I played with it at a seminar and fell in love. I have really bad wrist/arm pain and neck/shoulder pain and so I've got to try something. I'm always in knots.
I haven't written to paper on my Stentura 8000 in years. I just write realtime to my computer and have the backup on disk if I need to retran the job if my realtime freezes.
This new machine has all kinds of backup, expandable to 7, I think, so how you could ever lose a job is beyond me. I've never needed anything more than the one backup and have never looked at my paper notes since school.
It has the little mini computer on top of it and that records your audio. It comes with a tiny mike for that and a littel USB hub for other things you might need to plug in.
You can add the 3G wireless internet. He told me I just have to set it up to receive my Sprint info and it will start working just like my Spring wireless card does now to have internet access at my depos.
They will send you a writer to try out for two weeks but I doubt it comes with the computer screen up top. It's probably just the machine so you can see if you like the feel of it.
You can keep it exactly like your old machine or you can move the left keyboard to the left, the right side of the keyboard to the right. You can even twist them where your palms are facing each other!!! Whatever's comfortable for you, this machine can do it.
There's lots of people wanting to know about this machine, so I might not remember to comment back, so ask me in about a month or so after I get it what I think of it.
And it costs the same as all the other writers and I don't want the SAME kind of writer. That is not going to help my aches and pains whatsoever!
And it has an infinite number of key adjustments if you write a long, hard stroke or short, quick strokes.

Hey Kathy, that's my Murphy. He was about 3 months old in that picture and was cuter than ever at that pint but he is still pretty cute. I thought yours looked like a Schnauzer but really, standard? How much does she weigh? I have 2 mini Schnauzers that I raised in college and now "belong" to my parents. When I started court reporting school (just 4 months after I got Murphy), we moved in with my parents so he loves the Schnauzers. I have a white one that is a girl and a black one that is a boy.

By the way, are you on DM too?
  • Ashley

No, murphy is a yorkie because I bought him when I was living in new york city and schauzers need more room to run and exercise. Growing up, we had a yorkie, maltese, and mini schauzer. The schauzer gor cancer and died from
chemotherapy when I was in college so that's when I got my mini white one. The white one, Maggie, weighs about 18-20 pounds. The black, beckett, is about 22. We think he's mixed with a standard. Schnauzers are the "dogs with the human brain," they truly are very smart!!

On the upper left of the page, there is a search feature. It took me a while to find it but now I use it constantly when in need of s brief. I write the word Im searching for and then choose to search within forum theory bc that is the brief area.

    Hello Kathy,
I moved the Birthdays to the left side and only to show on the homepage.. however, i have put it back on the right side as you were not the only one to not find it.
I wont mess with it anymore.. hehe.
Here is Mikes picture, notice how his disease started affecting his hand?
I saw his doctor and designer on larry king talking about how he requested gloves to hide it.. thats how he started wearing one glove.. because he really only needed one to hide his effected hand (2 years later it started covering his whole body)

  • Kelli Combs (admin)

Yes, He had a disease called Vitiligo his skin was basically losing its color (my grand mother suffers from it and she is white)

He tried to hide it with lots of make up but there are many pictures of him where the disease is visible.

Check out this video.. if you look closely you will see spots on his face, all these pictures were from live events where his make up would basically wear off.
Of course, most people still believe he wanted to be white.

Hi Kathy, I have been in delinquency since 1986--a long time. Of course, I feel very "at home" there. I've worked with the same judge and clerk 23 years. I prefer this low-volume court. I only do 2-3 transcripts a month and am very happy about that. I have a life! Thanks for writing.

    Hi Again, Kathy,

I attended the CCRA convention in Indian Wells/Palm Springs and first heard about CSRNation and signed up that night.
Regarding furloughs, I was able to take three-day weekends for about three months for our furlough because I worked in the one court in the building that had to remain open for detentions. (Also my seniority helped.) But now that it's considered a "court holiday," I have to be off on the third Wednesday, same as everyone else. They are not so sticky about our hours as in your building. Sorry about your situation. That's a bummer, really.

    hi,
I tried fitting them in the right bottom, no luck.
they are now on the left side on the hompage.. am going to try it there for a week and see if people complain.
    ha!
    thanks
  • Kelli Combs (admin)

Haha, its all good Kathy, your never a pest.
Go to the home page CSRnation.com then look at the left side.. a bit to the bottom.
let me know if you cant find it.
    thanks!

