    P.S. I think it's time for a drink....

    Hi Gwen -

I have been using the wireless bluetooth with my Diamante and have not had any problems.  As far as the password, I remember getting it off my Diamante -- select "More", then "Wireless", then "Bluetooth", and your passkey will display.  I can't remember if there is more to it, but maybe that will help :)

  • Gwen Brass

It's not the password they're asking for.  I can't even get to that screen.  They say the license is expired and they want the serial number from the little piece that sticks in the laptop.  It doesn't follow the instructions I got at all.   I'll  just call Steno. in the morning and see what's up.

Good to know you haven't had any problems.  It'll be nice not to have that cable in the way.  The less cords the better!

  • Gwen Brass

It turns out that since I bought it so long ago, the version I had was outdated and could not be loaded on anymore.  So I went onto the Stenograph website and dl'd the latest update and now it's up and running smoothly.

I'm new to reporting in Washington and new to Case Catalyst.  I'm getting ready to set up my auto include pages.  I'm wondering one, if there's an exact format dictated by the State of Wash that we have to use?  And two, if someone on CC could email me a sample of their pages so I'd have something to start with.  Thanks.

Yvette, You can do this a variety of ways.  You can set something up in EZ Text which you will find inside of your "System Files" Folder.

If you are just trying to get a job out quickly, you can simply chose something that's not going to come up in the transcript like "@" and E define it as that speaker.

  • Joyce Preusser

Yvette, did you save it after you made the entry?  If you see an  *  on your EZ Text tab, it has not been saved.  Just right click  on the tab and select save.
  • Janiece Young

Yvette, you need to hit the F4 key.

    F4, then Shift #2.

  • Janiece Young

I think what you're using is the EZ speakers.  That is different that EZ text.
  • Janiece Young

I have speakers and all kinds of things in there.  I have (sic) and (ph) and (indicating), whatever you use a lot, that's the place to use it and then you can use in from witness to witness to witness......
  • Joyce Preusser

I don't have to use F4 first with EZ Text...now I'm confused!  I'll just hit 9, for example, if I want to enter whatever I've got listed there.  More than one way to access that, maybe?
  • Rosalie DeLeonardis

Highlight the name to do a global replace, then hit control F9, and it will bring up the characters that you need.

  • Laurie Blacksher

    Hey, Angela,

The way I do it is probably wrong but here goes:

I type the word without accent.  Then highlight and J-define.  As you're typing in the next text, before you type the letter you want the accent mark over, hit control + F9 and it brings up the "insert character" screen.  Just pick which one you want and then continue typing the word.  Hope that helps.  Someone probably has a better way, but that's how I do it.

  • Marianne Nee

I used to use the special characters but soon realized they don't print correctly. Also they don't lend themselves to minis. I would be very careful about using them.

There was a discussion not too long ago about auto indexing and a trainer whom someone recommended to get it set up.  I was soooooo busy at the time, I didn't write down the info.  I am now ready to get that started, but need the referral again.  PLEASE someone reply with a trainer referral to get me set up with the indexing....so tired to doing it the old fashioned way!  THANKS SOOOO much!!!

  • Nicki Hildebrand

    Hi, Dawn.

Sonya Wilcox is one that I would definitely recommend.  You can find her on facebook.  She has a page there, too.  Case CATalyst Reporters and Users.  Good luck!

  • Rosalie DeLeonardis

Have you printed it out and seen it's not coming out, or is it just not showing up in your view?  I know when I just hit the page view (two to a paage) I can never see it, but when I print it's always there.

  • Janiece Young

Yvette, you can call Stenograph and they will help you redo that macro.

  • Janiece Young

Yes, that's what I do.  I can't remember how to do it b/c I do it so rarely.  Maybe there is someone on this site that can help you if you want to get it done before Monday when they open.

I assume you are under support so it will not cost you anything extra.  :-)

  • Jill Moyle

I hope this is okay to put here, but if you are on facebook, there is an awesome fb page called CaseCatalyst Reporters and Users where CC trainers and users answer a lot of really technical questions.

  • Janiece Young

Yvette, you probably know this, but if you have your customer ID number and punch that in when they prompt you, you will get in a lot sooner.  I keep that number in a file on my computer so I always have access to it along w/ their 800 number.

  • Dawn Davila

What would you like to see added to CaseCatalyst?  I am currently at the STAR convention in Las Vegas with the software developer right here!  Send me your suggestions - I have his ear!!!!

  • Dawn Davila

FYI - CaseCatalyst Version 14 will NOT support security device.  If you do not have e-key, might want to think about getting it soon.

  • RealTime Elite

...and while we are at it a CaseViewNet app for iPads and Android Tablets.

    ( just saying :-) )

  • Dawn Davila

Scoping on iPad or tablet - they said that you can load Case & edit on it if it supports Windows.

iPad app - They are currently running CVN app on iPad.  It is in development.  They have one here running in demo.  The app for the attorneys will be FREE.  Takes about 15 seconds to connect - super easy.

  • Dawn Davila

There was a question about rapid refresh when working with LiveNote.  They are in "talks" with LiveNote, but nothing finalized yet.

  • Jill Moyle

How about the ability to import the videographer's digital audio and, even though it won't be sinked, have controls to be able to listen to it, rewind, fast-forward, like a transcriber.

  • RealTime Elite

Jill you can already do that just needs to be the appropriate file type and size and associate the new audio to the transcript.

