Bring It On -- I think I saw it. Which one is it??

Yes, I'm feeling a lot better -- peppier!

I'm officially floating now and am having so much fun. Think it really is all in the attitude. I am so thankful for my job this week. While I get so close to hanging it up because of a boss that can't see the forest through the trees, the truth is I love my job, and it's a bummer that she gets me in a slump with nonsense that really doesn't/shouldn't affect me.

I think if another court reporter manager in our state heard of the idiotic things she does, they'd all horse laugh. Hearing (praying) she's retiring soon.

Thanks for checking up on me, Jenny.

You've been waay patient with the LS. There is no way I could have been through half of what you've been through.

While I'm pissed that they charged me the $400 restock fee when they knew they were selling me problems (crap) the week they sold it to me, I'm so happy I returned it. I just wasn't up for the battle.

Still looking for the perfect writer. :)

Clay needs one, too. He's on my old Smartwriter, and while it's as accurate as they get, the stroke depth is just way too deep, and he'll be injuring himself way too early on if he doesn't get a writer that takes less effort.

Loved my three-day weekend. Thank you for everything, Martin Luther King.

    Have a terrific week, Jenny!
  • Jason Pardikes

I received both and I will try and get that writer out by Friday. I think I can but if not it will be Monday.

  • Tina Givens

LOL!! I love the little spy. Yes, that looks exactly like me!!
  • Rhoda Collins

I have not received mine yet. SO cool you are going to test it! :)
  • Stacy Tegner

I'm trying to:)) My husband's out of town and we just got back from the kids' sporting activities for the day ~ so now I actually need to sit down and work. After we last chatted via email, I went back to a depo in the same case and had another REALLY long day ~ my workload went from doable to crazy in a flash ~ doesn't that always seem to be the case??
So what's the Grand? I never heard of it. Are you contemplating giving up on the LS? My two (long) jobs were good this week. I didn't notice any dropping. Tran rate was just okay ~ better w/ the No. 5 at 25 but not as good as it used to be! I changed some settings during lunch on the second day and then my tran rate got worse ~ I hate that. I think I might be a glutton for punishment or just super anal, but I feel like I want to make the LS work. I want to try out the Stylus at the DRA convention and just see what it's like.
Okay, to work. Maybe I'll get a chance later to play on the LS, I've been so burnt from my pages this week, I haven't wanted to touch it =)
  • S. Arielle

I haven't really used it yet. It's taking me a while to get used to it
  • Glen Warner

    Hi, Jenny.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you ... but on file storage thing, I usually just use my FTP server (part of the web hosting package from Brinkster) ... or I pick the files I need to backup, and drag them to a blank DVD or DVD/RW.

Otherwise, you might check this thread on Depoman.com! Mike seems to have found something that sounds worth having.

    Have fun .....

    You're welcome!

    Again, sorry for the delay.

I also back up to two seperate external hard drives. I have lots of photos, lol. Then, I switch out w/one at my MIL's to keep one off site.
I am a backup crazy person!

Oh, Jenny ~ I just saw your post on Depoman ~ what do we have to do now??? ~ (pouty face!!) So both my use key retreat rule and detect keys release rule are checked ~ I still don't even really know/understand what they mean.
I'm in the middle of editing a transcript and I'm getting so frustrated. I was getting the E constantly in my notes so I adjusted and now on this job it's NEVER in ~ ARGHH (ok, maybe I'm exaggerating, but that's how it feels) One of these days I'll get my configs right ~ I'm bound and determined to anyway =))
  • Stacy Tegner

Yeah, sorry,Jenny ~ I know it's not the detect ~ it's just that I can't get the setting right w/ it. It's either too sensitive or too high ~ I have that problem with my initial L and final N and their combos ~ one of these days.....

I was just curious if now there's something new we need to worry about setting and fiddling around with with the detect and retreat rules. Like I said, mine are both checked and my retreat rule is set at 25 for every key. I guess it's time to get out the manual and really read it, huh? Maybe after these tripts ~ I just want the LS to be easy and magically work with a great tran rate every time - too much to ask ya think??
  • Tina Givens

Jenny, Thanks for the sunshine! It will be the only kind I get for a while. We had a sprinkling of snow yesterday and more is slated for tonight. They are talking school closings tomorrow. UGH!! Keep your fingers crossed for me. It is so bitterly cold

