Wow, 230! That's amazing. I'm so proud of them. The future looks bright. That's too bad about Ms. Gurich. Maybe there will be another event you can catch her at.

Do you have a new assignment since I spoke to you last?

Mark will be speaking at Cerritos; how cool is that?

    Keep in touch...
  • Tami

Clay passed the two legs he typed of the RPR with 20 errors. He should have typed the last leg. I think they allow 57 or 59 errors on it.

    How's Megan doing??

I am going to the convention. Should be a lot of fun. Wish you two could come but know you have a vacation conflict.

We just took a road trip to Utah to see Zion and Bryce National Parks. Had a blast. Just a beautfiful drive!

    Talk to you soon!
  • Tami

BOIT, I did take a new position in January. Love my new judge. I feel so appreciated. He's loving his RT, that's fo' sure. After 12 years with my old judge, everything just seemed to be expected, so it's been a great change for me.

    Hey Christine,
The LiveNote seminar was very informative and I did learn a lot, but I really need the hands-on experience to remember everything I learned. I'm taking my first LiveNote job in a few weeks on a job I've done before and I have a large dictionary on it, so I'm excited to try it out. I just found out this week that I passed the test (they finally e-mailed me the results!) so now I suppose I can use CLR (Certified LiveNote Reporter) by my name if I want....ha ha don't think I will for now.

Anyway, my mom is still at Ranch Springs Hospital right now and I have been having to make HUGE decisions on her life & death issues since I am now power of attorney for healthcare and everything else.....Unfortunately, I'm dealing with a crazy unstable sister who loves to stir the pot for trouble and confusion and she's making my job 10x more difficult than it should be.....this has been so hard to deal with. I don't want to make the wrong decision for her healthcare, but I know she's dying and I wonder am just prolonging the inevitable death...what is the merciful thing to do at this point? I pray for God to give me wisdom.

On a happy note, my kids are all doing great and my husband and I are enjoying the summer. We've vowed to go to the beach body boarding as much as possible this summer, so I am really looking forward to that. I love the ocean and am glad we only live about an hour away.

We just got back from St. John in May (we had to bury Tim's dad in Arlington, VA before we headed to St. John since he died in Dec and they cremated him). But we had a great time there relaxing and enjoying the island lifestyle. Our only plans the rest of the year are a trip to Maui in Sept for 10 days, but that's it......maybe a little B&B up the coast if we can steal a few days.

Anyway, I hope this finds you well....maybe you could give me some pointers and tips for getting my daughter to at least try a theory class, and then I think she'd be hooked. Any suggestions?
God's biggest blessings to you and your family,
    april :-)
  • Tami

    He didn't type the Q & A. Think he should have . . .
  • Christine Kirley

    Yes. Nothing to lose.
Well, Megan is closer to passing the 160's. We just had a week break and she was wanting to pass before the break, but it didn't happen. She wants to come sit out with you soon. They don't count depo sit-out time until she's in the 180 class. They only count court time.

I received an e-mail from Mary Smith. I'll e-mail you some info. Keep in touch
  • Tami

Hey, I finally posted the Vegas pictures. You can steal them now.

What a great time we had!!!!
  • Vita Maria DeBellis

Hi Christine! Like that Jazzzzzzzzzzzzzzy tune!!! Yeah, baby! Yes, I agree, it was nice seeing you after my depo....very interesting info you shared re our industry.....work has been slow for me....wish it were busier..maybe after the elections.....Hope you have a super Halloween! You gonna dress up?? I'm gonna be a sailor girl! Well, if you know anyone who needs help with their schedule and the pay is great have them call me 909-862-3652!!
    Ciao for now!
    Vita Maria DeBellis
  • Tami

Hey, thanks for trying to put my boy to work this week. So nice to have you and others looking out for him!

Your music reminds me of Vegas. We had so much fun!!
  • Tami

    He ordered it on Friday.

