Greta, I love the LS picture. I kept hearing about the cobalt and have never been able to find a picture of it. That blue is beautiful! Does Stenovations have a trade-in program on the colors? Maybe the next generation LS should have a changeable outer shell. You could change colors to match your mood.
Greta! The good news is the SD file is FINE! *whew* Corey is running the issue by John -- probably an update will take care of the problem. (I looked a little further -- not only seriously split strokes, but stacks too. UGH!)
Do you know which writers are compatible with digitalCAT? I have a Stentura 200 SRT that I was using in school. I was also on the student version of CC. But now I want to get a reporter's edition software and I was condsidering digitalCAT, but I want to make sure it will work with my writer.
And in case you're wondering why I'm using such an old writer -- I'm a voice writer, but I want to use steno to get my transcripts out. Of course, the student software is no good for that so I need a full version. I don't want to upgrade my writer right now because I only need it to get out my transcripts (all while getting in good practice time.) If I ever get to the point of becoming certified in steno, then I'll consider a new writer.
Okay, I didn't mean to tell you my whole life story here, I just didn't want you to be totally confused -- oh, just answer the question, dang it! LOL!
Hi Greta, I am very interested in purchasing the Digital Cat for students, but when I call the 800 number to order I never get through to talk to someone about it. Is there a customer service person that I could talk with online. I do have some questions that I would like to ask before purchasing. Thanks.
Greta:
I take it you're a rep for Stenovations. Would you mind emailing me privately at naola@sbcglobal.net. I have a question to ask you that I don't want everyone to see.
Thanks, Naola
I don't know what's changed as of late, but I'm really having trouble getting the courage to take the LS out of the box. I really am just thinking about sending it back before I get attached to that awesome feel.
I've watched the posts over on Depoman for sooo long, and I finally gained the confidence to purchase at the convention this summer, but, man, I'm having buyer's remorse. I can't deal with missed strokes -- period. All the posts have been plain scary recently -- from the support to the writer. Perhaps too many of us purchased at one time??
Well, I got the courage to get it out of the box . . .
Just talked to another reporter who has had the same problems I'm having and is planning on returning the writer. I posted all about my troubles over on Depoman. So sad!
I didn't tran it against the SD card, but I was told by another reporter, who used to be pretty happy with the writer before the last update, (so it seemed) that it would tran the strokes separately. She said she just got to where she skipped that step because it was taking so much unnecessary time.
I am finding other reporters who have had the same problem finally. I was thinking it was a unique situation, but now I'm thinking otherwise.
Guess I really need to get a laptop, then, and stop fiddling with it on Clay's.
I've been shopping today. Considering a ThinkPad. Was putting one together, and it would not let me uncheck the "no bluetooth" box.
Somebody suggested over on Depoman I go BT to cure my problem.
By the time it delivers, I probably will not have enough time before my 90 days to get happy with it. I think you write RT to a judge every day, so you understand that I can't learn on the job. I just don't know how much of my weekend time and after hours I want to put in. If everybody was happy right now, it would be a different story, but that obviously is not the case.
I'll try calling the company tomorrow and see if I get a response. Even that seems to be lacking lately, and I have never heard that complaint before. Guess I need to find out for myself.
Would you mind letting me know which ThinkPad you ordered and what you added to it??
I remember it took Clay's almost the whole two weeks to be delivered. He got it with Vista, and I've been ordered by my courthouse techno guy that I have to go XP.
Think I should shut up about the update. Must not even exist.
I thought one of the choices with that model of the ThinkPad was an additional RAM, bringing it up to four, but I'm sure I'm probably wrong on that, too. :)
Bummer it takes the two weeks.
Does the LS work with Vista? Are there more problems if I go that route?
Greta, I'm writing you here because depoman is still flaky today. I'm wondering if you've downloaded the LS update. There really is a problem with the combinations. As of today, per John Sims, the programmers are working on it. It seems there is a combination default in the download that can't be deleted at all, and it appears in every config you have once you update. The only remedy at the moment is to uncheck the combination option. I've wasted hours and hours on this update, and feel other LS users should hold off updating until they fix this issue. What do you think?
Ah, sorry you weren't feeling well! Yes, when you get a chance, let me know by posting on depoman - I'm assuming it will be back in business soon. Hope your trial goes smoothly - no fast talkers allowed!
Greta: I am a new member at this site and did a search to find out who else might use the LightSpeed. I am at about my wit's end with the machine. I wondered if you could provide any "hope" because it works, it doesn't work, it works and it is not at all reliable, at least for me. Wondering if it might need some kind of firmware update but the one (and only) time it was done, this is when my problems started with the writer and I hesitate doing it again. Mark K. helped with a software update this month in San Diego and it seemed to be working, but then when I went to a job to use it, even though stored in a hard protective case, it was firing off by itself again and writing garbage. Three hours later when I tried again, it worked fine. I think it has multiple personality machine disorder! Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks. Kathy
Hi Greta and thanks for your response. Like i said, i don't know much about the software but i am about to graduate and i really can't afford CaseCat or Eclipse. I do know Eclipse have some great features and i am hoping DigitalCat has it as well. Going to West Virginia will be a task for me because i live in NY that's why i hope its user friendly. I called a few minutes ago and spoke to a rep and he told me i can download the student version for free and use it as long as i want, which i think is GREAT. Another thing is I am not good with numbers so the number conversion will help me out a lot. I watched the demo and it looks pretty user friendly, but it only showed me the basics. If i have any question is it okay if i write you? Once again thanks a million

Here's what I came up with yesterday:
T61
2.5 GHZ
XP downgrade
15.4 Display
Ram 3
250 GB
Intel Turbo Memory 1 GB
Optical device??? Do we need this??
PC card slot & smart card slot
4 in 1 card reader
6-cell battery
Price 1264.92
I will only be using it as my work computer exclusively -- no net, no other programs.
Thanks, Greta!
I want to get it ordered so the two-week clock starts ticking.

Send me your email and I'll send you my specifications.
There is an upgrade to 4G of ram, but with XP you can only have 3.