Have to take my daughter back for another hearing test this afternoon, but after that I hope to test my LS configs. The last job I had both checkmarks checked for the key retreat rule, and I will retran using only the first checkmark and see if there's a difference. This job is not horrible, but the splits and repeats returned, so I have to figured out what setting to change. I'm with Stacy -- so frustrating!!
  • Elise Nock

wow jenny, what a great portrait!!! I will work on that burnout issue. that's why i'm looking into a scopist! you should be proud of me. I like this girl's attitude. She thinks like I do about the double edged sword, using audio. I have to learn to not depend on it so much, and just write, and know that if it's not completely verbatim, it's okay! I don't need to get ever but...well...and then...blah, blah, blah!!! So we'll see how it works. she is a little pricey, but we'll just see. send me the info for the other gal you had, too. okay. see ya!!
ps loved the little kitty you sent me!!!
  • Kelli Combs (admin)

    Hi jenny,
as soon as I get home I will take a look at it and get back to you.
    thanks!
  • Christine Bedard

    Hi there,
So I must say, this has been the slowest January I've ever had. I was just telling my husband that of all the jobs I've done this month, they have all been for attorneys/a firm that I brought to the firm I work for the most. Kinda scary, ya know. So I love your pictures. Looks like you love your cats as much as I love my dogs - & that they have the run of the house as much as my dogs do; i.e. sleeping wherever the heck they want! :0 And your house is Beautiful! My husband would love to live in a place like that. He wants to move to the mountains when we retire. Yeah, like THAT'S gonna happen! We'll be workin' til we die! :(
  • Christine Bedard

Sounds like things are just as slow there. Scare-ry! Oh, & I love the pic w/ you & the Bowl of ice cream! Looks like my husband Every Night! I posted a couple more pics from my Halloween party & son's homecoming. Fun times. I haven't been on this site in awhile, or the Google site, cause I'm turning into a Facebook addict! :0 Now I know why they call it CRACKbook! :0
  • Christine Bedard

Is that costume just the BEST??? Actually, the one that won best prize that night was the Sarah Palin. The runner-up was The Joker. Yeah, that Facebook. I've reconnected w/ so many people from the past. I love it. And everyone who has resisted that is now on it keeps saying the saaaaame thing, "I'm soooo glad I joined!" Well, I'm gonna hit the bed soon. Went back to my bootcamp class tonight after not going since BEFORE CHRISTMAS. I'm gonna be Dying tomorrow - I know it! Ugh!
  • Christine Bedard

I hadn't been to my class since Thanksgiving! So I Forced myself to go! Felt good when it was over! Today I'm sore. Oh well, no pain, no gain!
  • Christine Bedard

Thanks for the encouragement. Goodness knows we could ALL use THAT when it comes to Exercising! Ugh!
  • Rhoda Collins

I got my Grand! It is awesome! I will say, it has THE best touch ever of all of the Others! I wish I had a job to go to today, LOL! I just love it! Goin to go do some practice, LOL. Writing with it right now in steno keys.
  • Tami

Oh, and I'm sure they have the feature, knowing Eclipse. Just making sure.

  • Stacy Tegner

Thanks, Jenny!! My page looks so good, because I got slammed the last two weeks w/ work and, of course, do many other things when I should be working. I'm such a procrastinator:)) I was going to take this week off to get caught up b/c I still have about 550 pages out that are due next week (remember those two really long days? it's from then!) I did take an emergency job for a friend yesterday that, of course, is expedited for Monday. It was only about 60 pages, though! I'm trying to enjoy the work b/c I'm sure I'll have a slow period or cancellation perion soon. I'm sorry about your 22 pages ~ I hate weeks like that when you're ready for lots of pages!!
So I unchecked that one box on the LS (can't remember what it is right now!) and yesterday was okay. I haven't done the retran yet w/ different configs. I know I need to, but since I don't know how to do it real quick, I'm waiting until I'm caught up on work ~ next week, I'm hoping!!
I'm sending you really good, positive job/page karma for February =))
  • Stacy Tegner

Oh, and definitely let me know how the Grand goes!! I always thought those machines looked so hard to get used to ~ but then here I am on the LS, which looks just as weird ;))
  • Stephanie P Borthwick

Hi Jenny! I was on a Stentura way back when. I'm most recently switching from the Gemini Piper. It was the split keyboard, but the keys were more of an up/down button then the Stentura-type keys. I had a brief period of adjustment and connection problems with this one, but now I am sold. I got the package with the UMPC and it's just amazing. I get comments from people at just about every depo I go to, it's really unusual looking. I love that it's easy to adjust and that I can change my writing position as I need to. Switching to having your hands apart is not as hard as you might think, just go gradually. I can't imagine writing with a traditional machine ever again!

