Actual word count v standard word count

Hi, quick question - as a student starting off should I work with actual word count or standard word count? I'm not sure which the RPR is based on but I'm guessing it's actual. The student book uses standard but the teachers version uses actual as far as I know. If anyone could point me in the right direction that w0uld be great! Thanks :)
