I think it's really for working reporters and very high-speed students. It's screamin' fast. It would completely challenge me on a good day and make me cry on a bad one. :)
If I ever make it back to a speed competition, I'll be signing up for it a couple months before.
Glen,
I haven't even seen the phoenix books yet, the school I will be attending told me that they won't be ordeing them until mid-summer. I went to E-Bay, but didn't win the bid. I guess thats a good thing because I am not sure what current books really need. The one on E-Bay was edited in 1997. The school, located in Florida, so far does not impress me. Luckily I haven't enrolled yet. Thanks again. I already ordered new refurbished equipment with all the accessories, so until then I can't do much practicing as my old machine has lost its touch.
Thank again.
Glen,
Thanks, you are being very helpful. I did order the student edition software from stenovations the other day, ($35.00). I am still waiting impatiently for my machine and accessories. They should be here within the next few days. By the way, what do you think of on-line schooling or do you know of any good court reporting schools in the Florida area. The school that I am thinking about attending is already giving me bad vibes. They actually don't seem like they know what they are even doing let alone return phone calls. Oh Well.
Talk Later,
Therese
Hey, Clay got a Flash from a reporter who was just sweet enough to give it to him. He hasn't been using it, but the Smartwriter is in desperate need of a service, so while I had my Mira worked on last week, I took in the Flash, put on wide keys, raised the vowels, and, Man, the touch is incredible!
I think he had it shimmed before. The touch is really right there with my Mira.
Anyway, here's my question.
It has been converted to paperless and only writes to -- is it a SD card??
I know there's no floppy.
So if realtime crashes, how do you read off of that card??
Clay is really wanting to convert to that machine, but we still need to figure out if it's "safe."
I knew you're the one to ask, and I appreciate your help.
So you tried out the Grand! I'm almost done tweaking mine, I hope! I'm selling my LightSpeed. Know anyone interested? I haven't advertised it yet. It's white and works great.
Okay. I don't have any cute, flashy graphics or anything, but I still wanted to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! Hope it's a good one. Maybe you'll get a new snow leopard :-)
Yeah, I think Clay is loving his Flash. He has a couple keys giving him some trouble, like the E is dribbling and showing up unexpectedly, but it really is an awesome machine, just like you've always said. A little trip to get it serviced would probably do the trick. I know my Spring Break repair on my Mira fixed my dribbling. It's the stacking that seems to never have a fix on a Mira.
I think Clay's Flash is shimmed. The touch is better than my Mira. It's really nice.
The backup situation isn't ideal, in my opinion, but I think he's making that work fine, too. I'm just still used to the three or four backups, I guess.
Hey, I never got back to you on the backup question.
Yes, I'm sure Eclipse can back up just fine. It's just taking the time to do it.
I think he's doing just fine, and since I preach way too often "make sure you do this," "make sure you do that," I'm going to trust he's got it covered.
I think it's a better machine than the Mira. Of course mine is stacking like crazy.
My trouble is I just am terrible at reading through the stacks. It's something I never had to do until I've had this machine.
Glen, I'm getting smarter every day. (Non computer writer, trying to get it together).
I think I'm going to go ahead and buy a CAT dictionary from Startran (nice and easy). I just opened up my dumping cable and found out what to do with it (and I'm not being funny).
I have a suggestion: How about if you put together a section CAT for Dummies for old reporters coming back and learning how put our stuff goether. Start out with the types of writers, various software. Tell us what types of cables we need and how we put them together. Even tell us where to get a dictionary. How to initialize our writers for the first time. Tell us everything we need.
Everyone else learns it in court reporting school. I'm sure I'm not the only one who could this info.
Glen, I looked at your CAT Wars page. That's a lot of info you're looking for. I am swamped right now, but if you write to me again in about a month, I might see if I can handle it. I'm looking at switching software companies right now and I would probably not write a very good article just because there are so many things missing from AristoCAT. Like I said, bug me again in about a month and I'll let you know if I want to write something up.
Hi Glen, tried to open up the animal communicator links you left for me but they wouldn't open. Maybe you could just leave a note with the actual web address. That was thoughtful of you. Still missing my Bam but doing better day by day.
Thanks!
I just started a new group called Technolust. I'd love for you to join, especially since you seem to really keep up on the latest in technology via your cheap & sleazy site.
Hello Glen, with The Secret I just kept visualizing my I survived 225 Tee-shirt in a frame, and saying 225 is easy. And also I saw myself being finish with school since the beginning.
It is me, Ann Record, Breck's wife! I used to be Ann Young before we got married. But I really do have a twin sister in real life and she looks a lot like me!
Glen, are you working? You have helped me in the past at depoman and now here at CSR Nation. I'm going back to work! I just posted here. I have to backup all of my files and reload them. I'm so computer stupid! You're the whiz! I hope you're working and doing well and I want to thank you for all of your help!
Remember me? I used to live in Poulsbo, WA and now I live in Richland, WA and I"m going back to work!!!
I just dropped off my computer at Geek Squad. They told me not to bother with fixing it, but it's the computer I used to go on my jobs with, so I feel comfortable with it (audio sync) and such, and so I am getting them to fix it. I think this was the right thing to do, in my opinion. I just want to feel comfortable going on a job and not worry about some new computer! YIKES~
Glen, I'm the economy is doing a real number on us over here so I'm waiting until things pick back up. I'm still on AristoCAT. It's doing the job but sure wish it had more bells and whistles.
Oh, yeah. I forgot about that. No, I didn't make it. I should have, but just never got around to it. I don't go into the kitchen much to cook, only to get my tea.
Tami