Jason is really helpful, but if you can't get hold of him and there's anything I can help with (or try anyway) let me know.
  • Brenda Rogers

Binding and mailing and more tripts. Fun? No.
  • Stephanie P Borthwick

I traded in the Piper for the Rev Grand. Re the stacking, our instinct, or at least mine, was to make those keys (like g ending, etc.) more sensitive. In actuality what you need to do is make those keys LESS sensitive. I know it goes against the way we think, but if it's too sensitive it doesn't give it a sensing break from the first stroke to the second. I'm sure that's not the way Jason would explain it, but it works for my brain!

I love that on the Grand you can adjust everything: force, depth, sensitivity and then also the angles at which you hit the keys by adjusting where you place it. I think the most helpful hint for me was the stacking one I just gave you. Figure out which keys stack and make them less sensitive.

Also, you know when you're looking at the interior "dots" to adjust each key separately? The upper most with the machine as you would write you should adjust a quarter turn at a time (Jason says to use the writing on the screwdriver as a guide), the next level a half turn and the bottom level or ones closest to the keys about three quarters of a turn.

It does take a little fiddling to get it where you want it, but what I did was just picked one problem at a time and then went that way. You don't want to adjust, say, sensitivity, force and depth all at the same time, because one can cause the other to adjust. I believe I got the depth about where I wanted and then adjusted sensitivity. Force doesn't seem to change things as much, so I adjusted that last.

I need to do a little tweaking still on my left T, but my tran rate is back up where I like it and I feel like each day my confidence is getting better.
I did have the quiet touch Piper, but the new Rev Grand blows it out of the water for quietness. It's amazing.

    HTH, Steph
  • Brenda Rogers

Oh, I slack off plenty. In fact, I'm tired of my page and don't want to wait until tomorrow, Feb, to change it. Going to do it now! To heck with work. ;)
  • Brenda Rogers

  • Tina Givens

Jenny! You kill me! I was just up in Rachel's room and saw the third book on her bed, which I still need to finish. She is gone for the evening, so I am trying very hard to resist temptation and stick to the scoping I should be doing. We'll see which part of me wins out tonight, work or play!!
  • Tina Givens

I love it!!! And you convinced me. I'll proof my pathetic 48 pages and then I am hitting the book!!

Should we compare pathetic page counts for the week? Just realized I only had two jobs with a whopping total of 63 pages! I'm guessing the RT job went away because you promised to tell me every detail and I've heard none, lol!!
  • Tina Givens

Wow, what a pitiful prize to win, but you are the winner!!!

Stop torturing me with the Twilight references!! I just printed so it is reading time -- woohoo!!!!

You can't kid me, you are more than ready!!! That's one aspect that I can be your personal cheerleader. Go Jenny!! Go Jenny!! You got it!! You're worthy!!! Too tired to dig up an emoticon, so you'll have to use your imagination!!
  • Brenda Rogers

Was doing it as your message came in! :)

never mind my question in chat -- you just answered it!
  • Brenda Rogers

The end of January. The transmittal by the end of Feb. But if your subs are friends/you know them well enough, they'll probably not care anyway. IRS won't know when you get the 1099s out, just the transmittal to them.
  • Stacy Tegner

I lowered it to 25 so we'll see. I love TM, but I do get the odd words once in a while ~ never even knew what the number was for ~ I guess 50 was default b/c that's what I've always used :)
I'm still plugging away at these pages. I just don't usually have so many pages in one week ~ I'm so not used to working like this. You know how sometimes every job you touch either cancels or is really, really short ~ I had the good vibe of everything I touched was really long. I'm not complaining ~ I should be happy since I was so slow there for a bit ~ hopefully this is a good sign for us all =)
I'll be cleaning w/ you next week AND getting my laundry done ~ hopefully. I think I'll finish these and want to plant or be outdoors ~ that is if I get it done before the next rain is supposed to come. I have some hydrangeas I want to transplant and beds to plant ~ I do think of many things to do when I can't do them, though ;))
    Have a great week!
  • Rhoda Collins

    Jenny,
I have not messed w/my keys. I am liking it as is so far....will post more this week!

  • Linda Pugliese

I LOVE that picture. Man, I sure feel and look like that sometimes! Thank you for the thought.
  • Tami

Yes, I guess that's what you call it. My baby is a barmaid, and, unbelievable as it seems, I really am proud of her. She's been on her own since she was 18 and hasn't asked for a dime. Well, actually I think she did once and we said no such luck. She was making some STUPID decisions that we didn't approve of, and we did the tough love thing, and now she tells us she's glad we did.

