I haven't checked my email yet. I hate my email. I always have hundreds to float through and get that drowning feeling. :)
I am off work, though. Supposed to go in tomorrow and Friday, and then I'm hoping to be off all next week. Still need to get a doc's note for my little one.
I have a two-day-a-week-off-work order, as needed, due to his special needs. I need to get that kicked up to five days a week for the time that he's out of school. My kids go back on the 13th. Doc has no trouble signing it, but I need to go to the pediatrician, and we've just been doing mostly specialists.
Today we had an appt. an hour away. He had to eat an egg sandwich, and then they took x-rays of his stomach on the hour for three straight hours. Quite a fiasco. Of course everything looked perfect.
He's still only 32 pounds. On occasion he'll get up to 33. He's seven years old and the size of a two or three year old -- weight-wise, and he's as tall as the average seven YAOERLD. I'm sure you saw the pics of him in Maui. He's such a doll baby.
Anyway, glad that test is over. It was grueling.
I'll try to get to my mail before the end of the day.
My theory has a right-side alphabet and review I made R-W; window - W-W; power - P-W; etc. -FRP is our W and I know it conflicts w/other theories. I also took my -ship words to one stroke....L-P/leadership, FR-P/friendship; R-P/relationship; etc.
I am working on going to Mark K's years in one stroke...still have to drill those some more, lol. I had one stroke for 2000-2009, but get hesitant on my ones for higher years, so decided to try to go to his.
Hi Jenny ~ I actually did get the update and then only have had one job since ~ it was a construction case with an atty I've never worked w/ before who was pretty fast w/ tons of new terms for me ~ SOOO I couldn't really tell. It did seem like less weirdness as far as strokes go ~ I'm excited to really get back on it in January. I think I'm going to set it up this weekend and just do some practice dictation to play around. I'm definitely keeping it, though:)
Did you put pads on the keys? I never had pads on my Flash writer and do on the LS ~ I was wondering if that was contributing to my sloppiness?? As frustrated as I've been, I actually like the challenge of watching my tran rate get better (or at least up to what it was ~ fingers crossed ;))
Have a great night tonight too ~ nothing too exciting for us. Dinner and games w/ some friends and celebrating the east coast time ~ we'll probably be home in bed by 11 :)
Happy 2009!
Stacy
Jenny,
So my first thought is: "You're workin' waaaay too hard, Girl!" But then my second thought is: "At least you're workin'!" considering I only worked 4 DAYS this month! UGH! Hopefully the new year will bring more work my way! As for pics, I got a cute one of my "baby" dog by the tree I'll post now. :)
I'll try to get one out tonight. I'm on my way out grocery shopping and I have about 20 loads of laundry. I swear everyone dumped on me at once. It all of a sudden turned into a HUGE mess.
Got to share this funny story.
Clay calls me at work yesterday in his sweetest voice and tells me he can't find sheets that fit his queen bed. Told me for the new year he was trying to start fresh and clean and get his room all squared away.
"Well, Clay, what happened to the dirty ones you pulled off of it???
"Oh, I thought you might say that.
"You know that room right down the hall from yours, it has this thing called a 'wash machine' . . .
"Oh, I thought you might say that."
HA!!!!
I don't know who coined me the Queen of Wash, but guess it's my own dang fault. :)
Hey, Jenny. Thanks for your response. Yes,I sent Michelle a suggestion and the link for her to register on on this site.
I see your photos, nice. Be careful putting your laptop on a pillow! They need to breah and can overheat quickly! Place something hard like a book or tray or something in betw the laptop and the pillow.
What is the CC seating charge on "depoman" that you were talking about? Sounds interesting.
Cindy
I appreciate your modesty is passing the CRR, but you have my admiration! Way to go, girl! So many reporters in Florida still don't get it! I'm trying, but it's hard when I spend so much time running my small agency.
Figured you knew better with the pillow and laptop, but just in case. I do go on Depoman occasionally. But I take it the thing you were talking about is in the post labeled "open love letter. .. " I'll check it out.
