Rhoda, I would love to know how Dragon Naturally speaking helps with editing...saw your posts under Ergonomics...and I think it sounds like very time-saving investment.
Thank you for that information, I was floored, Staples is great! I appreciate taht advice; Wow, those Parole board in New York must be interesting...well, Have a great day, stay warm up there!
Thanks, Rhoda,
I know a couple of retired reporters in Naples. I'd live on that coast if it were possible. I love it over on the Gulf.
And I see your note here about the Dragon program. I read that post the other day -- you're using it for email and stuff only or are you using it to edit also?
Thanks for the friend invite :).
Michelle
PS, I'm originally from New York, myself - lol. Don't want to shovel my way to the courthouse though so I wouldn't live quite that far north anymore. Maybe NC or thereabouts.
Oh heavens no, not me! This picture is from a site I found with the most beautiful pictures. This was from 1943 by Horst P. Horst. Here's the link http://community.livejournal.com/bygonefashion/17340.html
They make gorgeous page backgrounds. :)
Hi Rhoda, I'm a student in the 200s. Can you tell me a little more about the offline captioning with Audio Sync? This is the first I'm hearing of it. Thanks Kim
Love the photograph!
Thank you Rhoda. I'm counting on LOVING court reporting. But I must say, I am nervous about the first job on my own. I guess everyone is. I bought my four suits and one white shirt today. My graduation is Tuesday, Feb 5, and then I start my externship. That's supposed to take about a month, and then I'm off to the races! Can't wait! Thanks again.
Hi, Rhoda. All still going well with the Revo? I'm sitting on the fence about ordering one. I've been on a trial with the Lightspeed for a few weeks. It's improved from when I first got it, but I think it just may not be right for me. Just not enough key travel for me. I'm okay when things are slow, but when it gets fast, that's when it seems to be an issue. Guess I may be in the minority, since so many are raving about it. The ergo benefits are what interest me about the Revo. There were just so many complaints about Geminis on the past models up to the Piper that I was leery. Does the Revo seem to be better quality? You stated stacking didn't seem to be a major issue? Is the keyboard action a big improvement over your squared model? Sorry so many Q's. I just don't want to get it and be disappointed as I was with the LS. Those darn restocking fees are gonna kill me! I'm currently on a Cybra after being on a Stentura 8000.
Hope all went well on Day 3.
Shawn
Rhoda, thanks for your quick response. You did well in answering my questions. I guess I'll just have to try it. As you send, a machine is very personal to all of us. You really nailed it down when you said we're all searching for that perfect machine. I guess the biggest Q of all for me is some reporters said that the Gem just wasn't reliable, that some days it wouldn't power on or work right. Several stated it would write gibberish sometimes, that what they were keying wasn't what was coming up. I don't think I could manage with that happening. All of those negative comments are on accucap.com, doing a forum search for Gemini. Oh, which reminds me of one more important Q on my list. The noise factor. So many said the older models were quite noisy. What about the Revo? Maybe with that light touch you're mentioning, it's minimal? I think I would love the light touch and the fact that you can set the depth to a minimum, but still adjust to the preferred amount of key travel. I'm ready to ship my LS back to Stenovations today. Maybe we should just exchange machines so we can try them both...LOL!
This afternoon my massage therapist asked me when I was going to upgrade to the Rev. She helped me adjust the Piper to the right height, etc. I said I was waiting for more info from you and CW. I just read your Q and A with Shawn - very informative!
Yesterday I reported a depo that went from 1:00 to 5:40. It was extrememly fast. With my Stentura 6000LX I think I had three stacks. Normally I don't have any. Have you practiced writing some superfast talk with the Rev yet? I would love to hear your feedback after reporting some RMR tapes. If you don't have any, I can email you a wav or two. It sure sounds likes it's going well for you so far, though!
Gorgeous pic, btw - I would never have known about the water! My husband used to be a photographer. I helped him with a big wedding once in SF. I really enjoyed making sure everyone looked just right. "Men, put your arms down! What are you hiding???"
By George, I think I got it pasted... Yeah, that's it for me on the LS. Shipped it back yesterday. I figured I could sink another couple weeks into it, and then still send it away. Guess I should have called the first for an RSA # or something, but didn't say anything about that on their site regarding the trial period. Guess I didn't want to be talked into giving it more time, not that they would have tried to convince me. Well, the Revo. is sounding much improved and maybe the one for me. Thanks so much for all your discussion. One reporter had commented that it was still a bit noisy in the beginning because of some design with the plastic or something that they were resolving. Yours must have been after they made that change. Guess it was when one would quickly lift off multiple keys when things got fast. I think it will be an improvement over my Cybra, though, which has always seemed like a clunky manual machine to me personally. My Stentura used to get loud, so I had figured out how to oil it on my own. Had that baby smoooooth, so guess I was a bit spoiled after figuring out how to tweak it.
Doing e-mails on the machine? Now you're getting techy:)
Was wondering what your experiences were with the offline captioning, what the protocol was and compensation. I'm currently doing offline transcription for another company doing realtime. Guess they utilize the time stamps to synch to video presentations.
Thanks for keeping us posted on the Revo developments. And yes, that's a great Madonna-inspired photo! Very cool.
The stupid thing is I did get a demo from Jason, but I only did a CRR tape! We were pushed for time, and someone had knocked over the Rev the day before, so he spent time adjusting for that and for the keys. When I first started writing there were many missing letters. That did get cured, but I never gave it a speed test. Have you tried writing to a 225 Q & A at all? I have several of those if you want to try. Not that I'm being pushy or anything ...
Gee, no pressure! I'm working on a long rush myself. I should be having fun today as I'm by myself - but no, just wading through this depo - with more to follow. At least I'm getting a few chores done while I sit here - like laundry, washing makeup brushes, dishes, eating donuts - whoops! I confess I just took a break and had coffee with ice cream and a donut. Well, something has to help me along, right???
You're making me want another bowl of ice cream! Last night we watched America's Test Kitchen where they made Chocolate Pots de Creme, kind of like a creme brulee without the yummy top. Really made me crave the chocolate. We keep watching those cooking shows but then never cook! Got Chinese take-out yesterday. Enough for two more days. Had it for breakfast. I hope I'm not the only one doing that!
Before every depo I make myself a huge breakfast of two eggs with pepper jack cheese, some broccoli coleslaw, all thrown on top of one broken matzo cracker, tortilla chips or whole wheat bread. I have my coffee about a half an hour before while sitting on my bed reading through six CR forums! If I didn't have the big breakfast, I'd never make it off the mountain!
I just heard last night from my friend with the Rev. Has she been in touch with you? She's been having some trouble with the tablet. I'm wondering how you are doing with it these days. I sure hope it keeps getting better and better. There are several others now just waiting to hear something that will make us all get off the fence and get one.
Wonderful website, Woda! Have you entered any competitions with some of those shots? I especially loved the baby closeup and the little girl sitting on the stool - I think it was - with the cap on her head. I sure wish you luck with your "fun" career. I know from my husband's experience how hard it can be. When I have more time, I'll go through the rest of your portfolio.