She was an awesome softball player and a point guard in basketball with pretty unbelievable hands, so it just makes sense she'd go there with her job.

She didn't know the guy that was taping her and actually didn't even know he was taping. She said she usually always knows.

Said Hulk Hogan's daughter was in last week filming her reality show, and she thinks she might have gotten some footage on the show. She wasn't sure, but they did tape her. They have a mechanical bull in the bar, so Hulk's daughter rode it, etc., and did the crazy party thing. Guess I gotta keep an eye on that show now whenever it comes out. :)

She's also planning on entering into some competitions. Said they're all males down there, so it is a bit intimidating, but I think she'll be fine.

Hope your week has been going great!
  • Tami

    I love that pic!!

Thanks for putting it on my page!
  • Rhoda Collins

No jobs this week, of course, lol. But doing some practice on it. Not ready to play w/the tension yet. I think I like it as is....seems to write clean! I will listen to your stories for now, lol.
  • Stacy Tegner

HI Jenny ~ phew ~ just sent out my last transcript and am going to sit down and play w/ the LS for a bit!! What did you decide ~ are you going w/ the Grand?? I hope things have picked up for you ~ were you able to cover that Santa Cruz job this week?
Okay ~ here I go. I think I'm going to listen to an old wav file from a job for a little and then do the retran thing w/ my configs ~ if I can figure it all out before I have to go to my daughter's classroom at 10 ;))
    Happy Friday!!
  • Tami

So I see Chuck M. is selling a Grand on here after just purchasing it in Oct.

    I'm sure you saw that.

Hope you're having a great weekend. We're doing birthdays. My husband's was yesterday, and I know you know Clay's was Friday. We're doing a Sunday brunch today -- soon. We're giving Clay a RT ticket to Key West to see his sister. Just waiting for him to give us the green light on the dates.

I told him I wanted to go, too, but he said no. :)
  • Brenda Rogers

Looks like I'm staying home. It's falling apart. My client can't get an answer from opposing. Tomorrow is off for sure, and Thursday is iffy. I'm giving the job to LeAnne to take care of. I'm swamped anyway.
  • Rhoda Collins

I use mine more tilted 'in'....pinkies higher than my index. My pinkies always seemed to not hit the key otherwise, lol. I have not messed w/the tension still. Just letting myself adjust right now. I did have my cables loosen...the ones on the back of it...and it was not writing, lol. So I will double check those before I start any job now! :) It is so much more comfy tho! I am really loving it!
  • Audrey Ricks

Hello! Great to hear from you! Yes, we are getting some rain, but most if it's gone now, at least until Monday (so the weather reports indicate). My hubby's favorite line, "I want a job where I can be 75% wrong all the time," speaking of the weatherman! I haven't done a THING with the X7 yet. Still in the box (big surprise, huh?). I've actually been getting more internet streaming jobs/requests lately. I have an acquaintance at a local law firm who works in the IT department. He said I could bring the X7 and try it out and run some tests. He became very panicked when I told him that "soon I'd be rid of all these cables and simply using bluetooth." HA!
I didn't realize you were on the "no-sugar" thing! I took this photo with my new macro lens, trying to capture the details of the candy. Then I found a cool article about these cute little confectionaries, so I was going to add the post/link on my page to go along with the photo.

Are you going to the ESL seminars in May?
  • Audrey Ricks

Here's the link to the article:

    http://www.spiritmag.com/uploads/pdf/click_this/Candy_Hearts.pdf

Hopefully it won't make you have a craving for sugar! ha ha
  • Audrey Ricks

So far the LiveNote Streaming wasn't so bad -- logged on to the wireless Internet signal at the firm, plugged in my password provided by LN, the atty did the same -- voila! Realtime is in view! This particular time, the atty had his client logged in from New York, and the client would send Instant Messages to the atty as he'd see things come up that he wanted to draw attention to for the atty. (Contradict what the witness was saying, etc.) I haven't done the video stream yet. HA!

No, I don't *think* I'm going to LV this year either. I was thinking about it, since my great niece will celebrate her 1-yr birthday in May and she lives in Vegas. But I'll have to see how things go in May. Seems like there's just SOMETHING coming up every month either in travel or in expense! I still need to register (and practice for) the CRR (in all of my spare time)! haha

    I took a macro shot of a flower -- I'll post that after Valentine's day. I think you'll enjoy it. (And it's sugar-free!!!!)
