    Hello,
It is nice to meet everyone. I am one of those older students, starting a new career so to speak. I was attending a brick and mortar school, and I got so tired of the rules constantly changing and the royal run around and teachers changing like they were in a revolving door; I decided to change to SimplySteno which I will begin on the 31st of December. A new start for a new year.
I have 5 daughtersm with the last one living with me, and heading to college next fall. I am divorced and loving it.
  • Sue @ The Brief Zone

    Great Pic !
  • Kar

Jayne - Did you get a response on your question on perfect paper tape notes? I'm a student and would love to know what you find out about practicing. Hope to hear from you soon.
  • Kar

Jayne, Did you e-mail me yesterday? Then I left you my phone number this morning? I tried to get into my hotmail account, but it must be very busy. I can't get in. ):
  • Kar

Jayne, did you get my e-mail? I gave you my phone number if you wanted to chat sometime. Let's start the CR buddy practice going - definitely!
  • Natalie Mikolajczak

    Hi Jayne,
I started with SimplySteno on Dec. 31st too! My school closed on me a month after I finished theory. They took a lot of money from me.
Anyway, I am liking the SimplySteno program and am glad I made the change. Going to school at home has been a nice change especially on these sub-zero days.
  • Debi LaGamba

Hey, Jayne, long time no hear! Are you going to Harrisburg this year? Hopefully we won't get a blizzard this time! Would love to see you!

I'll be glad to help, if I can.

When you say it comes up as a conflict, does it actually come up as a conflict where it's in brackets and you choose either the first or second option?
  • Michele Kohar

    Hi Jayne,
It is nice to meet somebody from Pittsburghm nt too many of us here. How much longer in school? I know that;s a tough question, but make sure you keep on going!
  • Jean-Marie A. Browne

    Hi Jayne,

Nice meeting you too and I love this website too. Actually I graduated Cum Laude in 2005 as an official court reporter, but I have been proofreading for almost 24 years for government. Prior to that, I have worked as court transcriptionist, secretary, executive officer. So I have learnt a lot and am still learning, and I'm always browsing the internet for online courses.

    Have a great weekend
    Jean-Marie
  • Stephanie

    Hi :)

  • Jean-Marie A. Browne

Jayne, I will be gald to help anytime.
  • Maria Mhoon

    Thanks!
  • Dale

    Hi Jayne!
Hey, where did you live in the lower peninsula? My distant relatives (four generations ago) were in the Leelanau Peninsula, near TRaverse City, and my daddy grew us up here in the Detroit area.. Motown ROCKS!
Hey, how about those Red Wings? We are hoping for good things!
Your picture cracks me up. I was thinking of putting something like that up, but decided to put m y sunburned face on here after a canoe trip with my son!
take care and God bless you

  • Kim Gibney

Hey Jayne, So nice to hear from you. Life is great since PCRA and yes, I did go to the RPR. I only needed to pass the Lit and 2 Voice. I haven't gotten the scores, but I feel sure that I passed the Lit. I will be very shocked and disappointed if I didn't. The 2 voice, I didn't even transcribe. My mentor told me later that I should have because you just never know. So, I'll know that for next time. I've been doing some interning at a freelance firm here in Allentown and loving it. Hey, I'm just noticing that you use digitalcat. Tell me how you like it. I have the student version for Eclipse and I'm just kind of shopping around. With the online program I'm having to learn the CAT software on my own, as you know, and it's killing me. I need something simple and would also like for it to be a little more economical. LOL
The WKT is the NCRA's written knowledge test. It covers the academics and all. Talk to you soon!
  • Kim Gibney