Coincidentally I go to pick up lunch at a local place last Thursday -- Clay is within an hour of purchasing it -- and one of my CR friends is there having lunch, and we get on the topic of Clay purchasing Eclipse, and she tells me she went to a re-sale company and saved bucks.

So I call the company, and, sure enough, looks like he will be saving $500 bucks.

I LOVE the "hesitation" briefs. I was thinking why did you asterisk it, so I was sure there were conflicts, so I wrote them, and the only entered entry with all forms was HEFT was hest.

You know, I just don't remember writing hest, so I entered them without the asterisk.

You'll get a kick out of this one. I hurriedly read your post to me this morning, and I'm in closing arguement and "hesitating" came up, and I didn't blink and wrote HEFGT. Of course it didn't tran, which was a bummer for my judge, I'm sure, but I just put a correction note in there. I wanted to do that so I wouldn't forget to enter all forms of it at my break.

I really love it. It's one of those I am not going to have to give a second thought to -- except to wonder why I've been two stroking them for all these years!

Your weekend sounds like so much fun! Sounds like a great 21 celebration for Megan.
  • Tami

    Don't HEFT??

Sounds like so much fun, but I think I would! :)

First job today. He seems pretty confident about it. It's in Beverly Hills, so I might not see him until tomorrow.
  • Tami

    Christine,

    One day early, Happy Birthday!!

Were your eally born on Christmas??

I forgot to call you back, and then I remembered, forgot . . .

I'm trying to remember everything that you asked me about.

I don't think I'll make the seminar in the spring. I don't remember the exact dates. If I do go, it will probably be last minute.

Clay did get his software. He does have his software. He took his first depo and absolutely loved it. Next time you call him for something, I'm sure he'll jump on it.

My boss is wanting to get him on our list here in court. She really loves him to pieces. I just don't want him to get gobbled up here and never make it out. That seems to happen to the pro tems. They end up working FT. I'd like him to experience "the other side" so he has something to compare it to and do what suits him best.

Anyway, Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday!!
  • Tami

I cheated. This site told me it was your B-day tomorrow. :)

(I know you think I have a great memory, but it's really not all that super.)
  • Tami

    AND . . .

So awesome about Megan getting into 200s. She has to be so excited about that. She's going to make such a great reporter.
  • Kelli Combs (admin)

Love the Buble boy! I clicked the Add to My Page here so I could have it too. My second song is a Michael Buble as well -- snagged that from Tari's page. Feel free to yank it from my page! :D

Hi, Christine. Thanks for the info about the Mark K seminar. I signed up for the one in Portland, OR. At first I figured I couldn't really afford it because work has been so slow, but it only took me about 15 minutes to change my mind. LOL And since Brenda R referred me, I got a $50 discount. I'm really excited about going.
  • Kelli Combs (admin)

    Hello Christine,
I have absolutely no idea why this is happening.

here are 2 things we can try,
1- try another browser and see if you can change it.
2- I can reset your account but that sadly will delete all the comments that you ever made anywhere on this site.
you will also lose all comments on your page.
however, you wont lose your friends, groups and some other settings.

Please keep in mind that it might not fix the issue.

am so sorry this is happening to you :(
  • Kelli Combs (admin)

well, since you are not a scopist it doesn't really matter.
if it doesn't bother you it doesn't bother me.

    let me know.
    thanks!
  • Tami

Hey, I didn't really think about staying down there. I think Clay's working in Indio Friday, so I think we'll stick with a day trip. He still hasn't confirmed he's going to make it, and I still need to sign up.

I was holding off because I thought I might book a last-minute vacation, but staying at home for two weeks sounds so nice right now, I don't think that's going to happen. I can't remember the last time we stayed home for Spring Break.

I haven't even gotten the word out around work yet about the seminar, and tomorrow is my last day before my vacation. I'll have to make some phone calls.

I've been fighting that killer virus that's going around. I'm still in shock that the attorneys NEVER slowed down one minute, paused, etc., today to allow me to wipe/blow my nose.

They had to look through me to the witness and saw that I was doing my best to stop it from dripping on my machine.