  • Jill Moyle

Oops,  I  misspelled "synch"!  Crud!  Anyway, I'm talking about when it doesn't have time stamps.  It would just be nice to have a built-in digital transcriber because the way I have to do it now is tab back and forth between the transcriber and CC.  Am I making any sense?  I'm sorry, I'm really not very technical.

  • Janiece Young

Yes, you are making sense.  I understood what you said.  I purchased a marantz PMD 630.  It has timestamps and you can do what you said, synch it w/ your text.  There will be drift and it will not be like getting it from your computer.

Why is your audio from your computer not working?  I'm sorry, I missed that piece.

  • RealTime Elite

time stamps are there they are just hidden/suppresse in the page layout. If you use audiosync, it is the instance where you don't have audio markers that make it difficult.

  • Jill Moyle

When I said time stamps, I thought the videographer's audio had to have time stamps too in order to be able to associate it with your transcript and use it??  Oh, gosh, I wish I knew how to explain this.  My audiosynch works just fine.  It's just that many times the videographer's audio is better and I want to use his and usually his audio is split into several files, so I use the digital transcriber I downloaded.  It's a big pain though because I have to tab back and forth between CC and the transcriber.  I'm just saying it would be nice if CC incorporated a digital transcriber for those times when you want to use the videographer's audio and it won't synch up.

Am I the only one who uses the videographer's digital audio like this?  How do other's do it?

  • Janiece Young

Jill, you can have the videographer pipe his audio into your computer.  I will caution you that sometimes this does not work and then you end up w/ no audio.  I have also seen reporters post that by doing that it blew out their audio and they had to replace their computers.  Those problems are rare but they do happen.

What I do is edit the job w/ my audio from my computer.  Then I go back through w/t audio from the videographer.  You can go back through w/ the videographer's audio at a fast speed so it doesn't take that long.

  • Janiece Young

Jill, if you have the videographer pipe his audio into your computer at the depo it will have timestamps just like if you had used your mic to supply audio on a normal, non-video depo.

  • Jill Moyle

Thanks, Janiece and Joseph for your replies.  Janiece, when you go back and edit with the videographer's audio, is it cassette tapes or digital audio?

  • Janiece Young

Usually I am going w/t digital files.  When I have digital files I set up my second computer and play the files back on it using Windows Media Player.

When I have cassette tapes I have the old-fashioned tape transcriber that has a pedal so I don't have to take my hands off the keyboard.  It is becoming rare that videographers supply me w/ tapes.  I was considering selling the transcriber but as of yet I still have it.

  • Jill Moyle

Which is a big pain, right?  Surely there's a way to make it so you could import your audio and, even though it's not synched, be able to rewind, fast-forward, move the curser to the spot on the tape you want to listen to?

  • Janiece Young

It is a big, huge pain.  That's one of the reasons I don't like doing videotape depositions.

The only way I know of is to pipe in the videographer's audio at the time of the depo. Then you will have what you desire, as long as nothing goes wrong.

  • Jill Moyle

Dawn had asked for suggestions, so that's why I brought it up.  Dread the long, technical video depos because of the whole audio issue and what a time-sucker it is.  Help us out, CC! (Maybe I'll post about this on the cc users fb site and see if they have any good answers.)

  • Janiece Young

Plz let me know.  I have a video on Monday.

  • Dawn Davila

Janiece - There is a program I received when I bought my digital recorder about 5 years ago that you can import audio files into and play back using a foot pedal (plugged into a USB on your laptop) just like a regular tape transcriber.  I loved it!  You can import the audio from a CD or the audio wave file directly from the videographer.  I keep it on my working laptop where I have my Case, so it goes with me wherever I go, and I can work on it whenever I need to.  I am sure you can purchase on its own.  It is called Express Scribe.  I purchased it from Martel in Anaheim Hills, CA

  • Janiece Young

    Thanks, Dawn, that's very helpful.

    Janiece

  • RealTime Elite

I am a videographer and I will rip the audio from my dvds and create a wav file for her with the same specs as her original wav file and I will drop it in the same place and associate the new file with the transcript then it is a matter of adjusting the timing... I now just plug her into my mixer with a cable and she has my audio from the start.

but, yes it would be nice if you could use audiosync like a transciber and just point the audio file to the beginning of the transcript and use the controls within CC

  • Janiece Young

Joseph, I worked w/ a videographer who did not make me an audio.  I had to get his audio from a set of DVDs he made for me.  I had to watch the audio.  It was very hard and time consuming because you basically had to start from the beginning and couldn't go to a specific spot.  How hard is it to rip the video from the DVDs?

  • RealTime Elite

it is a process not hard just time consuming. I have my software but i will see what I can find to give you a solution. (where are you located?)... you could always ask the videographer to provide just the audio files on cd or dvd.

  • Janiece Young

Well, the job is done.  I'm in KC.  Thank you for the offer.  This is the first time I have run into this problem.  I had to have the videographer audio b/c they fought the whole time.

  • Janiece Young

I asked for him to supply me w/t the audio files on CD but I got the impression he didn't know how to do that.

  • Jill Moyle

Just wanted to follow up and say I downloaded Express Scribe since I got a new laptop and am thrilled.  After a few tweaks, it is about as good as I could ask for without being audiosynch.  Thanks for the suggestions.

  • Jill Moyle

When you're in edit, just go into tools, audio, associate audio.  It will ask you if you're sure and say yes and then pick the audio you want to associate.

  • Janiece Young

I just loaded on CC 13.  I am embarrassed to say I had been using 9 up to now.  Don't know why I did update my versions.  Anyway, any cool updates or features that you like in 13?
