Target Free Museum Days

I don't know about you, but I've got a five-year-old and we're always looking for things to do on the weekends. We also like to exposure to things beyond Chuck E. Cheese. Both Bank of America and Target are sponsoring free museums days, so if you want to escape the heat and do something a little different, this a great way to see some art.

Getting on soap box - The economy is crap!! Funding is being cut across the nation for lots of different programs that enrich our lives and the lives of our children. Take a moment to enjoy these free activities while we still can. Getting off soapbox.

Today we're going to LACMA. All the exhibits are included. The only one not included is Pompeii, which is kind of ironic. When we were on vacay in San Diego last year, we went to the museums at Balboa Park, and Pompeii was also on exhibit there. That had a separate admission in SD as well. I guess we are doomed not to see Pompeii. Oh, well, I'm pleased to be able to get into LACMA. It's been years and it's a great museum.

I heard a story on NPR about how Schwarzenegger was looking at closing a bunch of state parks because they weren't making any money. My first thought was, what about all the people whose businesses and livelihoods depend on that tourism? Anyhow, there was a proposal brought out by some state congress person to add $15 onto vehicle registration, and to in turn let California vehicles into the parks free of charge. Reasonable to save all the jobs and beautiful, long conserved land, right?

Wrong...the tax was veto'd. I hate partisan politics. Regardless of whether you're a democrat or a republican, I think it's just so wrong to take the stance that you'll either never raise taxes or never concede to cuts of social programs. I get so aggravated every time I read a story about the state budget process.
