LegalZoom may be easy, but it is about $260.00.

It is to my advantage to get a tax ID number.

Anyone know of a cheaper way than through LegalZoom?

I got mine through the government (or maybe the IRS?) back in the '80s.   Ask your accountant.  They can tell you how to do it. As a matter of fact, I think my accountant might have been the one to apply for a tax ID for me, but that was over 20 years ago, so I don't know how it's done today.

I did it online through the IRS.gov website.  It took less than two minutes - and was free!!

Contact the IRS at 1-800-829-4933 and ask for an EIN (employer identification number). I did it by phone years ago. It's free and very easy/fast to do. Took only a couple minutes.

Oh, oops. I didn't read the comments and just saw that you answered your own question, Mary Jo. :)
