speeding up audio/video in Windows Media Player...

Somebody at school showed me a while back that you can speedup the playback of audio in Windows Media Player, and I've been loving it for practicing the same dictation at different speeds (Now playing->enhancements->play speed settings).

However, if I use this feature with an video file, the audio drops out completely. I'm thinking I might be missing a codec of some sort, but after poking around on some Microsoft sites, I've come up empty handed for updates.

Has anybody had a similar issue? Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated!
