Hey, all you wonderful vegans out there, let's unite. This group is just a forum for recipes, questions, stories and favorite restaurants in your area or not. Happy eating (and writing too)!
  • Bece Kidder

    Hello, ya'll.

I wanted to get this group going, but I don't have a lot to add at the moment.

I do want to say that my favorite pizza place in Portland, Oregon is Dove Vivi. So good. They have two vegan options and they make their crust with cornmeal. Delicious.
  • Bece Kidder

So I actually put a delicious recipe up in the depo snacks discussion if anyone wants to check it out.
  • Saniya C. Youngblood

Hello Bece, excellent idea for a club. My family and I been eating all organic food for two years and decided to become vegan in January. We are 95% vegan because we use organic cheese to make pizza. we prefer using rice cheese, but we found out the cheese we purchase has yeast extract in it, which is also MSG. I also enjoy preparing raw food dishes for my family.
  • Bece Kidder

Hey, Saniya, that's great. I have been vegan for ten years, but I have to admit that I still eat honey, which some vegans frown upon. I guess I should call myself a beegan. LOL
But I became a vegan for health reasons and honey is very good for you, just like you choose to eat organic cheese because it may be healthier than the rice version.

I have to tell you, though, I make a pizza that has an olive oil and garlic base instead of pizza sauce that I completely cover with spinach, a healthy amount, and lot's of veggies like yellow squash, red pepper, and fresh raw tomatoes after it's cooked. Oh, my, it is soooo good. You don't even miss the cheese.
  • Saniya C. Youngblood

That sounds like a very good pizza, I should try to make that. You don't always need cheese I see. And thats right I do eat raw honey because it is good for you .
  • Saniya C. Youngblood

Everyone have a good night, I'll talk tomorrow.
  • Saniya C. Youngblood

Hello everyone, I just want to give a list of excellent websites that I myself go on to educate me on becoming a healthier vegan.
You will love every last one of them!
  • Bece Kidder

Thanks for list, Saniya. I will check them out.
  • Saniya C. Youngblood

Hi. Bece, did you look over the websites?
  • Bece Kidder

The websites are great, very informative. I really liked the naturalnews.com and renegadehealth.com I really like reading about natural foods that can cure the body. It does seem silly to me that people are taking all sorts of weird man-made pills when everything you need is out there is nature. It's a cultural brainwashing, I believe.

    Anyway, Have a great weekend.
  • Saniya C. Youngblood

I have natural news set up tb the first thing I see when I log onto the internet. I read it everyday. The renegadehealth show will show you how to make all sorts of raw dishes, that is where I learned how to make the cauliflour popcorn. Gary null, a very smart man has the progressive radio he post on his site that talks about all sorts of informative health issues. Wlde eye cinema has a lot of good documentaries about health, enviornment and Government. I love them all, I enjoy practicing to them.
And that is so true eveything you need is in nature.
  • Bece Kidder

Wow. That's great. I love knowing more about the foods that I put into my body, too. That's a great idea for practicing your writing. I think I will try that.

I just went to Portobello's Vegan Trattoria here in Portland. It is so good. All of their food is organic and local and all of their dishes are vegan. They have delicious deserts, too. If you get down to Portland you should definitely check it out.

    See ya.
  • Saniya C. Youngblood

Is Trattoria a vegan restuarant? We don't have many of those here on Long Island.
  • Bece Kidder

Oh, for some reason I thought you lived in Seattle. No, it's a specific restaurant in Portland. I thought you lived closer and the possibility of trying it out would have been greater, but if you ever get to Portland, it's good.
  • Saniya C. Youngblood

Thats Okay. Maybe one day when I finish school I can visit Seattle to try the food at Trattoria.
Bece, I see you like the Magnum Steno. How do I connect with Marks practices? I need all the help I can get to pass my last nine remaining test.
  • Saniya C. Youngblood

Do any body use a dehydrater to make raw dishes and have any good dishes to prepare. I myself like to make raw spinach lasagna.
  • Bece Kidder

I only use the dehydrator to dehydrate an overabundance of fruit.

I would love to hear about your lasagna.
  • Saniya C. Youngblood

To make spinach lasagna you need a layer of raw spinach leaves, blended 3 whole tomatoes with1 cup of soaked dry tomatoes and 1Tbls of olive oil. Layer the sauce on top. Then top everything of with blended 1 cup of pinenuts with 2garlic to make the cheese to go on top. Leave in dehydrator for 1 hour. It is so, so good.
  • Bece Kidder

    That sounds great.

