I'm on Eclipse. I've used StenoCAT and Case CATalyst before in the past and finally made the switch to Eclipse. It's not the easiest to learn, but it's well worth it. It's the smartest, most useful software out there, in my opinion.

I know other reporters who love the LightSpeed and the other popular machines. Just try a few out, see what you like. Get some manufacturers to come to your school and give a demo. Or maybe they'd let you write on it for a week or so. You never know.

Nag alert: Read below if you like to be nagged.

Always keep your software and steno machine support current. It's costly - about $1200/yr for both - but worth it.

And congrats on getting to 180!! The finish line is just around the corner. Keep it up.

Thank you, Marla. What software do you use?

Hi, Rachel. I love the Stylus because it's lightweight, connects to your laptop via Bluetooth, records audio, and is supereasy to use. I've had some issues with the Bluetooth dongles that ProCAT sells to use with your laptop, but it's been a great machine other than that.

Hello! I am looking to purchase a gently used ProCAT Stylus, and I was wondering if anybody had any advice for me? How do you like your machines? Would you recommend it? Any advice is appreciated! I am currently a student in the 180 class.

Has anyone had problems getting realtime commands using StenoCAT 32 to translate properly on the Stylus? I just purchased a new Stylus and am very frustrated that even tech. support doesn't seem to know why my realtime commands don't work for money, time, etc. My parentheticals don't translate properly (i.e., centered and in parentheses). Tech support seems mystified, although I was assured before buying the writer that it would be compatible with StenoCAT 32. So far, it isn't. Any suggestions?

Does anybody know how to turn off the Realtime hold feature once it has been activated? My machine went into RT hold because of low battery. AFter i plugged it in, I could not get it off hold. I eventually had to shutdown and restart from fresh, but there has to be an easier way.

I just bought a used Stylus. It has the 512 mb cf card and I want to update to the 2gb cf card. Will I have to "update" the writer with Procat tech support before I can do this? I bought a Sandisk Ultra 2gb cf card (not from Procat) and it didn't work. That's why I'm asking.

CSI, this group is just for the Stylus steno machine, which is made by ProCAT. I recommend posting your question in the ProCAT group. Click here.

I'm working with a reporter trying to get a Mira programmed up and
ready to go in her Procat and can't get it to working. It's using
Mira with a USB cable. Know anybody that can help? She does not have support . Thanks, Julie

well, called support, and apparently martel mics are not stereo but mono...that surprises me...so he said an adapter to make it into a stereo mic should fix the problem....