For the WKT I used the vocab and English from Simply Steno and their Medical and Legal Terminology. Then I ordered the RPR Practice Questions from NCRA. Let me tell you, focus on puntucation and word usage. NCRA also follows the rules from the Greg's Manual (I can't think of the exact name of it). A 75% passes. There was a couple of computer questions. I would say 25% of the questions were legal and medical terminology. And the other 75 was punctuation and usage and spelling. It's great now, because you can take it every two months (I believe) and usually in your own town. Where are you from again?
I love interning. I am so excited. I'm really considering going with Digitalcat for the main reason that there is no yearly charge for support. (I hope I'm not wrong on that) :)
You are busy working on your csrnation site, I see. Talk to you soon!
  • Jeannie Wright

Hi, Jane! Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner - I am an on-line CRID student and had to get my lesson in. I work full-time as a paralegal for a judge and then I am a full-time online student. I love being online, like Melanie (we are in classes together)! I looked at Simply Steno, but my state requires a degree, so I am in school. How is that working out for you? It looks like a great site! How far along are you?
  • Jeannie Wright

Hi Jayne - good that you like on-line, too! It is SO much easier than driving to school and being out of the house! Why do I want to "leave" off working for the judge? Well, actually, I don't, necessarily. However, my judge may retire in a few ye
ars and I . also want the ability to go where I want and work when I want -- I've been tied to a desk for way too many years! What do you plan to do when you graduate?
  • Debra Sozio

Thanks, Jayne. It was so nice of you to welcome me to this site. Is that a picture of you with the shotgun? :-)
  • Brenda Rogers

Hi, Jayne. What I meant about the software is that it's really great to have all these word pieces and the software will build your words for you, but it shouldn't be to the exclusion of having briefs, phrases, and punctuation incorporated into outlines. You have to "teach" your software your strokes.

As Brittany intimated (at least to me), putting in all those variations seems to be discouraged when, if you broke it down to separate strokes, it will translate perfectly the first time.

But that's YOU working for the software, if you see what I mean.

I'm on Eclipse and not DC, but I'm sure the concept (SKEPT) is the same. Feel free to email me if I'm being way too vague here, which I feel I am. :)
  • JiLL

Nice t0 Meet you. WhaT a greaT 0rGanizaTi0n thiS is!
  • Jeannie Wright

Happy Wednesday, Jayne! How's school going today?
  • Jeannie Wright

Jayne, I know what you mean about the kids leaving. I'm divorced and my kids have been home with me year-round for the last 3 years - when my son goes to college (in a year) and my daughter (in 2 years) - I will have empty nest syndrome -- really, really bad -- the only thing you can do is look at it like an opportunity to get all that speed practice that we all need to do so badly. It will help with the blues -- but it is SO hard to get motivated. Wishing you the best today!
  • Wade

Thanks Jane. It's good to be here. I'm still checking it out! Thanks for the note.
  • Wade

I see that you're doing Simply Steno. I am considering that myself since I dropped out of a HORRIFIC school that sucked my soul out of my body. How are you liking it? How does it work? How has your progress been?
  • Annette R.

    Hi, Jayne!

Thank you for the warm welcome. I am currently an online student with Brown College. I'm enrolled in the captioning/CART program. A friend told me about this site today and I've already enjoyed reading the posts.
  • Annette R.

I see that you're a student with Simply Steno. What has your experience with this program been like? Are you enjoying it? What speed level are you in? I sure wish I knew about Simply Steno before I got started ... it might've saved me a lot of time and money ;-))
  • Jean-Marie A. Browne

Jayne, it's going to be sad to see her go as you are accustomed to have her around the house. There comes a time when our children will not always be around us and we have to prepare ourselves for that time. Best of all, she is just a phone call away and I'm sure you guys would be in contact a lot with each other. On the other hand, the experience away from home and getting into more studies is good for her. I'm sure your daughter will visit now and again during college holidays and you will see a lot of independency in her. (dont have time to look up that word :) Think of all the good times you guys spend together. Even though you are going to lonely, you have to shake out yourself and continue with your studies, and remember to practice, practice, practice. Concentrate on your steno studies, soon you will be finished and getting out there in the working field. Also, go out with friends and family and have a good time, but remember to devote most of your time with steno, because from experience, girl, this machine requires a lot of of attention.
If you need help with anything just holla at me, my email is jean4reporting@yahoo.com. Take care.
  • Jackie Huggins

    Hi Jayne,
Thanks for the welcome! I am sure I will enjoy the site it's already been nice to see.

