A group for Diamante users

I think I am going to get the Diamante.  So.....I don't have it yet...but I still want to join your group so you can tell me how GREAT it is!!
  • Kelli Combs

I really like the Diamante, but it still stacks.  Also, it splits my strokes (one stroke) into three lines.  Pretty frustrating.  If I down the anti-stacking feature, it stacks more.

I wish I could just have a machine that does not stack/split, period.  Overall, though, out of all the machines I have had, I like it the best.

  • Karen Goldenberg

    Kelli,

I haven't had one bit of trouble with my Diamante.  Perhaps, you have a "lemon."   I'd ask Stenograph to exchange it for you, not to fix yours, but to get a "new" one.   For the price we pay, you should have one that works properly.

I think everyone knows how difficult Stenograph is to work with; zero customer service.  I doubt they would work with me.  I guess I could ask, though.  Cant hurt.

  • Karen Goldenberg

    Kelli,

I'm sorry.   But I don't agree with "everyone knows."   I've been almost 100% satisfied with my relationship with Stenograph.   I've owned stenograph writers since I began as a CR student.

Please drop a note to Dawn at Customer Service.   Or drop a private email to Cindi Hartman (Stenograph Angel).   They will probably direct you to a caring, helping Stenograph customer rep, i.e., if you feel that your local rep is not helping you.

Anyone have a problem with the computer/Eclipse not recognizing the com port for the Diamante?  I guess with Eclipse, even though I use a USB cable to connect, it still is recognized through the com port.  My computer registered the Diamante on Com port 7.  Now when I'm connected, it's not showing up as being there.  This worked fine for two days then suddenly stopped working and I can't get it back.  Anyone else have a problem like that?

  • Judy

I'm considering buying a Diamante.  I have two questions:

    1) Is Stenograph still the only company that is permitted to repair them, or have they now trained other places to repair them?

    2) How do you attach a mini keyboard to the writer (if you even can)?

  • Delicia Struss

Judy, as far as I know, Stenograph is still the only one.  I have a tray and mini keyboard I can sell you a little cheaper than Stenographs.  I bought it and never used it.  If you'd like to make a deal, e-mail me.  :)

  • Delicia Struss

For the grammar police -- oops.  Stenograph's.  He he.

  • Judy

Delicia, that's what I thought about the repairs.  Might be a deal-breaker for me.  I'd much rather be able to drop it off and pick it up instead of shipping it.

  • Delicia Struss

Yep, same here.  But so far so good with mine.  I've had it a year and a half so far, I think.

  • Gwen Brass

Kelli, mine does the stacking and splitting thing too. I thought it was me!  I had some stacking on my old machine but never the splitting.  If there is some way to fix that, I'd love to know.

    What is a mini keyboard?

  • Delicia Struss

Gwen, the mini keyboard sits on the tray on top of the Diamante.

  • Gwen Brass

    Delicia, and then does what?

  • Delicia Struss

Just acts as a regular keyboard so you don't have to stretch to a keyboard on the table. I didn't like the tray. It didn't seem to sit comfortably on the Diamante and I was afraid it would scratch it, but I've heard some rave about it.

  • Wynne A. Pauly

Is there a way to pause the audio on the Diamante (like on breaks, recess, etc.)?  The Passport has a way to do that.  Anyone know if the Diamante does?

  • Montrell Vann, RMR, RDR, CRR

Yes, you can pause the audio on the Diamante. In the machine setup you can select the time you wish for the machine to stop recording audio after a specified time of inactivity or not writing on the machine. The audio will pause automatically.

  • Wynne A. Pauly

Thank you, Montrell.....I found that section but don't quite understand.  It says Auto Pause Resume.  How can it be for pause and resume?  Don't get it.

  • Wynne A. Pauly

I have mine set to 5 seconds, but in court yesterday when i came back from recess it was still recording.

  • Montrell Vann, RMR, RDR, CRR

At the time you've specified in your audio pause setting, it will automatically pause after that time lapse of inactivity. Once you touch your Diamante keyboard again, it automatically begins recording.

  • Wynne A. Pauly

    A-ha!  Thanks!