BTW, thanks for the positive comments about Florida. I was born here and love it. Unfortuantely the politicans are ruining it. No one is going to be able to retire here. I was hoping to retire in about 10 years, but by then my entire SS check will be taken up by taxes and homeowners insurance. I have come to the sad realization that I cannot retire here. Don't know where I'm going to go! Hey, BTW, I see you're from California. I have an old, very old magazine called "Spy Magagzine" with a nude picture of your governor. Can you believe it? 1992. Probably could get a lot of money for that.
You're the kind of reporter who will still be working 10, 20 years from now. The "average" reporter will be shocked to learn that there are less and less jobs out there as time goes by. Times are changing and the average reporter is not changing with the times - at least here in Florida. I've been begging my reporters to become real time since '96 - falls on deaf ears. . BTW, the proofreader, Michelle, just joined.
Love the second picture, Jenny!! I'm the same way, when I open up Eclipse it makes me smile to see my picture on there!!
Just noticed that you went to OCCR. I also went there from 1991 to 1993, I think (I'm so bad w/ remembering dates) ~ I left right when there was financial trouble in the air and before they closed and then finished my last qualifier at Trinity College in SF. Small world.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Just a couple questions for you. Do you use a pedal when you are editing in Eclipse? Do you see a big difference in Eclipse? I've heard so many reporters say that it made them look like a much better writer. What do you think? Still undecided about this crazy software. I really don't know how much I'm going to be making when I first start. I'm not sure what the job market is going to be like. I definitely want the CRR to be my next goal after the RPR. I don't want to buy the StenoCat Software for $1000 and then decide in a year that I want to go with Eclipse. Give me some feed back. :) LOL
Thanks for the very nice welcome. In looking at your pics, I was shocked to see your orange & white kitty is a ringer for my 26-pound Carmen. Adopted him when his owner moved out and left him.
I talked to Procat on Wed., and my support is up on the 18th of the month. I am about 90% sure I'm not going to renew and wait and go on Eclipse. Though I might not do that right away.
Clay's B-day isn't tomorrow. Silly boy. It's Feb. 5. I'm looking at the B-day notices on your page. :)
Hope you had a great New Year weekend!!
Oh, I just saw Lisa's "Happy New Year." I love that!
Well, I might as well butt in, too, since Lisa has. :)
I'm glad I did the CRR first because that really is the one I wanted and the whole purpose of going back and getting the RPR, and since it took me three times to pass the written on the RMR, I'm really glad I did them in that order.
See, I really am slow, Jenny. :)
Oh, and I thought the RMR was so much tougher than the CRR. The RMR is just a grueling day -- kind of like a speed contest.
The CRR, you warm up for a bit, and then you're off the rest of the day.
No, I meant that odd little table you were eating on with the blue tablecloth.
Eclipse is still in the box, unfortunately. I really have to get on that. Attorneys are laughing at my equipment, and I defend myself by saying, "If it's not broke, don't fix it," but that doesn't carry any weight in this hi-tech world.
Work is slow here. How's it down there? I might have to start commuting to court somewhere. Of course, it is January.
Glad you had a great Christmas! I had my grandson and his daddy here, so I had to take care of both kids. We played a lot...a lot! Hahaha!
Well, I'm just about ready to start on it, but I do need to talk to Eclipse about the updates, dictionary, etc. And then I'm going to need a new firewall, and blah, blah, blah...hahaha! It was one of my New Year's resolutions, you know!
So I took off the pads yesterday and I'm very excited!! I practiced at home and it's so much better. I love it!! I never used pads before so I'm still kinda dumbfounded that I put the pads on in the first place. Now I need to take an actual job to test it!! I'm thinking that I'll leave it bare, but we'll see. If anything, the leather you mentioned sounds the best. Thank you for all you help!!
I'm sending you good job vibes!! That sucks when you show up for 8 pgs when you want pages. I hope you get a good minimum at least. I do have an RPR CD I'll have to dig up. I had a 180 2-voice on my computer that I tried, but I do need to step it up before a job. Wouldn't it be nice if all jobs went a smooth 180 ;) I'm not working today or tomorrow (yet) but next week my first job is with a speedy guy but on a case I've been on. I figure that if I could do it with the pads, I'll survive without:). I just hope it's neater!!