    Have a great day!

  • Jeannie Wright

    Hi, Jayne! How ya doin?!
  • Jeannie Wright

Oh, Jayne, have a great time! I got a Tutto bag at Stenograph - pricey but it works really well and also carries my laptop! Where are you going in California? When I was growing up, my dad was in the space industry and we spent several years in California (Orange County) -- anywhere you go, you will have a nice trip! Are you going to convention?
  • Jeannie Wright

Hi, Jayne! Just wanted to say hello and see how your weekend is going! By the way, in your photos -- which one are you?
  • S. Arielle

LOL LOL they sleep in the mudroom --- but when they are sleeping in the family room, it's so funny, it's an orchestra. lol lol But they are so cute.
  • Michelle Carrillo

Thank you Jane. I like yours too. I am already enjoying the site. I just don't have the time right now to complete my page.

    Oh, I love your pictures.

    Michelle
  • Michelle Carrillo

    Jane,

Yeah, Toledo is cool. I have lived here all my life. What is the people you know here last name. I have been doing legal transcription for eight years now. I worked for six with a forensic psychologist-- I have a Masters in pysch and research. I loved working with him, but I had another baby and wanted to stay home with her. I was doing legal trans for a lady and she introduced me to scoping. I love it. It is so much easier than trans, but I like trans a lot too. What is it you are going to school for, court reporting?

Thanks for messaging me. It made me feel like I belonged. LOL

    Michelle
  • Michelle Carrillo

    Thanks Jayne,

I am sorry that I have been spelling your name wrong, just noticed. I am only using digitalCAT right now too. I just found out that you can lease CaseCATalyst for $175 every three months. I will probably do that after summer.

Thanks for making me a friend. I need some. LOL

    Michelle

thanks Jayne! i'm excited to be a member!
  • stephanie jones

i only just started speeds so i have a long way to go!
  • Mr. G

Hey Jayne! 'Preciate the kind words. Yes, it is nice to meet fellow students. No matter how close you and your friends/family are, no one can understand what a cr student goes through, but another cr student!
  • Trudi O'Brien

Hi Jayne, Thanks for the check. I am on my way home from the NCRA convention which has been a huge motivator. Good luck to you.
    Trudi
  • Bre

Thanks for the welcome. I've been sharing this website with other students too. Together we can do this!!! Good Luck!

  • Ian Dawson

HI Jayne, thanks for the message. Nice to meet a fellow SimplyStenoer :) I love the programme; there are so many tests a week, I don't even dread them now! (Well that's a lie, of course, but I'm getting there...) How are you finding it?
  • Jeannie Wright

Hi, Jayne! How are you and how is Steno going? I'm back in 80/100 and I hope to move forward this semester - maybe if I quite my real job I can do it! LOL! What speed are you working on? Holler back if you get a chance!
  • Jeannie Wright

Hey, guess what? I'm just below you on that board ranking thing! I'm online for a while if you log in!
  • Jeannie Wright

Hey, Jayne! Sorry you had such a bad experience! Allergic to irises! I KNOW you are uncomfortable! Try some aveeno bath stuff - it honestly helps!

Exciting news about your trailer! But I do know how awful it is to lose the hard drive - I bought a vault (I need to look at the brand - it's in the safe deposit) and I back it up once a month - at least I sleep well at night. I didn't spend much for it, but it's all there if there's a problem.

Well, I've got you on my special list - you can pass your 180's - frankly, you've already conquered a huge portion of what you have to do - it will come!

Let me know how you are doing and stay in touch!
