Laughter at (not with) me; feeling bad for me (no friends; just occasional people who feel bad for me); crying (about me) -- all things I've grown accustomed to.

You are right about what my reaction would probably be.

(Just a quick true story to interject.

In the late 1950's, there was a state democratic convention in Albany, NY.

One of the attendees got great joy out of stepping on a dog's tail at the convention to which the dog responded by passing gas.

Well, the same characther took a dislike to another attendee who was very drunk, and acting inappropriately.

So, on one of the convention days, the drunk fell asleep. Well, my freind knew an udertaker. They had a cheap wood box hurriedly delivered.

And he knew a pianist, who he summoned.

They put the drunk in the casket, on top of a concert piano, and started to play a dirge. Poor guy suddenly sat up, looked around, and passed back out in the box on top of the piano with the dirges still being played).

What's bad in my case is my visual presentation does not match what people expect. My written presentation does not match what is expected. And my vocal presentation (my voice is very unique) in terms of words is not the same as most others, nor does it match what is expected.

People generally think I'm a crazy, or a drunk, or a drug addict. They don't listen to me, even if they've never seen me.

Most people can't be bothered with me. They don't care; they have theirs, and who cares if I have anything at all.

I care a lot. I always try to do the right thing (as it were). I try to find answers and solutions, or at least get information and try to formulate the right questions.

Trust me; it's hard being me...

Very interesting Gary. I don't know whether to laugh or to feel bad for you! You seem too interesting though to fill any of those drab positions. I would picture you sitting up in the coffin and saying something like, "That's not how it was at all. It was like.........."

Keith,

I like your sense of humor.

I have another allusion to the idea of me as bodyguard. Think of me as a bullet proof vest. You sort of hold me up in front of you, and I act as your shield.

Then again, I've known many who say that with my personality, I would have made a great undertaker, pallbearer, hearse driver, or grave digger.

One person I knew for a long time thought the ideal job for me would be "laying in." That is, you know, someone dies and looks so bad due to illness or accident, I would lay in for them in the funeral home or place of worship until it was time to actually bury them. Of course, I'd have to be prepared for people seeing me and saying how bad a job the undertaker did, and people passing out from my natural good looks. And I'd have to move every once in a while or I'd be buried.

Plus, I'd have to return whatever clothes I wore on the job to their rightful owner (the funeral parlor) or they'd get upset.

Such is life.

Welcome to new members, Gary and Kurt! I am no longer the only guy around here! Now I have a couple bodyguards that can help me not get into discussions about fashion or shopping or any other thing that I would have no knowledge or expertise in whatsoever.

Hi Keith, Glad that we have this group. I've been in Theory since Feb '09. about 1/2 way through. Getting some practice in every day during the break has helped.

Marcie Walsh is lurking around somewhere. Where the heck is she? For any of you who are not on vacation and are perusing this great site, make sure to check out my post above on the discussion forum about digital flashcards. OMG, they are so helpful! I really wish I had found the site back when I was in theory or the low speeds! Merry Christmas! Hehe.
