Realtime Reporters

A discusssion forum for realtime reporters and those striving for realtime
  • Mary Ann Taylor

    Hey Everyone,
So, for starters, I do not do realtime currently. Only for myself. But I would be interested in, I guess, hearing about other court reporters' realtime challenges, issues, successes, etc.
At my school, realtime was not a huge focus. So, when I graduated, I was not sure what to add to my dictionary, what to leave out. Fortunately they gave me a great dictionary to begin with, but I'm just now really starting to add more and more technical terms.
But I still have questions. Like today I posted a blog about whether to cap common brand names.
So, any guidance, questions, or terms, feel free to post about.

What a great idea, Mary Ann!

Oh, and also I forgot to mention there's going to be a realtime specific workshop in LA at NCRA's Regional Conference. Deadline to register is June 1st. The actual workshop is June 26 through 27.

    Thanks! :)
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

It has been two years since I got my CRR, and it has been four days since I got my new Stenocast X7 working properly with Bridge and Eclipse, thanks to a little help from Eclipse support.

I have made a heavy investment in my future realtime career, even though I don't have a single realtime client, and depo work has been slow. I am taking the opportunity while things are slow to learn all I can about realtime. I am looking forward to getting lots more info from this site. Thanks, Mary Ann!

Mary Ann, I started doing realtime in 1989, and I literally cornered the found of our State Bar's technology and told him he was hooking up at the next deposition we did together! He did and loved it!

So hang in there! You're doing the right thing.

I agree totally with Jeanese, define it all.

My way of thinking is that if I wrote it once I'll probably write it again - so put it in the dictionary :)
  • Kyung

You can just buy the Stenocast stuff outright, you don't have to pay a subscription fee. That's just for people who may not have enough money to buy it upfront.

And lucky you. Here is the link for software, a discussion I started in the name that website group. It has a couple of different viewers.

Okay what is wrong with me.....for some reason I can not find a sign up button or become a member for this site. I know it has to be here somewhere but the big question is where!?!?!?! lol. Help Please!

Do anyone know how to practice with a metromone?
  • Rebecca Callow

My understanding of metronome practice is to look at a sheet of finger combinations, like SPR, STR SFR, SKR, et cetera, and as the metronome ticks, you follow the letter combos on the page and hit one combo for each tick. Then you read it back and when you have it perfectly, you speed up the metronome.

I have tried this and it didn't help me. Is someone recommending this for you, or are you just curious?
  • Saniya C. Youngblood

Hi, Rebecca, that sounds good I am going to try that. I am really trying to get into a good rythym. I am in the 200 hundred speed class, and I think if I get into a good rythym I will pass the rest of my tests. Thank You.
