I am in the market for a new writer.  I am looking at the ProCAT Xpression and the Stenograph Luminex.

Does anyone have experience with either of these writers?  Please let me know what you think.

I have the Impression, which came out before the Xpression.  I'm very happy with it.  It's pretty easy to adjust, and they are very helpful on the phone.  I was starting to have some stacking problems and they were able to walk me thru correcting it and now it's REALLY good.  It's lightweight.  I had a Mira that had terrible stacking problems, went to a Diamante and had terrible splitting problems, and I could never get either one of them to write well.   The only issue I have is that if it's plugged into the wall when you are recording audio, you get a buzz on your recording and also hear it live.  They were not able to resolve that for me.  Mostly I monitor and record thru my laptop so it's not an issue for me.  I just really didn't want to do business with Stenograph anymore either, after 25 years of dealing with them.

Thanks for your input, Deborah.  It's very much appreciated.

This probably won't help you much, Deborah, but that buzzing issue sounds like an electronic filtering issue, which should be an easy fix by purchasing a small thing which fits around your power cord and filters out that buzz.

If you have a Fry's or even a RadioShack in your area, they should understand what it is you need, and actually have it.

I have them both.  The ProCat Xpression crapped out on me on a job 7 months into owning the writer.  I turned around the next day and bought the Luminex.  I think it's a better built writer and I'm using that every day now.

Thanks, Kelli.  That's very helpful.  You might have just helped me make my decision.