I swear we hold super-human powers in most attorneys' minds.

We can cough, sneeze, etc., and most of the time we don't even get a "bless you," and yet when anybody else does in the courtroom, I always hear a "bless you." They just keep going like we can hear and sneeze at the same time.

Sorry for griping. I've been working sick all week, and it has gotten the best of me. I'm sure I'll be all rested by next week and ready to go to the seminar.

So excited that both your girls are going with!!
  • Tami

    Hey, how's Jessica doing??

Last time she sat in with me I made her promise she would do the screaming speeds. I even tried to get her to sign up with MK's club.

She obviously writes pretty short and had plenty of room to increase her hand speed. I haven't heard yet whether she loves or hates me. HA!

Does Megan know how she's doing??

She sat in with me on one of the hardest witnesses I've had in a very long time. Five attorneys. Three defendants. It was an I.D. expert (psychologist ). It was pretty intense. The judge was all over his realtime screen, reading back whole questions and answers.

I was hoping she just didn't want to give up the whole idea about being a court reporter on the spot. I reassured her how difficult it was, and hopefully I did my job in making her feel she'll be awesome one day.

Anyway, have Megan tell her I've been thinking about her a lot.
  • Tami

Cole and three of his buddies went to the Ducks game on Sunday. He's been going to at least one Ducks game a year with one of his best friends for quite a few years now.

He drove down, so that was a little bit of a big deal -- even though he's been driving for a year and a half. He just hasn't had too many occasions to drive far away from home -- unlike Clay who drove to skateboard sites all over the place.

I really should check out the hotel for Saturday night. Sounds fun.
  • Tami

I posted them under the Brief Club. Hope you don't mind.

Thought that way we'd get other input, and she can do what works best for her.

It was kind of a little bit of an effort to learn them because we're so used to having to hit the Q & A symbol, but once you get it through your brain that you don't have to, they start to roll off the fingertips.

Hope you're having a nice weekend. It's beautiful outside. Gotta get back out there.
  • Tami

Yes, I just got her message at work -- even though I am off for two weeks for Spring Break. I still need to put on an "I'm away from the office" message.

Megan needs to call my senior, Vonda, and she'll set her up.

    Her number is 304-5177.

I'm sorry I'm going to miss her sitting out in Southwest. We have a great group of girls out there these days. They're all really sweet, so she'll be in good hands.

I'm still floating around, though, so I don't know where I'll be until the Friday before usually and sometimes the day before. I even go to Hemet these days.

The Govenator just appointed four new judges for our county, so there's a chance I might get assigned to one of them if they find him a courtroom in Southwest. We'll see.

I actually have been loving floating. It's more challenging than hearing the same calendars day in and day out. Of course give me a jury trial department, though, and I'm in hog heaven!!
  • Tami

    Hey,

What hotel is it at on Saturday??

Jessica called me yesterday to tell me she qualified. WOO-HOO!!!

I've invited her to go down with Clay and me. I sure hope she takes me up on it.

I let Mark know I was coming, but I forgot to ask where. HA!
  • Christine Kirley

    Hi,
Yes, Jessica qualified. Isn't that awesome!

It's the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina on Harbor Blvd. We're heading down Friday afternoon. I just love San Diego. Horton Plaza is right there too. I'll leave a message on your cell with our room number. If you have anything you want to stash, you're welcome to do that. I e-mailed Mark as well. It will be good to see him again. I think the last seminar we both went to with Mark was December of '06. Yikes, how time flies.

Megan was so frustrated today cuz the 200 test they gave was one that was given two weeks ago. They don't allow you to type them if they are that close together. You think there would be more tests available -- arghh!

Had a rip-roaring hearing today that the attorneys had to talk fast for cuz the judge had another trial to get to. No slowin them down kind of day. And I was sicker than a dog; looking forward to the weekend.

Well, gonna go lay down and hope I feel better for tomorrow.

