It says it was approved by the governor on 9-17-12.  There are quite a few exceptions to the rule, as in expert witness, employment law, complex litigation.   I better figure out how to use my feature for counting the time on the record.

Wow, I didn't even know I had that feature in Eclipse.  I just found it.  Thank you!

In my experience, the time counter on Eclipse doesn't work that great - or didn't.  I haven't used it for a while because it was never right.  It might be topnotch now.  As far as limiting a dep to 7 hours, if you might be worried about that limiting your curtailing work for court reporters - don't.  When that 7-hour rule came into effect for most of my cases, we worried that work would be lessened.  It didn't happen.  Here's what happened.  When lawyers think they can go all day, they sometimes do.  When lawyers think they'll be cut off at 7 hours, they almost ALWAYS go the full 7 hours, right up to the last minute.  So, in fact, it's longer deps, at least in my experience.  One thing for sure, though, and that's that when they start to get uptight about the time, they WILL look to you to tell them how long they've been on the record if there's not a videographer.  (Videographers make it very easy - they always know the time on the record.)  I had a job last week, and the attys would all look to me at every break, say, "How long have we been on?" just as soon as we went off the record.  I finally told them, look, don't sit there and stare at me and wait for me to count up the time we've been on the record.  I can't do that that fast - I have other things to do down here (like writing down everything you-all say).  I'll give you the time we go on and off the record, and if you give me a chance to add it up, I will, but don't sit there staring at me waiting for me to croak out the time (I didn't say that, but that's what I said in other words).  They were good-natured about it all, but it's definitely good to have a system.  Maybe I'll try out Eclipse's time counting feature tomorrow just to check it out again.

Thanks for the heads up, M.A.  I will try the time counter and compare it to my count today to check the accuracy.  I've found that I get more pages now with the federal seven-hour rule.  It seems like everyone tries to jam two days of questioning into one.

I had a source code depo a couple of weeks ago.  It was so intense.  When they asked me for the time count at the end of the day,  I stared at the times I had written down like they were written in Greek.  I know I gave them the wrong count.  I then told them I'd give them a time-stamped transcript so they could do the calculation.

I hope the time counter in Eclipse will work.  I'm sure it's better than my math.

Two days ago I had the same issue but I just held up my iPhone and it had the correct time on the record and I didn't have to count a thing.  The font on the phone is huge and everyone could see it.  Sure saved me a lot of headaches from counting the time since there was no vid present.

How does the Eclipse time counter work?  I don't even know how to use it.  I use my iPhone stopwatch for the time.
