Just wondering opinions on which is "better." lol. I have Eclipse now, but have to be honest in saying I don't really know how to use a lot of the functions I don't think. I just kind of do my realtime for myself and then basic edit with an ascii after finishing it. What are the pros and cons of each?
THANKS A TON IN ADVANCE!

Now, where was I? Oh, yes. Scopists are your friends.
Okay. So where can I find these scopists? Why you can find them right here on CSRnation under the classifieds.
If you are on Eclipse, you can find them at the Advantage website.
The T3 website has a list of scopists

I have CaseCat8. I currently own a Toshiba Satellite Pro (6 years old) w/Windows 2000 XP, Pentium 4 that has served me well. Lately though when I insert a key memory stick, a box pops up saying my computer is too slow to support the stick. I want to stick with Toshiba because I've never had any problems, but now I know whatever I'm going to buy will have the new Windows (what's it called?) and not XP, so does anybody have any advice for what to buy or what to steer clear of? I'm planning on… Continue

I would like to extend my sincerest thanks to all those who expressed heart-felt concern over the tragedy that struck my country. There's no way to describe the way the storm wreaked havoc on the lives of my countrymen. It really warms my heart to know that there are people, even oceans away, who are there to lend their support in times of crisis. I really feel that CSRNation is a community where everyone feels at home. Even though I've been busy recently, I feel that I've never been away.… Continue

I successfully did it last week, but now I can't find my note file to transcribe & edit. I have CaseCat8. I connected my Stentura 8000 to my laptop using my USB cable to COM1 port. I clicked Read Notes. Great, okay, I see the window "Looking for writer"; found it, there is my file. Great. I click okay and I think it asked me to Append, Overwrite...and I chose Append. Don't know why, but I did. Whoosh, it's gone. Now when I chose to Translate & Edit, I can't find my file. I am sick… Continue

Philippines has been devastated by Typhoon Ondoy, much like New Orleans was devastated by Katrina. Manila and the surrounding areas hasn't been hit this hard in over 40 years. Most of the city, consisting of 15- to 18 million people is under water.

The United Nations had a visitor last week who is an acknowledged mass murderer and terrorist responsible for the deaths of thousands, including many students onboard the Lockerbee. His name is Moammar Khadafy, spelled many different ways, oil rich and a rambler par excellence. During his 96 minute torturous, no pun intended, speech, the official UN interpreter raised his hands imploring mercy and said, "I can't take it anymore!" His speech apparently was rather extemporaneous, including… Continue

Eclipse scopists and reporters-
At the Indiana Shorthand Reporters Association convention last weekend, I met a local (Indianapolis area) reporter who is also an Eclipse rep/trainer. I asked her about classes for the edit station, just to get more fluent in navigating using the Hyperkeys and Eclipse general editing Q&A. She is willing to put a class together if 4 or 5 folks are interested.
Here are the basics. The charge would be $50 a person for 3 hours, which I think… Continue

Our firm had a writer ten years ago who was on StenoCAT32 but is no longer w/the firm and we can't locate her. We have a transcript ordered that looks to have been completed on her software, but we can't get it open on any of our current software systems. Does anybody out there have any suggestions on how to get this file opened?

Got up at 3:00 a.m. yesterday, took a cab to the Austin airport, 6:30 flight to St. Louis, drove a rental car two and a half hours in the pouring rain to teach Eclipse software to some future court reporters in Southern Illinois. Usually when it's raining, students don't show up, but they were there.
At the end of my class, they presented me with a thank-you card that they'd all signed and a Starbucks gift card. I've been doing this sort of thing at schools near and far for free for… Continue

I need help. I am trying to decide if I should focus on becoming a Steno writer or Voice writer. I am also
trying to decide if I should train myself at home or take classes. Any information anyone could offer on these
programs you can buy to train yourself or if taking online schools are the better option would be so
appreciated. Also my goal is to be freelance so I don't know if Steno or Voice would benefit me more.… Continue

I am in the process of starting my business and just need to know the average rates for scoping, transcription, proofing and editing. Maybe someone can provide me with some pointers as well as a sample rate sheet with all these services broken down individually. I would also like some advice on software such as the most popular as well as where to buy used vs. new, etc. I am in the Birmingham, AL area. Thanks to all!

My daughter has been dreaming of getting a Mustang. She knows every body style of the Mustang from 1965 until now. She's getting her license next week, and I've been searching for a used car for her for a month. I kept trying to steer her away from Mustangs since they're more expensive. I kept showing her car after car, and she didn't like any of them. She finally got to the point where she was ready to get a Hyundai. We saw one yesterday, but the lot was closed. I planned to go there today to… Continue

30 years experience.
I also do your laundry.
Looking for clients who can look me in the eye and melt my heart. You also need to be a conscientious hard worker who makes me sooooo proud.
It helps if you've come from my womb, but that's not a deal breaker. :)

Scopists are here to make your life easier. There are good scopists out there and bad.
Scopists see all sorts of writers. Don't worry if your transcript is horrible, unless it is horrible on a consistent basis. Then worry. But seriously, scopists are not here to judge how good or bad a writer you are. If you are a truly horrible writer, they will either refuse to take work from you or charge you an arm an a leg.
I don't care what they say. Everyone has drops, except for… Continue

I have been trying for months (or longer) to resolve two stacking issues that keep
coming up over and over again, so I thought I'd ask the many experts on the Nation for help.
My brief for "that have" is tha-f. It endlessly comes out as "of that". The other one is "that had". My brief is tha-d. If I write "you mentioned that" in steno, it two-thirds of the time
comes out to be "you mention that had".
Any suggestions on different… Continue
