should always be to the very best interests of NCRA members, not to your staff, not to each other as a monolithic board.

The best interests of the members, members, members should be of paramount concern and priority to board members if you are to be held to the highest of standards in good competent leadership.

Several court reporters in past years have included the patron saint's cards in Christmas cards sent to court reporter friends.

Through special arrangements with Father Nadolny, I provide the patron saint's cards to the court reporting profession handling the requests and doing the mailings.

The cards have been blessed by Father Nadolny. A few years ago I took all the cards to the Sacred Heart Church rectory where Father Nadolny conducted a beautiful, beautiful blessing ceremony over the cards.

I myself receive no payment for my services, and thus far I have paid all the postage myself.

Father Nadolny accepts donations for the court reporter patron saint's cards.

If anyone requesting the cards wishes to donate to Father Nadolny's Good News Fund, donations are greatly appreciated by Father Nadolny, and he often sends the people thank-you notes and special gifts. One court reporter was so very, very thrilled to receive a Jesus doll from Father Nadolny, the Jesus doll created by Father Nadolny and Mr. Joe Roy.

People may be interested in the Father Nadolny Good News Fund. In the past that fund has sent T-shirt gifts to our troops to Iraq and aided to the Hurricane Katrina victims with tractor trailer trucks of botttled water sent from Connecticut to Louisiana.

Here's a partial list of the 2008 yearly report on the Father Nadolny Good News Fund for last year.

The Good News Fund gave the following donations in 2008:

1. To adopting and hosting orphans from the Ukraine.

2. To support Sacred Heart Seminary in the Ukraine.

3. To support St. Paul Seminary in Sierre Leone, West Africa.

4. For display of 20 billboards that read: "Lord, Remember that Nothing is Going to Happen to Me Today that You and I Can't Handle."

5. To donatge to 24 parishes and schools in Connecticut from our clothing bins entitled Kiducation Program.

6. To donate to the Sisters of Mercy.

7. To present live and taped TV programs and radio spots.

8. To help unwed mothers through the St. Girard's Home in Hartford.

9. To place religous advertisements in newspapers.

10. To distribute Catholic booklerts and prayer cards (i.e. Catholic Prayers, Advent and Lent Booklets, lose weight prayers and other religious items for the home).

It's important that the 2008 report of the Father Nadolny's Good News Fund be available to court reporters, some of which reporters have tried to cast a bad aspirations on the patron saint's cards being provided to the court reporting profession.

In closing, the court reporter patron saint's cards are available for the Christmas season as well as copies of The Court Reporter Creed, the original version and revised version.
