hey ;-) are you done with Theory yet? Congratulations! I guess now they're giving you guys one year to go from Theory to get out of 100's! Is that right? We didn't have that rule when I was in theory ;) If it were, maybe I'd be a little further along!

Thanks, Julie! Court reporting school is hard, so hang in there. I'll be around probably once a week to build speed for the RPR, so I'm sure I'll be seeing you :)

Hi Julie, how are you liking it so far? Well, I started court reporting school I think Aug of '03 and it took me a little over 2 years to get through school. I aced the machine portion of the test and the other portion, but I missed the English test by a few points so I had to wait a while to take the test again. But from the day I started school to my first job was exactly 3 years. I think what got me to get through school so fast was constantly challenging myself to go faster. I always had to get a better accuracy than what I previously did. Also, when you get into speeds what really helped me was a website called speedbuiders.com. You pay for the dictation but they also have a little animated 4-voice that really helped me. 4-voice was what I did best in school I think because of that. And I also sat in court for a year and a half and that was really helpful because it gets you used to the "real" world. :) I don't know if I helped you, but let me know if you ever have any questions or need a pep talk! I know how it is being in school and how mentally exhausting it is! Good luck with everything.

Hi there! I wasn't one to practicce much. Court reporting has come very naturally to me. I think my main piece of advice would be to set goals for youself and believe that you can achieve them! If you believe in yourself you can do anything you set your mind to. I like the book in CD called The Secret, it was really motivating to me and spoke a lot about believing in yourself. Also, surround yourself with people at school that will motivate you and support you on the days when you want to give up. I hate school, but this is the best thing I have ever done for myself. Stick with it and you will love it. If you ever need anything don't hesitate to ask me. Good luck with everything!

Hey Julie. Yeah, I started school last July and like it a lot...well, as much as you can like it I guess! ha ha I'm in the 80/100 speed building class (my first) this quarter, and we're about 7 weeks into it. I've only passed one speed test so far, but that was a BIG thing to accomplish! I don't find that the actual speed as far as my fingers moving quickly is a challenge, but the actual Theory part of it coming just as quick is the most challenging to me. There is still so much that I don't remember or I hesitate on BIG TIME. I'm just ready to be done with all of this and really be a great writer! I can't wait until I am able to look back on all of this and think, "it was worth every minute". So, are you still in Theory then? Which Theory are you learning? I'm a Phoenix Theory. Are you wanting to be a CR, captioner, or what?

Yes, i am indeed an onliney. I am attending the Court Reporting Institue of Dallas. I have been enrolled since April '07. Very challenging & time consuming but so worth it in the end. Good to meet u as well!

You mentioned that you were in a 60wpm speed class...how long was that for? They started us right into the 80/100 class fresh out of Theory! Most people were only writing at 30-50wpm and the second week of class they issued speed tests for everyone. But even though it is an 80/100 class, we still took our first test at 60wpm and moved onto 80 when we passed one of those. It wasn't like we had to pass them or even come close to passing in the very beginning, but STILL! It was scary! I'm glad that's over with now and I know what to expect.
