Welcome to CSR Nation
I know most of you don't want to hear this. I like my Stenoram II so much, I bought a second one on ebay for $80.00. I have it set up in my office. I made it a paperless writer. For anyone who does not want to spend $XXX for the real thing, this will work.
See the two pictures. Take off the clip and the screws. Adjust the white wheel until you have minimum stroking on the top level.
Once you have connected the Stenoram II to a laptop with your software, you have a pretty nice setup. I have knocked my Stenoram over several times, and it will works.
Keep in mind, your metal arms (see the metal between the white wheel and my number bar. One end holds my plastic keys I touch, and the other is to the writer stuff). The top level will practically have no stroke depth (they are short). The next level will be more stroke depth. The third level AOEU will have more. Becuse these are three different lengths, you will not get the exact same stroke depth for each row (short - long- longer).
