Hi everyone. I haven't been on CSr nation for months! Just had my first baby and scrambling to take the Nevada Exam May 9. Anyway, can anyone walk me through how to install my security key on my new laptop that has Vista? I can't figure it out anywhere and neither can my BFF who is a stenograph independent trainer and reporter, but she doesn't have vista and I'd REALLy like to avoid the $60 fee for a helpdesk call as my software free help has expired. Thanks anyone!!

Once you use a suggested stroke from it, it automatically defines it in that job, thus making an entry go to the job dictionary. These are NOT put in your personal dictionary. :)

Okay, I did find it in the next day's dictionary, but I swear I didn't define it!

Therein lies my confusion. Don't I have to define 'em at least once? And they're not in that job dictionary.

When you use Brief It, those briefs that you use go into your job dictionary. They are not carried over to other jobs, unless when you go to start a new job, you select the job dictionary for the previous job where you used Brief It. If you find briefs you want to use on a consistent basis, copy them over to your personal dictionary from that day's job dictionary. Or just plain enter them in your personal dictionary using the insert, CRTL-I. :) HTH!

I need some explanation on the Brief It feature in Catalyst. I did a long job last week, the words "municipal court" kept coming up, so I decided to brief M*K for it. Well, when I did, it translated the very first time. I've checked all my dictionaries and it's not there. Brief It is checked in options. Someone please explain this to my simple mind. This has happened a lot since the first of the year! I was blaming some of it on my scopist, now I think I need to apologize to her!

Does anyone have an include file for the caption pages? I've just upgraded from version 4 to version 10 and my include files aren't working with the fill-in fields.

Actually, Wendy, you can create macros to replace your EZ Keys/Spacebar commands. Macros won't interfere with the User Account Control in Vista which looks at EZ Keys as a keystroke recorder which is what hackers use to break into computers. On the Version 9 CD there are what's called Exceptional Extras and there is an Exceptional Extras Keyboard Map which has a whole bunch of the most commonly used macros submitted by reporters and trainers to Stenograph. You can break that EZ Keys habit, I know you can.

If you want, I have a handout on transitioning from EZ Keys to Macros. Just send me an e-mail addresss and I'll send it to you.

I'm holding onto them for dear life!!! I'll be upgrading my CC this week from Version 4!!! Hey, it works just fine for me! But they do have some pretty nifty upgrades, so I'm taking the plunge.

Now, I was told if I get a laptop with XP on it, I can still use my spacebar commands with version 9. True???

The alternative is get Vista and use keyboard maps, so I'll still use my spacebar commands but just without holding the spacebar down. Then when I want to type, I press back slash, start typing, then press back slash again and go back to my non-spacebar spacebar commands. True???