  • Montrell Vann, RMR, RDR, CRR

That's interesting it was still recording when you came back from the recess unless somehow your machine was accidentally touched or bumped. Maybe do another test to see if it stops recording after that time of inactivity you've specified and see what happens.

  • Wynne A. Pauly

I thought so anyway....now that I know how it's supposed to work, I'll watch for it.

  • Wynne A. Pauly

I have a lot of splitting.  Anyone know which knob I should adjust and in which direction?

  • Janet Cooper Haas

Wynne, I had the same problem, and I called Stenograph directly. It was five minutes of my time, and their suggestions did the trick. No more splitting for this chica! I LOVE my Diamante!

  • Wynne A. Pauly

    Anybody else?

  • Wynne A. Pauly

Montrell, following up on the recording thing, I've verified that the writer is continuing to record during lunch break.  I have it set to stop in 10 minutes with no keys being hit, and it's been 45 minutes and it's recording.

    Any ideas?

  • Montrell Vann, RMR, RDR, CRR

Sounds like something Stenograph would have to handle. What are you seeing on the Diamante display screen that indicates it's still recording?

  • Wynne A. Pauly

The black horizontal bar at the top has a green area ebbing and flowing.

    Have you ever had splitting?

  • Montrell Vann, RMR, RDR, CRR

The black horizontal bar will continue to display that even though the audio recording has paused. The indication that the recording has paused is directly to the left of the horizontal bar. When the recording has paused, the display transitions from a microphone symbol to a pause symbol. When it begins recording again, the pause symbol transitions to the microphone symbol.

  • Montrell Vann, RMR, RDR, CRR

I don't know what you mean by splitting. Please clarify.

  • Wynne A. Pauly

Splitting is the opposite of stacking. Instead of two three strokes appearing one line, it's a one stroke work showing as two or three strokes.....lots of them....not just once in awhile.

  • Wynne A. Pauly

Oh, okay.....I'll look for the microphone button and then see if I can recognize the pause button.

  • Montrell Vann, RMR, RDR, CRR

Oh, wow. Okay. I've never heard of splitting and never had that problem on the Diamante. I would say that's an issue definitely for Stenograph technical support.

  • Montrell Vann, RMR, RDR, CRR

Yes, you should definitely see the microphone and pause icons. I just did a test on my Diamante to make sure. Those icons appear directly to the left of the black horizontal bar you were referring to earlier.

  • Wynne A. Pauly

    Thank you, Montrell.

  • Wynne A. Pauly

    Thanks again.

  • Wynne A. Pauly

Has anyone been able to get the audio on the Diamante to sync with an Eclipse text file?

  • Wynne A. Pauly

Using the Diamante with Eclipse Version 5.0.0.27 and feeding with cable to my laptop.  While I have my Eclipse job open, if I go to the settings on the Diamante to change the stacking/splitting section or to adjust an individual key, it stops the feed to my laptop.  Anyone having that problem?

  • Theresa Silva

    Hello Everyone,

I have been interested in using the  Diamante's bluetooth feature that is supposed to prevent us from using the USB cable to feed data from the machine to our laptops but have been weary to try it out on an actual depo.  Is anyone using this feature, and if so, is it reliable?

  • Ana Maria Gallegos

    Hi Theresa,

I just converted my Diamante to wireless.  I connected through TP Link, available at Stenograph.  I personally began having problems with wireless.  But I also use the TP Link to connect to my iPads for realtime.  Maybe it's just too much.  I switched back to connecting my Diamante with the USB cable and continue to use TP Link with my iPads.  You always have the option to switch back to cable, which is nice.  I feel more secure knowing I have the wireless, if needed.

    Good luck!

    Ana

My Diamante audio is not recording.  The settings are set for "on" but the little wave bar does not move.  Anybody have this happen to them?

  • Montrell Vann, RMR, RDR, CRR

Have you checked the amount of memory available on your SD card? If there is not an adequate amount of memory available, the audio will not record.

  • Wynne A. Pauly

Thank you, Montrell!  Didn't think of that!

  • Janiece Young

I just bought a Diamante.  What do I need to know to use it?  How do I transfer my dictionary?
