Another one bites the dust

What began as five has now become three in my steno theory class.  Seems like the dropout rate is pretty high in steno?  Anyone else watch classmates disappear?  I wonder if the online ratio is different than the on-campus students....

I just finished theory online and when we started, there were 44 students. 14 finished and some are planning to repeat.

Wow.  Congratulations.  I can't imagine taking theory online, I'm not made of that kind of motivation!  I need someone to ride my ass....

Thank you! Well, the classes are incredibly structured and if you fall behind you're kind of done. That's quite enough pressure for me! And they will ride your ass if need be, but by then it's probably too late. Great program. I have 4 young kids, there's no way I could do an on campus program.

Court reporting has a very high dropout rate (probably 90% or above).  We had 40 in my night class when I started.  After two weeks, it was about 12.  Three finished theory.  I was the only one who actually finished the program and became a CR.  Sad.

Wow, I knew it was high, but damn!  Truthfully I would be surprised if our third student completes the program.  Funny, they never told me the graduation rate when I signed up and now I know why.

I'm an on campus student as well but the drop out rate seems pretty high to me, too.  I started with two other girls in my class the first night... then it grew to 8 or 9 by the end of the first month.  Two years later, the original three of us are left plus one of the additional 6 or 7.  My husband started 6 months after I did and he had a pretty big class of 10.  A year and a half later, he is the only one still there!  Like my teacher says, if this job was easy, everyone would do it!  That's why we'll make the big bucks when we finish!
