No, I don't think that it does because I am pretty sure I have that turned off. My wireless would have to be on because of the Bluetooth. As I said, Elizabeth Campbell said that she uses her A3 just like I use mine and has had no problems. I have a feeling she may be right and that it is my Bluetooth adapter going bad. I'm just so tired of dealing with peripherals. I am starting to believe in the KISS principle. LOL

Thanks for the compliment on the picture. That was taken last week at a baseball game we took my son to while he was in town. I guess I probably shouldn't have cropped him out; afterall, it was Mother's Day!

I'll have to post more pics when I get a chance. I have two grandbabies that I like to show off. I also have four dogs and I see you are a cat lover! We could probably start a zoo!!!

BTW, my hard head is still thinking about the LS. Let me know what you decide to do on it.
  • Tim Floury

Jenny, I'm going over there now. Yeah, I think it's a great idea.

    Thanks,

    Tim
  • Tim Floury

Hey, Jenny, what's up with the new CR-Net? It's really odd. Things are out of order from what I'm used to. Though I guess part of my problem is I don't really love change. LOL.

And thanks for mentioning the cruise. We're very excited. We're going with 12 family members total on this one, and the kids are each bringing a friend. We're sailing out of Manhattan (never been). Can't wait to sail past the Statue of Liberty.

Anyway, back to my arbitration of a craps dealer who was fired for being too loud at the table. Whatever!

    Tim
  • Tim Floury

Actually, it's an arbitration and I just got done with the opening statements. Arg!!

Wow, how lucky to get to go to NY and stay for a month. I heard they are reopening the crown of the Statue of Liberty on July 4th to the public again. It's been closed since 9/11. I would so love to do that. The wife wouldn't do it for nothing, but I would. We actually were just talking with my sister-in-law and brother-in-law about going out to NYC a couple days early to get to do some of the "stuff" around town, you know, the Central Park carriage ride, Empire State Building, Etc.

But, where do we stay? Can we afford the hotel and the $30 a night parking while we're on the cruise, seeing that I'm paying for 6 of the 12! :O

Since I haven't seen Desperate Housewives for the last 3 weeks and since I can't afford to spend 2 hours watching the season finale tonight, I'd better get back to my craps game!

    Talk to you soon,

    Tim
  • Tim Floury

Oh, wait! Change of plans. Root beer float break!

    Tim
  • Linda Sorge-Howard

Thanks for the comments on my pics, Jenny! I had to show off my grandbabies. They're just the sweetest little things.

I have a job tomorrow evening that I am dreading because of all the problems. So tomorrow morning I am going to get my old computer out that I know worked with my G2 and Eclipse and see what's shaking. That should tell me whether or not my adapter is bad. I think that's the culprit, honestly. If it is, I am probably just going to buy me a new adapter and live with the equipment I have for a while.

Thanks for putting me onto this site. I'm enjoying it a lot. Tons of great information.
  • Audrey Ricks

Hello again! Yes, I've been swamped. I have one more day of depos tomorrow, then I am off for FOUR GLORIOUS days! Soooo looking forward to it! I have not checked out Magnum Steno, but it sounds like it's highly recommended (by you), so it's certainly worth checking out! Let me see if I can find it now! (LOL)

Btw, the rose photos on your page are beautiful! I am sorry you weren't able to locate the one you had in mind! I have taken lots of floral photos in the past few weeks, but I haven't had a day or so to even download photos and organize them! Hoping to over the weekend! I'm so burried in work that my "fun stuff" is falling behind! (Dogs, photography, family!) Yikes!

I'll let ya know what I find in Magnum. (or you may see me pop up over there... wherever that is!) ha ha ha

    Thanks again!!!!!
  • Audrey Ricks

Oh, here it is, on the left margin of your page! DUH! Off I link! hehe
  • Tami

Yes, I kind of regret not taking the leap back when I had it in the mailbox. Now I'm swamped with the new judge and wondering if I'll ever see daylight. The realization is Clay is swamped, too, to waiting to "practice" on his stuff just ain't gonna happen.

One of the girls at the courthouse here who switched to Elcipse a couple years ago just dove in and switched immediately and just fought her way through. I probably just need to do that.

I did get your email over the weekend. Thank you for that!

Clay did give me the "cheatsheet," and it wouldn't let me get into some of the tutorials that I wanted to get into, SO I guess I'll need to do that when I get it. Clay said it all came with his software.

