Microphone / headphone jack - one port. Can't get microphone detected.

I have a brand-new Think Pad with one port for the microphone / headphone.....and I can't get the computer to record from the microphone.....will only record from laptop speakers.  I just ordered a USB microphone for $300+, hoping that will solve it.  In the meantime, anyone else have this problem and know how to resolve????????????????

Remember to keep your packaging as well.  Has to go back in the exact packaging.  They have all sorts of rules you may miss.

Yeah, I know, Kelli..  I called them up and asked what their return policy is, they said 30 days.  So until the Go Mic comes, I'll try it out.

There is a woman-owned company here in Madison WI that everyone should check before ordering any mic or headset equipment.  It's called Full Compass.  They are an audio standard for touring shows and are very nice to smaller requests and can answer all questions posed.  We have been huge fans for years.

Cathy, I hope Martel will give you your money back.  Once they get your credit card information, they're like a dog with a bone and don't want to give it up.

ThinkPad T430.

So the videographer I just worked with confirmed that Martel products are overpriced and customer service is horrible.  He recommended Samson Go Mic portable USB mic from Sam Ash.  I just ordered one for $39.99.  Shout-out to Esrom Jayasinghe of Verbatim Video!!!  Thanks all for your input.

Definitely go to a USB mic.  It's a cleaner feed, from what I've been told by the sound guys at Guitar Center.

Martel has been recommended at least since1981 (when I joined NCRA).  Probably because of their advertising layout and how they market themselves to court reporters.  When something is "recommended by X", it just means, "Hey, everybody, I'm somebody, and I am promoting ---",
