Thanks Keith for the birthday wishes. I had a great day ~ even though most of it was at school and in the evening at puppy training class.
I'm curious. You said your girlfriend is from Stockton. Born and raised? Still living here or in Bay Area? Did she go to school at Humphreys? I started at Humphreys until I ran out of loan money...and now i'm in qualifiers. My son is going to the test in October.
Sorry about loading you down with questions. Have a great day!
Hey Keith! How are things going with our WV/CSRNation busy bee? Can't believe school starts again in a couple of weeks. Can't wait! Hopefully by then I'll have added some music to my page...
Keith,
I really like your flsh crds for objections,
I use SKW for objection. and then the grounds
on the right side.
Objection. Asked and answered.
would be: SKW - AEPBD
Also, I write relevancy = RELZ
relevance = RELS
on the ground= OEUG
on the grounds = OEUGS
have you checked out Marla Williams' briefs?
she's got tons!!!
I love to share briefs and "I've got a million of 'em"!!
thanks for sharing the flash cards! great
practice medium!

Thanks again for the flash card link. I had both old theory briefs and new phrases in Excel, and it was so easy to upload them. When my new software arrives next week, I will use the flash cards to write all my new phrases into my dictionary. I have my daughter on it now reviewing addition/subtraction/multiplication tables. She starts third grade in nine days. These are so much better than the Barbie flash cards that the dog chewed up!
LOL. Thanks for the comment/s.Theodore says hello back to you as well! (: That is so awesome to hear about Tami. I met her at the NCRA conference with another student who absolutely loves her advice as well. Looks like you will be right up there with her at 280 soon, the rate you're going! That's great!
Thanks, Keith. It's a lot to process. Right now I am documenting, evaluating, and prioritizing the changes I intend to make. Then I will add them in little chunks. I would really appreciate a list. I just want to make sure everything I do now will be in synch with the final plan. I'm not using -TD or -SZ combinations; so I have had to alter some of the phrase endings you and others are using, but I have come up with comfortable forms that work for me.
I went back and looked at your briefing manifesto, and noticed you use YO/YA/YI (without the R). I can't imagine why I learned them with an "R" except that I only learned ~remember/~recall/~know as endings, and remember and recall have naturally occuring "R"s; so it may have been added for consistency. Again, this may cause one's head to explode. I also noticed the AO for "I do." I would still appreciate a couple examples of "do" and "do nots."
I guess this didn't turn out to be such a quick question after all.
Thank you, Keith. It doesn't matter to me that you are a student. Most teachers didn't make it to 180, and many people who write faster don't know as much about writing short. You seem to be a student/tutor of short writing, and that is what I need.
I picked up -FK, -FRP, and -FRPBLG from one of your earlier discussions. These are going well.
In school I was taught -NJ as "_ _ _ _ n" and back for final "j." Do not try to figure this one out, Keith, as your head may explode. I will now write -ng and -nj the same.
My -rf and -rve were handled by my theory. I just adopted FRPB for both -rch and -rsh with very few conflicts.
Your reference to "straining" indicates you add your -ing onto words ending in "n." What rules do you apply there?
Hi, Keith. I hadn't used my machine for the better part of a decade; so I am currently rebuilding speed. The concept of writing short was not one I had heard of until a few weeks ago. I decided now is the logical time for me to be tweaking my theory. I have noticed that you are a large presence in the brief discussions. Any interest in mentoring?
I am going to begin with a handful of the word endings that were not in my original theory (-SK/-MP/-RCH/-NCH). I am a little concerned about -NJ because there are quite a few conflicts. How do you handle that ending? The resulting conflicts?
Hi, Keith. My sister actually lives in Buckhannon!! I am a certified court reporter currently practicing in WV. I'm a mask reporter now. I'm taking Huntington Junior College's online steno classes to learn steno because I think it'll help me in the long run. It'll make transcript preparation time less, and it'll allow me to become realtime also. I use Stenoscribe now with voice recognition, but it is so unpredictable and I don't think I'd ever be able to do realtime this way. I think eventually everyone will need to be realtime to stay competitive. I have a friend who lives in Elkins who is also a mask reporter and taking Huntington Junior College's steno classes. I guess we just like to torture ourselves! LOL.
1. Sharing your Jury Charge briefs
2. Creating "Keith's Flash Cards" on flashcardmachine.com.
Isn't that site wonderful? It's a really great resource!
I'm sorry you didn't see my blog post about flashcardmachine.com earlier. I'm gonna work on my blog right now to somehow include the "Top Posts," so the frequented blog posts are easy to see and access.
I will be back to the office this monday. Give me a call(713-837-6595) at your earliest convenience and I will look into your problem. Hopefully we will ge to the bottom of it and see why the videos are not working.
Keith, bad news! I didn't pass it this time. I was over by 27 errors. I'm going to work my tail off and get it October 16th, the next test opportunity.
Thanks for thinking of me.
I've been sitting in in court this week. I LOVE it! The day goes by so quickly.
Thanks for the congrats on my passed Jury Charge! :) I wouldn't mind being the glad recipient of your Jury Charge briefs, though... I wouldn't mind at all! ;)
You're gonna for sure get out of 180 soon, I know it! We just gotta be diligent over our summer break too. I'm planning on studying HARD EVERY DAY... plus I'm going to sit-out with a handful of different court reporters! :) It'll be fun. I need 5 hours total, but I'm going to go beyond that just to see all the different kind of work out there... just waiting for us! :)
Thanks for the info on the music thing... gotta do that still...
Seriously, Keith! Such great info! And I like your little snide remarks in your Excel sheets... hahaha! Too funny! Man, I'm so going to use study your briefs like crazy! Seriously, thanks for being so nice to share all that info! May all the blessings come right back to you!
Thanks also for the tip on the music for my page. I'll try and fix it later, though. Not too big on my priority list. But when I do get around to it, could you suggest a website where I can get free MP3 downloads of songs, so it'll work for me?
Wow! Your school is stricter 'cause you guys have 4-voice. I think we start 4-voice at 180 or 200 WPM. It must take a longer time to pass through speed levels at your school 'cause of the 4-voice, but at least you know you all are REALLY READY for the real world! No pain no gain, right?
BTW, I found out that I DID pass my 160 Jury Charge! So I just gotta work on my Testimony now... which I will with your briefs!
Yeah, I think there's something definitely wrong with my page that won't allow music to play. I've tried several other songs besides Joss Stone's, and I just don't know what's wrong. Any suggestions?
How's school BTW? I just found out I passed my 160 Lit! WOO HOO! The error limit is 12, I marked 10 wrong, but my teacher only found 8! I'm so excited! I think I may have passed my Jury Charge too. I'll most likely find out tomorrow. If I did pass my JC, then I'm 2 for 3, and I only need to get rid of my Testimony! Which I hate! Hehehe. It's my bane! :p Therefore, I'm devoting the last 2 weeks of school to learning and putting into lifetime memory new Q&A briefs. Would you happen to have any good ones? :)

Tami Too
I guess this didn't turn out to be such a quick question after all.
Tami Too
I have a quick question for you: I am using the YOR/YAR/YIR components for "I don't __," "I can't __," and "I didn't __."
How do you phrase the positive responses, such as "I do __," "I can __," and "I did __"?
And what if the response is in the form of "I do not __," "I cannot __," or "I did not __"?
Thanks
Tami Too (Decided to cap the "Too" and stick with it since I will always have secondary or tertiary "Tami" status around here.)