    Hope you've been doing great!
  • Linda Sorge-Howard

Hey Jenny, wanted to report to you that I went to the Apple store last night because I had exhausted all possibilities with my problems. After about 40 minutes, we got both the audio and realtime to work. Shut the computer down, worked. Started it up this morning, worked. Had a job at 5, connected, froze, recorded audio. I am ready to get a gun and blow holes into all of this equipment! LOL

How are things going for you? Have you had anymore problems? Hope not.

Wanted to say hey and see how things are going for you. I'm getting excited about going to LV next week. Just wish my stuff was working right. But I have time still and am going to be working on it.

    Take care. Talk soon.
  • Linda Sorge-Howard

Sorry to hear about your problems with your machine. By any chance, are you running Vista on your laptop? Apple told me they don't recommend it and that's what I am running. They think that XP would be much better. I guess I'm now taking that survey!

Can't believe the witness was that stressed. I wasn't even that bad when I did mine! That's horrible, and scary. She could have stroked out right there. Of course, if the attorneys are like the ones here, they probably wouldn't have noticed.

Are you planning anything big for the weekend? Not too much here except working around the house and trying to get out all these jobs stacking up because I'm too busy dealing with computer problems.
  • Linda Sorge-Howard

Doesn't it seem strage that Eclipse realtime is freezing up for all these people? I've read abt it happening for others in different forums. Let me know what happens with your sister's machine.

When I bought my Mac they told me to get XP but I couldn't find it. Said Vista would be ok. They also told me Bootcamp would be fine. Now I am reading abt ParalleLs and VMFusion. I am so confused! I have no firewall or antivirUs working. Can't be that. Slowly I am ruling things out but losing what sanity I have left!
  • Linda Sorge-Howard

Jenny, you know now that I am thinking about it, I downloaded the latest version, 4.3.0.6 and that's when my problems started. I spoke to Eclipse about this and they told me that there was nothing wrong with that update and it was okay to use, that it wouldn't be causing my problems. But because I don't trust anything or anybody, I wiped it out, and reloaded my trust 4.2.0.8 or whatever it is. Still, I am having problems, so I don't know.
  • Linda Sorge-Howard

Well maybe that "I don't trust anything or anybody was a little harsh"...sorry! Brain not totally in gear! LOL. Our problems may be separate issues but we are both freezing. Just spoke to Elizabeth Campbell and she is running XP. So now I am trying to find out where. Can purchase a cheap copy. She said there was a post somewhere abt someone/place selling it in plain box, shribk wrapped, and certified. If you or anyone comes across this, please let me know!

I'm going off to the fake and bake! First time ever! LOL

My husband is not going to LV. Work stuff ya know. A friend is going with me. She's never been to LV and has only flown once before this. Should be interesting!!! No plans to see a show but who knows?
  • Linda Sorge-Howard

Hey, I did learn some things at the fitness center....I NEED TO JOIN! This place is fabulous, classes, pools, whirlpool, sauna. Definitely has to help me with the pain issues I have from the accident. I signed up yesterday. Will start when I get back from Vegas.

Fake and bake......I went to the tanning bed! I have never had the desire to do that but decided that since my class reunion is coming up in June that I want to look extra good and I would go try it. It was relaxing and so far I am enjoying it. Don't know I will do it forever, but it will help for the timebeing.

I also got in touch with a massage therapist that I knew when I was doing that early on after the accident. She now has her own clientele and will come to your house. She's coming Wed before I get on the plane Thurs!!!! LOL

I know, I have got so much happening right now. But to be honest, it's time for me to think about me and my health and stress level and that's exactly what I intend to do!

Still fiddling with computer and problems. I'm thinking of ordering XP to put on my computer and try that.

Hope you have a good weekend. Don't work too hard! It will be there next week.
  • Linda Sorge-Howard

I'll have to zip over to depoman and see what Chuck is complaining about with the LS. I always like to read other people's issues, just in case.....you never know, as we both know! LOL

I use to do so much fun-in-the-sun stuff. It's a wonder I don't have more problems than I do now. I apply lots of moisturizers that I buy from SEPHORA! I love that store! Going there today as a matter of fact. But as I said, I'm not a sun goddess or always wanting to be dark. I'm really trying to just even out what I have. Gotta make those tops look good!

