Did you know Mark Kislingbury is coming to San Diego in April??
You're so close. I'm sure it will be such an awesome experience for you. Since you're an online student, it also would probably be great to get out and see your future colleagues.
He just extended a $50 group rate to students for his Sacramento bootcamp today. If you decide to go, I'm sure I can direct you to a group of students going from one of the local schools. All you'll need to know when you sign up is the group name.
If you want more information, go to his website, Magnumsteno.com.
Anyway, I hope to see you there.
When did you get married?! When did you move to Cali?! Lol fill me in!
My kids' grandma lives in Carlsbad, right next to Oceanside, so we go down from time to time. It really is a beautiful place. Glad you're enjoying it.
If you've just finished theory, May of '09 is a heck of a goal, but . . . I like to see goals that push you rather than none at all.
You do need a CA CSR to work in CA. Don't know how long you're expecting to be in CA, but that cert. carries a lot of weight nationwide. Some states you will need their state test and many you don't even need a RPR.
I wish you the best!
You so look born and raised in So. Cal!!
Since it is so close, sign up for the NCRA convention student seminar. You will not regret it. The cost is nominal and they actually refund part of the fee. Many students also "won" gift certificates to the vendors there. Think my son received a $40 cert. from Stenograph.
You'll see what a wonderful profession you've chosen. Plus it's at Disneyland, right?? The happiest place on earth!
Hope I see you there!
P.S. -- the annual CCRA convention will be in Anaheim July 24-27; will you be there or drop in to say hello. Spend a day there and see what it's all about. This is your future career. Meet your colleagues. Oh, well, let me stop the rambling, but from one 20-year veteran reporter to a student: Welcome and have fun.
Court Reporter II is Supreme Court, and the starting salary is somewhat more, but I don't know what the amount is.
There's also a position called Hearing Reporter, which eals with, among other things, workers' comp cases. I believe the starting salary there is less than the $60G.
There's also grand jury reporter, which I believe is a county position, not a state position. I have no idea what the starting salary is for that. And, it would vary from county to county.
Hope all this info helps.
