I see from your "home" page that you're on Case Catalyst. I won't be able to help you there, since I'm on ProCAT Winner XP. But, I can help with regard to transcript style (altho I don't know much about California's requirements, I don't think they're that far from NYS's.
What point are you at in your studies? What speed? What theory are you learning?
In my answers to your questions I made an error, starting salary for reporters for the position of Court Reporter I is $60,000.
Court Reporter II is Supreme Court, and the starting salary is somewhat more, but I don't know what the amount is.
There's also a position called Hearing Reporter, which eals with, among other things, workers' comp cases. I believe the starting salary there is less than the $60G.
There's also grand jury reporter, which I believe is a county position, not a state position. I have no idea what the starting salary is for that. And, it would vary from county to county.
Wow! You joined on June 24; how did I find you so quickly? Some force must have driven me to you. Anyhow, before I go any further, I must ask if you think I am worthy enough to be your friend. Please view my site and especially my student friends and see all the advice I've given them. I hope you know how to do that. I don't really like to repeat. I'll clarify and expound, but you see, I type diatribes and you'll see. I expect them to be shared with all in the same or similar position, and that position now is "student". After reading a little about me, you'll understand a whole lot more. Some of my favorite and most thankful students are Javari, Nicolette, & you find the others. Then tell me what you think, okay? I am here for you. Until we meet again, Michael
P.S. -- the annual CCRA convention will be in Anaheim July 24-27; will you be there or drop in to say hello. Spend a day there and see what it's all about. This is your future career. Meet your colleagues. Oh, well, let me stop the rambling, but from one 20-year veteran reporter to a student: Welcome and have fun.
I g raduated from a now-defunct court reporting school in NYC, in 1969; I had my RPR but let it lapse this year because I didn't wanna spend the money on the conventions to maintain the CEUs (and it's not that important to me).
Since it is so close, sign up for the NCRA convention student seminar. You will not regret it. The cost is nominal and they actually refund part of the fee. Many students also "won" gift certificates to the vendors there. Think my son received a $40 cert. from Stenograph.
You'll see what a wonderful profession you've chosen. Plus it's at Disneyland, right?? The happiest place on earth!
Oh, and the day after I took the CSR, I lived on a boat in Oceanside Harbor for three months. I was only 20 years old. It was so great to get away from all the stress of being in CR school and just kicking back for a few months. Of course as soon as I got my pass results, I have never looked back,
My kids' grandma lives in Carlsbad, right next to Oceanside, so we go down from time to time. It really is a beautiful place. Glad you're enjoying it.
If you've just finished theory, May of '09 is a heck of a goal, but . . . I like to see goals that push you rather than none at all.
You do need a CA CSR to work in CA. Don't know how long you're expecting to be in CA, but that cert. carries a lot of weight nationwide. Some states you will need their state test and many you don't even need a RPR.
I actually created an account on here a few months ago but never really had time to spend on here because of school and work. Life after graduation is alright so far. The training is pretty intense so far, but my boss says I will be out on my own in a few weeks.. how exciting!
When did you get married?! When did you move to Cali?! Lol fill me in!