Just wanted you to know I did finally order the Revolution Grand writer. It should ship this next week of the 19th. I'm so excited. Remind me to let you know what I think about it. I just happened to see your post on my page again and I think I'd written to you to say that I hadn't ordered it yet.
Email me if you want: christy@legalsolutionscourtreporting.com
  • Christy Fagan, CRR, RMR, CSR

I can't remember when I ordered mine. I think I'm going on week four and I sent an Email to Jason last week telling him I was getting antsy, and he said that it should be shipped this week!
I got the bright & shiny red color. I think he said it's the color that Lexus puts on their red cars rigth now - whatever that is!
  • Angelia Bell

Wow, thanks Kathy!! So much encouragement!! Thats what I really need now is the support. I feel like no one in my circle can even understand my enthusiasm for this profession. My mom is very supportive of me furthering my education though but when I mention court reporting to my coworkers, friends, neighbors, customers that come into the store, they're like 'huh?' They don't know much about court reporting/captioning so I guess I can understand the blank stares (LOL)! One of my closest friends I met at CR school, she had to drop for similar reasons (job loss). She's considering doing online classes as well. I am sending her the link for this website so she will get the same encouragement I've received. Thank you SO much Kathy!! Its nice to have a new friend in the CSR Nation!! :-)
  • Angelia Bell

How funny! Yeah I've come across a few people who actually know what a court reporter is & they had dollar signs in their eyes when I told them about going to court reporting school. The income potential is just one of the aspects I love. I also like the career options, the flexibility, the respect. On a more basic level I love typing, I love words, & I'm an information/current events junkie!
  • Christy Fagan, CRR, RMR, CSR

Well, I didn't hear from him and I didn't ask him again the status of it. Hopefully it shipped and I'll get it next week. Things are kind of slow right now so I'd like to have time to play with it and not be rushed when I do get it.
Have you heard anyone say anything about the PC that sits on top, how reliable it is, how easy it is to load the software and get everything going, how easy/hard it is to adjust the keys to get it to your liking?
I've had a Stentura since '95 and never once have I adjusted the keys. I just figured some days/words I could write and others I couldn't write a thing!
  • Maggie Cline

Hi, Kathy: It is so nice hearing from you. Thank you. I see you are an official in Orange County -- congratulations. I am semi retired. I represent ProCat and a company called StenoCast. I also teach some online classes for the College of Court Reporting in Hobart, Indiana. I am still living here in Southern California. I am a widow. My mom who I cared for while working at South Coast passed away in 2000. I worked for Stenograph for 18 years -- 8 years as a trainer and 10 years as a sales person. That terminated in May, 1997. My kids are out here. My son lives in San Juan Capistrano and my daughter lives across the street here in Rancho Santa Margarita. She is a depo reporter. I have two glorious grandchildren -- a boy 5 and a baby girl, 2. I just finished their Halloween costumes. He will be Batman Beyond (you know how many Batman costumes there are????) and she will be a Princess/Butterfly. I am going to his soccer game shortly this morning. I am a member here and on Facebook. I am so glad you saw me here. Let me know how you are doing. I would love to catch up.

Hi, Kathy, read your note on the paperless in Orange County. Is there a contact name/number you could provide? -Sue Holthaus
  • Christy Fagan, CRR, RMR, CSR

Oh, I don't know about that. I know Baron was what was going to work if I got the LightSpeed, but I hated the feel of it and didn't want it. I guess I'll try all of them until one works!
UPS called and said they needed a clarification on my street address yesterday but no machine yet! It better get here today. Of course my 10:30 turned into a 1:00 o'clock job, so they'll probably try to deliver it while I'm not home. I WILL cry if that happens!
  • Angelia Bell

