That's cool. I think voice-writing is the way to go, Jill. With this economy and all that's going on in our state courthouses, all the guvna's are looking for a way to cut costs. And it looks like cutting the machine stenographers out of the budget is the way they're gonna do it!! Stay in touch OK? It was great to hear from you!!

Hi, Jill,
I haven't been a student for 25 years so I am not sure about how the job situation and being a student works these days. It would be great if you could do something court reporting related, though. Some of the large agencies used to get students to proof their reporters' work. Sometimes the students were paid and sometimes it was for the benefit of the students to get experience in proofing.
Good luck with your training. After 25 years, I can't think of anything else I would rather make a living doing. The flexibility of freelancing is awesome. I raised my two daughters as a single mom for 15 years and this was the perfect job for that. Now that they are grown, I have the flexibility of traveling and enjoying life with my new husband! Hang in there!!

Yep, I actually start on the 25th of August. Pretty exciting!!!!!! I have the books and my steno writer so I started by myself already since I took court reporting about 15 years ago, or so. I think I am aging myself now, he he!

Well, Jill, what makes a good reporter? I guess some days we are "gooder" than others. I think attitude is everything in life. Every day as a reporter is like walking into a dark closet. You just don't know what to expect. Will the attorneys be friendly or will they treat me like a piece of furniture? Mostly they are nice and friendly. So a positive attitude really does help to make a good reporter. Not to mention, practice, practice, practice! Good Luck in school. Ihope you get out very soon! Linda

I am STILL not on a good practice schedule yet...haven't been for umm...2 months though, so what's new?! ha ha I really need to apply myself more and I'd be doing much better! UGHHH. Hope you're doing well and had a good weekend.
