Michelle, I just read that you live in Ireland?? Well AFM is in the US, so check who your nearest service provider is, unless you can ship it back to Stenograph under the warranty.
Better late than never, Michelle! ;) My pleasure! I hope you had a great time celebrating your special day and that you have an awesome year ahead of you! ;)
Glad to know that you'll be on CSR Nation again... this website is the BEST!!! :D
I just got back from your country in July on vacation. It was beautiful and the people were so friendly. I did visit the Wicklow mountains, where you are from. I actually went to observe at the courthouse in Dublin but it was at the end of day, so I missed court. I thought it would be neat to see what court would be like there and watch the attorneys wearing their wigs! Do you mostly report court in Ireland? Do you report any pre-trial testimony? Do you cover the assignments in Europe yourself? I think that would be so exciting to go all over Europe court reporting. I did an assignment once in Germany. Case settled and I then toured Paris. Nice change from Atlanta, Georgia.
Yes, I had heard the witness was going to travel to Boston. I wish it had worked out the other way. One of the owners of the firm, Frank, is a CLVS, and he wasn't going to give that video away :-).
Lucky you to have gone as far as Aberdeen. Oh, my, I miss it more and more just thinking about it. Maybe soon :-)!
Michelle,
I just saw your post on "What's it like to report".....and read you were in Scotland in May. I know you're in Ireland. Did you take the ferry over or fly? What part of Scotland was the depo? I was born in Greenock and would give my eye teeth to get a job over there so I could go home for a bit.
BTW, when you were on holiday, I contacted Maeve. CR friends of mine in Boston have a depo in Ireland coming up and they need a reporter. The lawyers will pay for the videographer but not the reporter to travel. I hope they got a hold of you. I'm not sure if it has happened yet or not. If you want to e-mail them, it's Frank@DunnandGoudreau.com.
Hi Michelle,
an international group have always existed, however.. a major flaw of my last update is that I forgot to include it in the map!
wow... i will fix it when i get home.
Hi, Michelle. I wanted to introduce myself because I grew up in Ireland but moved to the US in '81 and haven't been back. I'm working as a freelance reporter in Southern California. It's pretty awesome to meet a court reporter from Ireland. Do you have any insight to offer about transitioning into captioning?
HI, Michelle. Apologies for not replying to you sooner. This is the first time in three months that I've checked my CSRnation page. It was wonderful to see your message. First, I have incredible admiration for any captioner - but for a captioner who writes the Olympics my admiration knows no bounds. Wow! Also, the gorgeous little one you're holding in your picture reminds me of my daughter, Rachel - same colouring. She's divine (your daughter). Anyway, thank you for contacting me. If you ever leave a comment for me and I don't answer immediately, please send me an alert at deborah.rogers6@bigpond.com and I'll get to my CSRnation page immediately. Very best wishes from me to you. Deb
Hello:) I just wanted to let you know that my husband and I are thinking of traveling in the next couple of years, so someday we may get to meet:) lol. Ireland is one of the very first places we want to go!!
Also, I see Brenda left you a message about the LS. Did you end up getting one? If so, do you like it? I am extremely interested in one. I have the Mira A3 right now and it's great, but I think I will love the feel of much less movement!
Hello fellow -- though apparently shifty -- European! Thank you for your encouraging message and offer of help :) Any tips are gratefully received - especially any which explain how to squeeze an extra 4 hours out of the day to practise in!! LOL
Hi, Michelle - lovely to hear from you. Yes, I captioned in Australia in 2002 & 2003 for The Australian Caption Centre. We lived in Killarney Heights in the Northern Beaches (my son is in French Immersion and we wanted him to continue. The only French programme was in Killarney Heights, so that's where we lived - it meant an unpleasant commute for me, though, especially when I had a shift starting at 5:00 a.m.!) It was a wonderful experience for us, though. I'm so pleased that you contacted me. It's lovely to hear from fellow captioners - we all seem to have interesting and varied experiences to share.