Hey, do you know of some good ways to use kelp? I know it is really healthy for you, but I am not a huge fan of the flavor.

    Anyway, just wondering. :)
  • Saniya C. Youngblood

Bece, you can add kelp to a smoothy. I make one every morning. I use 2 cups of soymilk for the base. Then I add Green Vibrance powder, lettuce, 1 carrot, 1 banana, 1 bag of frozen strawberries, coconut oil, then blend. I use the Vita-mix. When I buy kelp I would add it to my smoothy.
  • Bece Kidder

    Thanks for the tip.
  • Bece Kidder

I made a delicious vegan huckleberry pie from the huckleberries I picked a few weeks ago in the mountains of Washington. It was yummy.

What all has everyone been making?
  • Bece Kidder

Here's a link to my favorite vegan truffles:

    http://www.missionarychocolates.com/

You can buy them online, but I go to the farmer's market every Thursday that is by my house to buy at least one of these babies. They are so good. The meyer lemon truffle is my favorite.
  • Saniya C. Youngblood

Thank you, for the websight I will check it out.
  • Saniya C. Youngblood

Does anybbody use spirulina in their food? It is an excellent superfood, I sprinkle it on my homemade pizza. It tast like spinach. I also put in my smoothies.
  • Bece Kidder

I have not used it in food.

    Where do you find it?
  • Saniya C. Youngblood

You can find it at your local vitamin store or Whole Foods store.
  • Bece Kidder

Great. I love spinach so that sounds delicious and healthy.
  • Bece Kidder

This website had some delicious vegan recipes among others and great photos of the dishes.

  • Saniya C. Youngblood

Thank you for the recipes, I am alwayas looking for some good vegan dishes to make.
  • sonja m. reed

Hi, all: If you all knew me, you'd know from first glance that I'm not vegan; however, my youngest daughter is vegetarian and is thinking of going vegan. I haven't quite cut out meat yet, but I'm working on it. Anyhow, I'm always looking for recipes so I can expand in my culinary skills and speed up my journey to becoming meatless!
  • Saniya C. Youngblood

Hi, I use a lot of organic soy to take the place of meat. I use textured soy to make sloppy joe, chilli, hamburgers etc. I use fakin bacon to make BLT's, you can by these products at the wholefoods store. I also use tofurky to make coldcut sandwhiches. It is very important to make sure the soy is organic or non GMO. November will be a year that my family became Vegan. We enjoy this lifestyle, we do not miss meat. We been eating all organic food for about three years now.
  • Saniya C. Youngblood

That is great! You are helping protect the animals and heal the earth.
  • Bece Kidder

    Congrats Cindy!

Yeah this October was my 11th anniversary being Vegan.

I need to start having a vegan potluck to celebrate. Maybe next year.

I hope everyone is keeping warm.

One way to do it is get the unsweetened baking cocoa from Trader Joe's, put a spoonful of that into a mug with hot water, add some maple syrup and a little bit of cinnamon, maybe some cayenne and some sort of milk alternative. I like almond milk. This is guaranteed to warm you up in a second.

  • Saniya C. Youngblood

Do you use Agave nectar in your cocoa? I also add some ricemellow, it is marshmellow made from rice.
  • Bece Kidder

I have used agave nectar in the past, but I use it up so fast I mostly use maple syrup. I think I will go out and buy some agave in the near future, though. Thanks for the reminder.

Okay, where do you get the ricemellow. That sounds awesome!
  • Saniya C. Youngblood

I buy the ricemellow from The Wholefoods Store. They may sell it at Trader Joes also.
  • Saniya C. Youngblood

Have you checked out natural news.com, Mike Adams has been posting some very interesting articles.
  • Bece Kidder

I forgot about this group :(  I will post a new recipe soon!

  • Bece Kidder

Hey, if you are in Portland, Oregon, there are a couple of wonderful restaurants you should know about.  One is Harlow, super delicious, smoothies, juices, bowls and more.  Here's their website:  http://www.harlowpdx.com/

There's also Canteen, which serves similar cuisine, also super delicious!  Here's their website:  http://canteenpdx.com/

Too bad there are not more vegans in this group.  I'd love to learn more about becoming vegan.  I eat fish now but no beef or turkey, chicken, etc.  I do eat cheese but no milk.  Drink almond milk instead.  Been about four months now.
