I can't wait to hear how you like it!
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

Rhoda, I'll check out that online backup. I do have an external Maxtor, but I feel I need more. Thanks!
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

The Grand got delivered an hour ago - two days early! I'm still at my Mom's, but I'll be back tomorrow. Did yours arrive????
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

I'm about to see if Jason can help me do the extra shortening of the stroke. Once you adjust the bar thing, there is a further procedure. It's way too long for me coming off the LS! More later!
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

Rhoda, good info on my page from Stephanie about tweaking the Grand. If you have anything to add, please do! How's it going?
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

Such a good pic of the Grand. I love the black and gold - very regal! I'm getting ready today to really mess with the settings. Hope I don't wreck it while trying to attain that perfect light and shallow stroke. Have you taken it to a job yet?
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

Well, my tweaking may be delayed a bit. Right now it does work pretty well. I really need a hunk of time to do the big change of depth, and I'm running out today. I'll let you know how hard/easy it is to adjust it to my liking, though - for sure!
  • Kyung

Thanks for the birthday wishes. It's always nice.

What's happening with your Grand? I took mine on its second short depo today. I had to lengthen the stroke since the first depo. It felt okay, but it did still stack on the periods and commas. I'm going to try to lengthen it and lessen the sensitivity some more. I am using it totally pulled apart and tilted so my fingertips are down and my pinkies are tilted towards the floor a bit. Any advice/input???
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

Rhoda, I ordered the Grand today. Mica red like the loaner I've got. I only have one job this week - tomorrow - so I'm going to do a little bit of tweaking tonight. I've made the stroke pretty long and easy, but I'm missing the -T now and then. How's it going for you? No stacking or missing???
  • Jeannie Wright

Hi, Rhoda - don't know you, but I was intrigued by your photo and clicked on it - I love your photography (my daughter's hobby) and also went to your website - you are very, very talented! I really enjoyed looking at them!
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

Rhoda, How's it going??? I got my Grand on Friday and I've been tweaking and practicing ever since. Unfortunately, there are NO jobs scheduled for me this week! I guess I should have it tweaked to perfection by the time of my next depo, right? I've got it so the pods are really tilted now, just as if I was shaking hands. How are you positioning it these days? So curious!
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

Wow, that's totally not how I've got mine. It looks perfectly flat yet spread apart. Everyone needs something a little different, I guess. I may have mine tilted too much, but I'm still in the experimentation phase. I say whatever works! How's the stacking for you??? Gee, I wish I had a camera!
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

I can't believe you have not adjusted it yet, and that it is writing so well for you straight out of the box. I am very jealous. I just want to warn you that if you make it shorter, it may feel a bit harder for you to stroke. I shortened the stroke of the loaner when I first got it, and I ended up going back to a longer yet "easier" stroke. Maybe it's psychological, and maybe I will change it shorter later, but this feels much easier to write with. Also, when it was shorter, there was more stacking because the sensitivity window is shorter. Jason will have to explain that to you. It is a bit complicated. Please let me know how you like it, though.
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

Rhoda, I love that picture of your office you posted. The most necessary things in the room, in my opinion: the books and the latte!
  • Trudi O'Brien

    Hi Rhoda,
Wow, I love your page. Thanks for the info. I tend to second guess myself also, and will take your knowledge to heart when I go. Good luck to you.
    Trudi
  • Trudi O'Brien

Hi Rhoda, I'll keep you posted. I am taking the RPR and then after that the CSR which is the state exam for California. Luckily ours isn't on the same day. Good luck to you. You will do fine.

That's what I think of your latest photo!
  • Erica Abbott

Hey, Rho!! I just had a few minutes and decided to use it to look at your portfolio. My Goodness!!! You have taken some absolutley beautiful pictures! I am amazed.

    GO YOU!!!
  • Erica Abbott

Well, if you're pictures show anything, it's that you'll do great! From getting married last year, I know how hard it is to find a great photographer. They all want tons of money, but only a very few can take awesome pictures. I, myself, like telling a story with pictures and the artistic side with the odd angles, not just the "sit and pose" pictures. I will HAVE to post some of my other pictures from my wedding. I think you will really like them!

