Out of the nearly $1.3 billion the Federal Government spends on printing every year, almost one-third -- $440 million -- is wasteful, according to a new report: Article on Greener Computing

There is a push now to use duplex printing within the Federal Government to save money and go green.

Is duplex printing something that can be incorporated within court reporting industry? I have noticed many court reporting companies today are going green. In fact, some of the members of CSRnation are some of those court reporting companies.

Of course, one way to save cost and go green would be to replace the hard-copy transcript and only offer an electronic transcript, but would judges and attorneys across the nation be happy with this method?

So, duplex priting and/or electronic transcripts, what do you think? Is this a viable option for the court reporting industry? Could legal proceedings, whether a deposition or a court trial, be printed on both sides of the page with a duplex printer to save money and trees? Can hard-copy transcripts be replaced with electronic versions only?

I guess I am trying to figure out the pros and cons of having that hard-copy transcript in this electronic age. With the push to go green, I can see room for improvement when it comes to the hard-copy transcript.

I've noticed more and more that exhibits are two-sided. I hope the transcripts go straight to electronic and not double-sided, like the minis are. I would prefer to have everything electronic, transcripts, exhibits. I hope it does happen in the not-too-distant future.
