Hey, Julie. Welcome. How's life in Minnesota? Are reporters there independent contractors like in California, or are you employees? I'm always curious how things work in other states.

Hi, Julie. What are you doing to train for captioning? I would love to get into it, but it seems so scary! I have the Caption Accel. from Stenograph, and I get to play with it only once in a while. Last semester, I was captioning law school -- the hardest gig I have had so far -- and I have also done the computer classes and bio and chem classes, race relations classes and women's studies. I really like the CART, but next term looks really light on hours, so I may be forced to pick up deps, ugh! What I would really love is to get an employee position at a school for CART. Are you an employee or a freelancer?

Well, in Ohio, I was actually an employee. They took out taxes and offered health insurance. And they also pretty much forced you to go on depos when they needed you. But in California, I'm an independent contractor. And it's a lot more freedom.

So do you prefer court or depos?