    Good luck!
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

I'm taking only my second depo today on my real Grand. This weekend I was able to eliminate virtually all stacking, and I adjusted those two force screws - one on each pod in the back. I turned them all the way to the right - I think - so the stroke is really, really soft and easy. Then I tweaked a few keys. I'll report back on how I do today, but I wondered if you had adjusted those screws on the back. They're right above the black rod the pods rotate on, and they don't look like they do anything - but they do! Hope you're doing great!
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

I just requested the book you recommended! I am next on the list, so by the time I get it, I should be finished with The Elegance of the Hedgehog. I am still tweaking the grand, and I am about to start again today on it. I am really happy that I turned those back screws all the way, as the stroke is really, really easy. The only problem with it is I am stacking a bit. On my last job of 35 pages, I probably stacked 10 times. That is way too many for me! I also have a problem with the iPAQ software, but Jason is working on that. Are you still writing with it as is? Haven't made many adjustments yet? How is your stacking these days?

Can you tell I have too much time on my hands right now? I mailed out my last job yesterday as work has been so, so slow. Next week should pick up, and it better!
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

Wow! So much work!!! Remember to stretch! You need to schedule a massage instead of picking up another book for a while, I'm thinking! I'm very envious of your work right now. Great news!
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

Yes, there are calls I can make. I also want to say I can do realtime now as I have the Stenocast system. From what I hear, it's slow all over. Truthfully, I'm afraid of having too much work for my elbows these days. So I'm glad and sad I don't have enough work. We'll see how my experts go next week. I'm bummed at the moment as I can't get my BT to work with the Grand. I'll load in Jason's BT now. I was planning on doing that two weeks ago anyway. Yes, take some nice walks with your cutie! Sounds great!

    glitter-graphics.com
    You cracked me up!
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

I don't have a camera, but they don't really look like regular screws. Do you see any small silver thing kind of suspended above the black area? Put the smallest screwdriver in there and turn. It's a silver something that the tiny screwdriver that we change the key sensitivities with fits into. What a convoluted sentence! Let me know when you figure it out.
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

Rhoda, This is RID/KLUS! They're not inside at all. They're outside, on the back in the middle of each pod above the black thing the pod spins on. They look like they're standing up maybe. My Grand is packed away downstairs. I think they're maybe an inch of stuff above them. In other words, they're down an inch or so from the top line of the Grand itself. Can you turn what you found? They won't fall out.
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

I apologize profusely! You have to take the top off to see them!!! I'm so, so sorry I didn't make that clear in my first post. I just went down and looked at mine - I took a long nap and now am sitting on the deck. It's still so warm out and 86 in the house! Please forgive me and take the tops off when you next have an opportunity!
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

I'm so glad you finally found them. I hope you do a little practice before you take that job to make sure you like it turned so far. I really do. Makes all the difference for me. Your job tomorrow sounds intense. I hope your translation turns out absolutely perfectly, and it was easy to stroke!
  • Erica Abbott

Hey, Rho:) I know what you mean by getting busier! I am super psyched about it though!!!!!! I would LOVE to get together very soon!! I go to SYR quite often, so feel free to give me a call or email me and let me know the next few possible times you could be free, then I'll check it against mine and we WILL figure this out;)
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

Rhoda, I hope all went well last night. My final T wasn't sensitive enough, darn it! I had to change a few no's to not's! I just now noticed that you don't have the wide left side asterisk key. Do you only use the right hand *? I use both. I put a call into depobook to make sure they can give me the correct pads.
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

I'm disappointed you couldn't tell a difference. It's so hard to describe a particular touch. I may try to shorten up my stroke a bit today since I have to adjust that -T. How did your hearing go? Are you happy with your sensitivities?
  • Heather

Rhoda, thanks for the congrats! I also took the RPR on Saturday and felt good about it.

I did get my Gemini. Here's my story and some pics of the modified vowel keys. http://www.csrnation.com/forum/topics/gemini-revolution-grand-first

Unfortunately, I waited until the night before to try hooking my Gemini up without the BT. Scrambled around looking for a mini usb cable and it ended up being bad. Went to Target but they only had an adapter style that made it hit the bracket.. so I had to use my 8000. WOW did it feel strange for the first five minutes or so. After about an hour practicing and then the tests, my wrist hurt! I just transcribed 8 hours of tape on my Gemini and it doesn't hurt at all! I LOVE it!

(edited to fix a typo in your name!)
  • Erica Abbott

What's your week look like!? :)
  • Erica Abbott

Hey, Rho:) I have been actually watching that thread. I, for some reason, am thinking of trying the LS first. It will be a couple months anyway, so I might think about it a little more. I know I plan on buying Mark's book this week I think too. So much stuff. lol.

