I was wondering, how many freelance court reporters out there have a business license?

Do you know if the city you live in requires one?

Because, I think technically we are a home-based business.

Technically, I'm a consultant to several agencies, as well as pro tem. I don't worry about this one. But I would if I had my own clients.
No, I did that research a couple of decades ago when I was in another field entirely! As I recall, I used the IRS definition.

When I first started reporting, I looked at incorporating myself and didn't find it a worthwhile idea.