How are you feeling? Did you recover from that bug you had?
  • Kelli Combs (admin)

    Christine, just a heads up.
Tami wont get your response unless you leave it on her page.
Simply click on "comment back" under the comment to go to her page where you should leave the message.

    thanks!
  • Kelli Combs (admin)

    Hello Christine,
Sorry for taking long to answer you, I got back home last night.
    Try to things,
    1- Check your email settings

2- Go to the group and make sure you click on "follow"

    hope this helps.
    thanks
  • Tami

Walking down the strip, HOW FUN WAS THAT!!

Hey, Clay took that last leg of the RPR on Saturday, feels confident he got it, BUT the reason I'm telling you is a girl from AZ came up to him that said she knew him through the online Stenomaster theory with Jen.

Anyway, she must have been in Megan's class. She took the RPR and said she felt really good about it.

So . . . there is another one out there. :)
  • Tami

Oh, that would be so cool!!

I was trying to get work done today, so I didn't see your post until just now. (I didn't get back on here all day after posting you.)

I'm in court at 9:00 tomorrow.

Today was my first day with a new judge, and I am, once again, the luckiest girl in the world. He's going to be awesome, BUT of course I'll be working more than I'd like. I just hope the body holds out.

April tried my chiro for massage. I didn't hear from her, but the office told me. I'll have to see how she liked it. I'll have a standing 9:00 a.m. Saturday deep-tissue massage scheduled from now until work slows down.

I'm keeping Megan in my thoughts and hoping she gets into qualifying soon!
  • Tami

    Christine,

I didn't ever take a minute and answer your Q about the new judge. Yes, it probably sounds like I've had a whole lot.

Actually, since I started in 1981, I've been assigned to five judges. They've all been true blessings in my life, and I've been so lucky. I worked for the same judge from about 1995 to Jan. 2008. Started with him a couple days a week, and as my hands got better, coincidentally the courts increased the necessity to have a reporter for him from two days to eventually up to five days.

I only left him because I had a deputy that I just couldn't take any more after a year and a half. He left a month after I did and was kicked out his first day he worked in the next courtroom. Guess, looking back, I really shouldn't have tried to put up with him so long.

In Jan. 2008 I applied for another judge. Coincidentally his wife and I went to high school together, and it was just a really great year. Such another SUPER judge.

At the first of this year he was reassigned to Hemet. Driving is still such a huge pain on my hands and logistically it was tough on the family, so I gave him up.

I started floating the first of this year, and I really loved it. It's so great to get around and hear the different words that come up with different judges and calendars.

When my new judge was appointed a month ago, I knew if he happened to stay at the courthouse here, I was going to apply. I had reported some pretty big trials with him, and I have such a profound respect for him. He's a young family guy (44), Christian, and I just wasn't going to say no -- even though the assignment was in a newly built, teeny-weeny courtroom AND he was supposed to do back-to-back misdemeanor trials, which means mainly DUIs.

So, anyway, our first case was a DUI on Monday, but now we've already started a felony hit-and-run case.
He's just so compassionate and kind and, once again, I really am the luckiest girl in the world.

Megan is going to have to come sit out with me. There is absolutely no room for a student, BUT I really need to figure something out about that.

She's got to be so close to getting into qualifers. She's going to be such an awesome reporter!
  • Candice

Hey Christine :) I know, I can't believe I'm a reporter! I wish I was sooner, though. I absolutely Love It. My hands are kind of hurting from writing so much, but I love depos.
How has work been going for you? Been busy?
How is Megan? What CSR is she shooting for?!
Your picture cracks me up :) You don't mess around!
  • Brenda Rogers

Hi, Christine. Numbers are something I developed for myself long long ago, before the advent of number conversion, and I have never gotten used to NC. I wanted things to tran right back then, so I started to tweak the way I write things. I'm not at all sure how it would work for other people, but probably not very well. Here goes though.