I emailed my # to you in a prive message:) Hopefully we will work it out this week. lol!
  • Erica Abbott

Okay. So it is looking like a slooooow week:( But the good part of that is I think we can do it! What does tomorrow look like for you?
  • Erica Abbott

Okay, now I'm probably driving you nuts, how about Thurs or Friday??
  • Erica Abbott

Of course, Thursday might not work for me now. lmao. What the hell is wrong with us? We are so busy! i will write to you and let you know hopefully tomorrow
  • Erica Abbott

I don't think tomorrow is going to work out, Rho:( But maybe next week will be slower. I know it's the start of a holiday weekend, so I'm assuming not a lot of attorneys will be taking depos:) I will writer you on Friday and Maybe I'll have Monday off, seems how you said those are good for you!
  • Erica Abbott

lol. That sounds fantastic, Rho. I'll go pack my bags;) Your week sounds crazy next week. Do you usually do that kind of stuff every week? Good luck getting your nightmare depo done. I know how that feels sometimes, like you're just never going to make it through to the end. lol.

So are you full Tues and Thurs next week also, or may you have some time? lol
  • Erica Abbott

Well, hello:) I am actually writing this time to see if you could help me with a brief outline, seems how we learned the same theory.

I have all my briefs for I don't, I do not, etc. but I don't have any briefs that have the start I do, I did, I would, I could, I can. Do you have a brief outline for each of those?

Thanks, Rho! Hope the beginning of your busy week is going great!
  • Erica Abbott

I think we still learned something different. lol. I use the SPW for the contractions and the TPW for the do not, etc. I am thinking maybe if I do add th e * to teh SPW, I can change it to the positive; do, would, etc. I am trying to learn Mark's theory, but I am afraid those phrases starting with Y are going to conflict with my word endings where I attach them with Y. But then again, I guess if I learn the whole theory, I shouldn't be attaching anymore, they should all be about one stroke. lol.

Oh boy. It seems like sooo much, but I am determined to do it!
  • Erica Abbott

Well, that's great thinking, too!! I might steal that from you. What do you have for beginning "I do"? Anything?
  • Erica Abbott

haha. Sorry. I'm not very clear. lol. As in "I do have" "I did know" "I would have" etc.
  • Erica Abbott

I am thinking of using STPW and stacking those together to make the positives of those phrases. lol. I am going to experiment tomorrow and see what I come up with. Thanks for helping though. lol. I thought we learned phrases for that, but it was a few years ago. So I might have made that up;) lol
  • Erica Abbott

OKay.... so I'm supposed to be really slow this week:) You got any day at all?
  • Erica Abbott

Well hello there:) FL in a couple days! Bet you are psyched!! I just put some new pics of our wedding up. Thought you might be interested seems how you are Miss Photographer:)

I am going to get the Cannon Rebel XSI for my husband for Christmas and some classes. Have any opinions on that camera?

I am also extremely interested in starting a little wedding consultant business. I just absolutley love doing all that stuff, and I planned every aspect of mine to a T. Plus, I don't mind doing the projects myself to save someone money. That's what I did!
  • Linda Schumann

Awesome may be an understatement. I'm really just getting around to really exploring it and taking this study/career path serious. Was too taken up with closing out my career with Philips, healing a darned serious injury, and trying to make my fingers go where I want them to go on the stenowriter (I'm still working on the last 2!) It's thanks to you for recommending it...probably wouldn't have discovered it for a while.
  • Kyung

Just started a new group called Technolust. Come drool with us.

    Hi Rhoda,

I've been talking w/Jason about buying the Gemini Grand by itself or getting the Court PKg, with the computer-attachment. I'm going to be using Bridge to RT and I bought 2 Acer 11.6" Netbooks. I was thinking of just getting the machine alone and using Bluetooth to hook up to my laptop. But this machine has no backups. I would, though, have the job file and the backup file thru Eclipse on my laptop. Is your computer-attachment working ok or do they typically have problems? Veronica Kubat came over and showed me all of her equipment and said she did have problems with hers and even ended up getting a new one. There's a $1500 difference between buying just the machine or buying the pkg. I'm going to buy the Stenocast, too, and the flash drives for LiveNote(1) and Bridge (2). I also just bought an Olympus DS-40 digital voice recorder as an audio backup.
    This RT business is expensive!
Can I get your opinion, please, on the machine alone vs. the pkg.

    Thanks so much,

    April
