I am a former court reporter with six years of reporting experience. I have been scoping/proofreading for two years. I am looking to broaden my client base. I am currently on Case CATalyst 4 and Digital Cat. I have audio capabilities in both softwares and also have Express Scribe digital transcription software.

Wanted to introduce myself. My name is Cathy Pepe. I'ma NJ CSR, or I should say used to be. I reported a couple of years ago and now am a patient coordinator for a plastic surgery/dermatology center in Livingston, NJ. I absolutely love my job but miss the world of court reporting and I definitely miss the income. I'm thinking of can I still be a part of court reporting but still keep my day job. I'm thinking of proofreading part-time from home.Do you think that I can do this and can you give me some advice of how I can do this? What is the difference between a scopist and proofreader?
Hi, Cathy!

The difference between scoping and proofreading is, scoping is editing with the audio, the first step in the process of preparing a transcript, and proofreading is the final step. Some reporters request proofreading with audio as necessary and some request it with audio line by line. Also, since scoping is more time consuming, the page rate is higher than with proofreading.

If you have any further questions, you can e-mail me at arichardson1976@aol.com

Good luck!
HI April. Are you able to do some scoping for me today and tomorrow?

Yvonne Fennelly yfenn@pacbell.net.

Where are you located?
I am located on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Although, today and tomorrow I will be tied up with another client's work. Sorry! Please keep me in mind for future scoping. Thanks!
I will definitely keep you in mind. I like the fact that you used to be a reporter. How much do you charge?

y.
I, too, am a retired court reporter with 12 years' experience reporting, in addition to 5 years' scoping and proofreading experience. I have been homeschooling my children for 13 years and occasionally proofreading for authors going to print with their books. I would love the opportunity to help someone with their overflow to get back into the world of court reporting. If you're interested, please contact me and let me know what investment for software and/or equipment I would need. I welcome all input. Thank you, Colleen
well, if you have the CaseCatalyst software, you can help me out!!
