THIS AGENCY WILL NOT PAY YOU.. DO NOT WORK FOR THEM

Do not work for DCR LITIGATION (Duke Court Reporters) located in Westlake Village.  After saying they will pay for one of the few jobs I did for them back in April, I still have not received anything.  Excuses after excuses.  THEY USED TO POST ON CSR Nation, but I think their reputation is going around.

I just want to warn other reporters out there so they don't end up like me....working for free.

Rocket Reporting is another non-paying agency.

I will be in Contra Costa Small Claims Court on Monday with Annette Duke, DCR Reporting . That is if she shows up. Hard to imagine that she would fly up here for court when there is no excuse for non-payment. We shall see. A real peach she is!

CAN'T BELIEVE THIS AGENCY IS STILL IN BUSINESS.  THE OWNER IS RUDE, CONDESCENDING.   I WAS SHAKING AFTER SHE YELLED AT ME ON THE PHONE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIIGHT.  SHE IS A BULLY, NOT A TEAM PLAYER , AND UNFIT TO BE A OWNER OF AN AGENCY.  SHE TREATS REPORTERS LIKE SLAVES, THREATENS TO SIC HER ATTORNEY HUSBAND ON YOU,  DOESN'T PAY HER OWN REPORTERS, AND NOW I FIND 2800 PROFESSIONAL CSR'S HAVE COMPLAINTS ABOUT HER.  SHE NEEDS TO BE REPORTED BY US REPORTERS.!   WE  DO NOT DESERVE SUCH DISGRACEFUL BEHAVIOR.

THERE IS AN AWFUL FIRM IN WESTLAKE VILLAGE THAT DOES NOT PAY.  SPREAD THE WORD - DO NOT WORK FOR THEM.  YOU WILL NOT GET PAID WITHOUT GOING AFTER THEM.  I KNOW DOZENS OF REPORTERS STILL TRYING TO COLLECT FROM THEM.

This is probably old hat.....but Reporters Unlimited out of San Pedro is another to avoid.  The owner (Dianne McGivern) also has a bully of a husband who likes to intimidate to compensate for his size.....if you know what I mean!!  I took her (them) to small claims a little over a month ago and settled for 50 cents on the dollar just to never have to see their mugs again.  They actually accused me of assault and battery when Dianne tried to walk away with the dismissal form without paying me my 50-cents-on-the-dollar settlement.  I tried to return the form to the small claims clerk.  The form ripped in half, and they both, in unison, screamed, "She hit her.  She hit her."  Meaning....that I hit Dianne.  All this because she owes me gobs of money for hard work performed.  I was willing to erase them from my memory bank and never speak of them again.....but just the other day, he wrote a scathing (and ridiculously fabricated) retort to a blog on another court reporting site about ME!!!  It's not a chicken-or-the-egg thing....we perform our job, they don't pay.....here we are having to go to court, and they're upset at US?????

Hi Lisa and Lori,

I, too, was in the same boat.  I just got paid a little over a week ago for jobs outstanding since March.  It's unfortunate that it took so much time and effort and finally the threat of a small claims court action for me to get paid, but I have learned a huge lesson, especially since it's the second go-round for me.  I haven't had this experience with any of the many agencies I have done freelance work for.

Hi Lisa

I finally just told Annette that I was filing a small claims action.  Since I took the jobs in the Bay Area, I told her she would have to come up here to make the court appearance.  She yelled at me and told me that she was going to send her "attorney" husband.  I said go right ahead.  You can't have an attorney in small claims, so I said if he is representing your company that is fine.  Pretty clear cut that I did the work, and you never paid me. She hung up on me after letting me know that they would be "suing me for attorneys' fees after they won."  I said, well, since you can't use an attorney in small claims, that would be pretty difficult.  She said, "Fine.  I am very confident we will win" and hung up on me.  I got a call from her the next day, sweet as pie, saying that she "checked her books" and she did still owe me money.  What a surprise!!  Got a check in two days :)

Update:

I recently got paid from DCR.  This was my final payment owed to me.  Although I am waiting on my copy orders which I haven't yet received a response on.  I hope they will follow through as they did with my O&1 payment.  Reporters have every right to know if copies have been paid on.

Man, I must work for all the wrong firms!!  I had a huge problem with Discovery Works, too.  Finally got paid in full, but I don't think I will be taking more jobs for them.....

Discovery Works Global out of Philadelphia is another one to be aware of.  They are NOT paying reporters and/or network firms.

How familiar this sounds, Lori!