Hey, Jenny ~ you know, if you have any CRR wav files lying/laying ;)) around, I would love to hear/practice with one. That's my next goal ~ get really great on the LS and pass the CRR. I haven't looked into it yet or listened to any of it so I would love to hear a sample ~ thanks. I'll have to order some soon! I REALLY need to practice putting in punctuation. I"m so lazy w/ that. Sometimes I do ~ sometimes I don't ~ even when it's slow!?!? Just a bad habit I got into and need to change!
HI Jenny ~ yes, they came through!! I didn't do anything to my email ~ they showed up in my inbox!! Thank you so much.
Are you giong to the DRA convention in Feb? I'm making my plans right now. I would love to really "meet" you :)
So I'm not sure?? I think it was youconvertit. I was able to download the wav file into a folder on my computer and listen to it. I got 5 emails, but there were 4 attachments b/c one had the same was file attached.
I just checked my email and I thought I put all of them in a reporting folder I have and I must have sent them to trash and my trash emptied last night ~ arghh!! So I can't look at them, but I do have the files saved and usable on my computer! (In case you can't tell, I'm not all that computer savvy ;)
So the DRA is the Deposition Reporter Association in CA. They have two conventions a year. This one is in Feb. at Newport Beach. The website is caldra.org if you want to check it out. We would love to have you as a member!! It's a great resource and I know many great reporters who are on the board and always there to help and/or answers questions. They're really great advocates and are very involved w/ CA legislature in keeping pride in our profession. One of my friends is running a brief section at the convention and she told me last night that I was sitting in w/ her and helping ~ thank goodness for CSRnation's brief section for some great tips!! This is my first convention ~ I've never been able to swing it w/ my kids and their schedules ~ I'm very excited!!
I would love to see you there if it works for your schedule!
"Last night around 3:30 when I woke up - one of many times - I had what I believe was a song from your page stuck in my head! Yep- just tested it out. The Frank Mills. Thanks a lot!!!"
Hi Jenny, I hope you had a very happy holiday! We do have to get together again sometime soon. So, has your Quicken 2007 for Dummies been helpful? I surely hope so. I wish I was a better teacher or had more time to sit with you. Yes, tons of scoping lately. I just got back from Chicago. It was two weeks of a good family visit and really cold weather. All my best, Dawn.
Not yet. lol Oooh! Nice picture No. 1. Did you just put that on? I don't remember seeing that one before. Very pretty. No, it's been a very busy week for me. I haven't even been able to practice the way I've wanted to. Been helping my husband with the end of the year stuff. Thanks for thinking of me though. I'm going to try to do it this week.
I did a search for antivirus on Depoman, and came up with this post. Liz Beardlow (sp) says the two programs she mentions in the thread have replaced Adaware and Spybot.
I normally run AVG, but I hear that's been giving people problems, so everyone is migrating to other freeware antivirus software ... and, of course, even the professional techs say to avoid Norton like the plague! :o)
Not sure what they DO recommend, but I bet Candis knows.
I do like to use Virus Total for those 'suspicious' files that I sometimes end up with.
Basically, you go to the website, use the buttons on there to upload the file from your computer to their servers, wait a few minutes, and they'll bounce it against a whole bunch of computers running AV software ... then they'll give you a report on what each of them finds. Very nice!
Hope that helps a bit ... and hope you enjoy your new laptop!
You know, you left the other half of the cookie here! Did you mean to do that?I hate to tell you, but I actually threw it away as soon as I noticed it!. Cookies AND cake is a dangerous combination for someone who is barely moving!
Oh, man! I forgot! Well, it's too late now. Not only did I throw it away, but I took it out of the bag and threw stuff on top of it, because I thought I might just reach in and grab it if it was just in the bag!
Bob just walked in and I told him what you wrote. He says he's happy to have an advocate in you!