Hi Kathy! I'm unfamiliar with the Smartwriter. I'll Google it & do some research. I wanted to say that I think you are awesome for allowing students into your courtroom to get a feel for what its like & to see you in action. I wonder if any court reporters here in the Ft Worth/Dallas areas do something similar. I saw the "CLR" behind your name...I know what CSR & RPR stands for but not CLR?
  • Christy Fagan, CRR, RMR, CSR

Ugh! Of course it came while I was at my depo. It came at 2:00 and if my depo hadn't of been moved to 1:00, I would have been here.
Then we tried to go pick it up at UPS between 7:30 and 8:00 and my driver still wasn't there at 8:15 so they told me I had to come back another day and get it.
I'm soooooooo mad. I've got 3 days of depos starting today and I don't get to play with my new machine!
  • Debra Butler

Thanks for the birthday wishes, and encouragement, Kathy. This is one of the biggest challenges I've faced in my life, but I LOVE it!! It's actually addictive. Everyone is so positive and always willing to help - I know I can do this, I know I can.
  • Linda O'Hearn

    Hi Kathy,

Thank you for the kind words. You made my day!!

    Linda
  • Christy Fagan, CRR, RMR, CSR

I'm trying to set it all up right now so i can play with it. Bad news is they should just say call us and we'll get you set up because the directions don't tell you how to do anything. They just say "do this" and don't give you any steps for how to "do that".
I've been on the phone with Jason and asking him all my questions and it seems easy enough, just antsy to get to playing with it.
I have Stenocat so I need the latest version to get it to work, and they have to send it to me; it's not available for upload from the website. So I have to wait on that before I can play with the feel of it.
It's pretty, though! And the mini laptop is really neat.
  • Angelia Bell

Ok, Ok!! If your not willing to sell yours! (LOL) ;-)
  • Angelia Bell

Oh ok, thats a new one (to me)! Livenote huh? I like the way it sounds! ;-)
  • Glen Warner

    Hi, Kathy.

    You're welcome!

I saw Keith's initial posts about the flashcard programs he was using, and thought that pictures would help sell it a lot better!

Looks like I was right! :oD
  • Angelia Bell

    Awesome!!
  • Joyce Zaro

Hi, Kathy! Thanks so much for the birthday wishes. Very sweet of you :)
Your post for students reminded me that I used to sit out in court in Santa Ana and also do mock court trials there when I went to Bryan - a LONG time ago! What a great opportunity for your students!
  • Dana Richardson

My first friend on CSR Nation, and it's to wish me happy birthday on my big 4-0. You made an impression on me, Kathy. Thanks. I started my life in Southern California, but now I live and report freelance in the Houston, Texas, area. It's great to have a CSR friend back home. Take care, Dana
  • Dana Richardson

30 minutes north of Houston. Unexpected day off today and beautiful weather. Why am I sitting at the computer? Still clearing the e-mail chore and then shutting down.
Have a great day, yourself. The baby...yes, my niece who lives in CA.

    Thanks Kathy! Sounds great!

Nice weekend. I'm back to work tomorrow on a good case and I'm already up too late. To answer your previous question. freelance in Houston is pretty good. I don't have much to compare with, but I stay busy enough to have to ask for time off. I've got to go unwind now. You have a great week, too! Dana

Kathy, just had to say hi when I read you have a Rev Grand.  I now have the Infinity Ergo, but I've kept my Grand because it still works so well.  It's my backup.  I take it with my on my jobs just for peace of mind.  If you are thinking about upgrading one day, I really, really recommend the IE.  I used my Grand for at least two years, and I was using a small Acer to write my notes to as a backup.  That's two computer to set up.  It got a bit ... old.  It's so nice now to have onboard audio and a few SD cards.  However, it certainly is one more business expense!  Are you coming to the DRA convention in two weeks?  Jason will be there, and I will be hanging out in the Infinity booth.  Would be nice to see you there!

  • Janet

Hi Kathy - Yes, I'm still selling the Stentura.  Are you interested?

  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

I just saw your comment!  I am still loving my split Infinity Ergo, but now they have a newer model out.  Email me at jenlug@pacbell.net and I'll tell you more when I can.  As a matter of fact, I just passed the CCRR on my Infinity Ergo a month ago.  California Certificate of Realtime Reporting.  I need to update my page here!