When people say something like five thousand four hundred and fifty, I leave out the thousand and the hundred. I write FAO*EUF/*RBGS/FO*UR/TPWEUFT. 5 comma with spaces deleted 4 50. I hear "thousand" in that sort of number and write the *RBGS. It's not an extra, really, since I don't write thousand.

Anyway, that's how I write things. The problems I have is when they say five thousand three, getting in the zeros. If I have time, I do it; if I don't, I write what I hear so that when I look at my notes, I know how to edit it.

It's not the best way, but it's my way. I know it's not very helpful.

Have a good time on your vacation.
  • Brenda Rogers

Christine, you should talk to Jenny Griffin. She's been doing this longer than I have -- and I've been doing it for over 20 yrs. She has number conversion DOWN! She has finally given up trying to convert me to NC, but she has pushed me into hyperkeys and realtime macros. She's a marvel!

I think the reason I can write what I want to see on paper is because I visualize what I'm writing so much. I hear five dollars and thirty cents and I visualize $5.30 and write S-FPLT (my $ stroke)/FAO*IF/P-FPLT (my decimal stroke in place of the "and")/THRIRT and totally ignore the "cents."

    I'm weird. I know. :)
  • Anthony D. Frisolone

Christine, how's the number conversion going? Hope all is well.
  • Anthony D. Frisolone

Hey Chris, just check off "ignore and" and your problem will be fixed. Don't worry about changing your writing, automatic number conversion will do the work for you.
  • Anthony D. Frisolone

Hey, Chris, I just saw a comment on my page about the macros I use. Check out the exceptional extras on your Case CATalyst CD. There are lots of cool ones in the Default Extras keyboard map. They are located in a .zip file entitled Exceptional Extras.

Sorry for getting back to you so late, I didn't mean to blow you off. You can also find me on Facebook and Twitter now.
  • Samuel Garay

The honor is all mine. What a great time we had in San Diego. It was certainly a pleasure being able to spend time with you and your wonderful family. I was indeed blessed. Are you coming to National? I would be great to see you and your family again. I hope all is well. Many blessings !
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

Christine, Just read your post about correcting a message. I'm pretty sure you can copy your message, delete it, and then paste it in a new message box. I'm going to try it on your page right now!

Yes, it works! Unless you can't delete your own post in a discussion ...
  • Kelli Combs (admin)

Wait what? thats a huge bug.
so when you add a friend you get kicked out of a group? is that only happening with the MS group?
    thanks.
    Monti
  • Kelli Combs (admin)

    Christine,
You are NEVER a bother... thats what I am here for!
Reporting bugs is extremely important, I thank you for doing so.

I now understand what you are saying and it is extremely odd.

if you dont mind I am going to remove you as friend, join the group, click follow then add you as friend.
I need to recreate it to catch the bug.

    thanks.
  • Tami

Maybe Megan should call Clay. (951) 440-2626

I really think she should be very careful not overdoing it with her hands. If it takes more time, it takes more time. She's so young, but I know she wants it sooo bad. I think she should probably be off her machine on the weekends to give her hands a two-day rest.

I have another student I have been working with for almost two years now with hand issues. I honestly feel she would have already been going to the CSR save her health issues. She's just a sweetie and my heart breaks for her. She uses her hands at her job typing reports, and I honestly feel that's what puts her over the top. Of course I've hinted to her to quit, but I don't have to pay her bills.

I say have Megan really focus in on quality, not quantity -- for whatever that's worth.

At what speed does Megan write cleanly??

Universal was a lot of fun. First day of school was today, so we were trying to squeeze it in before school started, as we didn't go anywhere this summer -- trip-wise, which is so rare for us.

I have to say the shoulder getting hurt is a blessing in disguise. I enjoyed the summer with my boys. It's still not 100%, so we'll see how well I do back with my busy schedule.

I see Monti is covering the other Q you had. I was wondering why he joined the group when I knew he already had.

You're both in my thoughts, Christine!
  • Kelli Combs (admin)

    Hi Christine,
I am still waiting on you to accept my friendship request so I can test the bug thingy.
    thanks!

    Monti