Ice cream??? Did anyone say ice cream????? I have a supreme weakness for it and Starbucks. Give me either one or both. I'm trying to be good, especially now since I'm shelling out money for the health club. I can do this and I WILL! Please help keep me on the straight and narrow!
  • Linda Sorge-Howard

    Ok...not super try, but try.

Is it time for that ice cream???? ROFL
  • Clay Frazier

    Hey,
I reread your comment about block files.
They always read in fine without me having to go in the advanced tab like you said. I am now figuring out list files and modifying and deleting the block files that I inherited that are broken or irrelevant.

BUT I was wondering, do you know the way to do a steno macro?
    I can't figure it out.
I went into the macros and tried to make a new one and do all the commands, but it's too complex :(
    thanks!
  • Clay Frazier

Yeah. I've almost figured it out. I am so close.
for some reason, it doesn't work the first time, but it works the second time... the first time, it just brings up the list of block files. so then I escape and do the stroke again or later on and it works perfectly.
I am reading in my _______ called as a wit by _____
and then it has the clerk speaker ID and then oath and then goes all the way down to THE WITNESS:
so, yeah, it is stumping me why it only works alternatively.
  • Clay Frazier

I have no idea what you're talking about, but I think I got them working good. lol. I made another one and it worked every time. :)
  • Clay Frazier

i think I basically did everything you said, and I know what I did, but I don't understand when you say it maybe. haha

My blocks are in a block folder at the bottom of my transcript database.
long ways, I would hit alt R go down to blocks and then click which block.
well, now I just made a macro do accomplish the same, but assigned a steno stroke so that way I can do it while im realtiming.
  • Linda Sorge-Howard

Jenny, I hope it goes quickly too! Really wanna get a netbook.

I still do not have my equipment working. I am so stressed I should be eating Klondyke bars too!!! LOL. I have nothing packed and I haven't gotten any work out at all. I have thought of backing out but have all that money invested.
  • Linda Sorge-Howard

Oh I'm not worried abt what clothes to bring...got that fig'd out.....its all the equipment, etc., little stuff.

I'm just tired and frustrated. I do need all of my points. Plus the classes are all so good! I can't wait to get thr to learn.
  • Clay Frazier

    they are .ecl files

I know how to email files, but If it's the actual macros you wanted me to email, I see the export button, but it just says error when I hit it. So I'm not sure how to email the macros.
  • Clay Frazier

    what's your email address?

    Idk if it will work.
I export it to a certain spot (desktop, documents, etc) and it shows the logo of an eclipse transcript, but when i click it, it says, "C:\Users\clay\Documents\SWORN2.ecl is not an Eclipse file."
so i go in the properties and it says the file name is sworn2.ecl, not all the other stuff, and that it is a eclipse file.
    hmmm
  • Clay Frazier

well, the reason i was making them ecls was that when i made them .mac files, it was creating them as quicktime files. then when I pulled up the quicktime file, it says it's corrupted.

If you know how to edit/create the macros and the only thing you're missing is the stenowriter macro thing, it's super easy.
All's you do is click the macro on the right, press edit, press dict entry, and then make your outline and it prompts the macro.
  • Clay Frazier

I tried emailing you, but i got a return letter saying the email address was no bueno.

i might have to call support, but do you know how you make the fields conform to the size of whatever it is you want to put in there but at the same time not take up the whole row with blue space? it's such a headache i do all this to save time and i got through the fields filling them in and they're all off so i have to go back again. i know once it's done it will be good.
i try and tweak them with the right settings like force right, etc, but then there's a big space on the left?

also, when you have a field made, how do you edit the properties of the field?
i am having to delete them and recreate them because i dont know how to simply edit the properties of a field....
    gahhhhhhhhhhj
  • Clay Frazier

i tried to email you, but i got a letter back saying the email address was no bueno. i copy pasted it the way you sent it so yeah..

do you know the command to edit the properties of a field? I am having to delete and recreate every time i want to change somehting.

and i might have to call support on this one, but im having a hard time making my fields the right size. I try to check adjustable, i try to uncheck it, i put field size at two and it comes out 10 spaces long..different things.. i dont get it.
when i fill out all my fields together, they all end up a space off or the field didnt conform to the letters or it cut off the end of the judge's name and i have to fix em all and defeats the point of it in the first place. it sucks.
    what do you do?
  • Patricia Goulet

    Hi Jenny,
So nice to "meet" you. I actually don't seem to do a lot of work on this side of the hill. Maybe next time you're passing through Capitola, we could meet for coffee. Am just down the street from Gayle's.

    Pat
  • Jill S. Driscoll

    Jenny!
Am I just now seeing your comments to me about TM? Well, I know I saw one a while back, but I don't remember seeing these last two. Not sure how I missed them! Thank you for your advice and help as always. I tried turning off TM and decided I would rather have it on. I set it at 15 for now. I just have to watch my feed and make sure I don't send out things like "butylene" for "but then" and so forth... but it is always a good idea for me to be hypervigilant so the consumers aren't out there watching their sets and thinking, huh?????????
  • Jill S. Driscoll

I understand why you are upset not to be in LV . The best "learning" conventions are the software ones. They are so all about what you need to know. I still attend the StenoCAT software conventions because I love the people so much. I really liked the software, too. It was a pretty streamlined program, but I sure could edit with it!

I would love to learn more about Eclipse's editing functions just in case some day I want to help someone by scoping or something.
  • Jill S. Driscoll

Oh, yeah, I'm all about hyperkeys. I have changed most of the ones to mirror the smartkeys I used in StenoCAT. I wouldn't dream of editing without them!
  • Brenda Rogers

    These rhodies are beautiful, Jenny!!
  • Brenda Rogers

Just kidding? I kinda doubt that. ;)
  • Brenda Rogers

You are right, though, about the holdouts. I don't know many veteran reporters around here who use hypers. The local trainer says, "Learn them or not; up to you," and doesn't know them herself. That doesn't get people very motivated to put the time into learning them.
  • Glen Warner

    Hi, Jenny.

Alas, no, I don't know anyone that would be interested ... but if you find someone that needs a ProCAT Flash, they can buy my spare for a mere $1300!

    --gdw
  • Glen Warner

    Thanks, Jenny!

It's a good machine. Haven't touched it in a while, though, so I should probably check the battery again!

    --gdw
  • C Cipolla

Thanks Jenny... Let me do some research on the Flash and get back to you and Glen...
  • Elise Nock

i will call. yeah, busy mode, but I'm convinced in getting a scopist for every job, so I can get my life back!! I am just going to have to bite the bullet, but I wnat to make sure I know exactly how much is going out before I commit to it. i will call you when I get home. in sf at Esquire right not, but will catch the train here in just a little but.
talk to you soon, have so much to catch up on, we really need to get together, can we possibly get together the wkd after next?
  • Elise Nock

whose dollhouse is that? what a beautiful little building?
  • Brenda Rogers

I hadn't seen my LOLCat today. Tooo funny!
  • Brenda Rogers

    surgical - SURLG
    surgery - SURJ
    surgeon - SORJ

others have better ones -- at least different ones -- but these work for me now. I wrote the last two out because I learned them as a conflict, and rather than remember which to write out and which not, I wrote them both in two strokes.
  • Karen A. Jones

You're so funny! I'm really feeling the good effects of the may-sahg today. No aching back. Although, then again, I'm not slumped over a Wheel of Fortune slot machine ;)
  • Brenda Rogers

SURN makes loads of sense! I learned SURJ for both, so I tried to come up with a distinguisher. SURN lends itself to endings, like NURN, neurosurgeon. Very nice!

I've been using B-J and N-J for back injury and neck injury. Maybe I'll add the * or a vowel or -R for surgery. hmmm . . .
  • Brenda Rogers

Maybe so. They've been in my dix for almost 2 yrs. However, I've never used them. I'll bet we saw them in the same post!
  • Karen A. Jones

Traveling with Debi is like traveling with my husband: They're prepared for any sort of ache or pain. You need a med, they've got it
  • Karen A. Jones

The sooner you tackle the ESL witness, the sooner you can get the massage. Then you'll REALLY appreciate it!
  • Patricia Goulet

Hi Jenny, 2004, eh? Can't say as I remember it. I do know that I'll be the one the office calls first for emergency jobs, as I'm always johnny-on-the-spot :). Hope you didn't see any typos or mistakes.
Are you around anywhere tomorrow? I'd LOVE to meet you. I have another transcript day. Pat
  • Brenda Rogers

You know, we got a brief for booklet in school. Might have been yours, but I use BOOKT after doing it in two strokes all these years.
  • Brenda Rogers

Guess what I found in my dix? SHOURJ, NAOERJ - shoulder surgery and knee surgery. But no back or neck??? So I added B-RJ and NERJ.

And OFL, I meant BAOKT in my previous post.
