Hey Nikki! It's great to hear you're still going strong in school. The best advice I can think of right now is to just keep your eyes on the prize and stay focused on you and your work and not on anyone else's. I'm sure you can tell by now that there are some people at your school that are just plain negative and always have bad vibes. Just ignore them! And if you have classmates that are doing GREAT and just flying along past you, possibly, IGNORE them, too! lol But if they're nice and have great tips, I don't mean that too literally, of course. Just pay attention to yourself and your progress because that's all that matters. While the others are flunking out or passing out (of class, lol) you still just have yourself, so take care of you and everything should fall into place. Well, that's my tidbit for today. :)
Work for me has been EXTREMELY hectic. Today is presumably the last day of a 2-week med mal trial I've been doing and it's been terribly med term dense, but I've gotten through it ok.
How's married life??
Keep up the good work, Nikki. We need more strong reporters out here :)
Hello,
Thank you for your post. Things are plugging along slowly. I'm having a problem with certain word combinations. My real problem is I'm not sure how many words I can fall behind and still feel comfortable. For example the tape will say " At what particular time did you know things were heading in the wrong direction?" I start stroking away, scared that I'm going to drop some words; and halfway through the sentence I realized that I missed two briefs. Therefore I have just made extra unnecessary strokes. Hence my speed is suffering. Have you ever encountered this situation?
Well, well, well; My Beautiful New Bride: How have you been? Now that you've written me, I had to go back to your site and get caught up and then turn on my "view thread". NOW, I'm ready for you. So, now, did I hear somebody correctly? You are "DUE"????? Well, now, I know I told you I was stepping back to let you two settle in and didn't want to infringe upon your honeymoon, but DAMN! I GUESS YOU DID JUS THAT! Well, a very hearty congratulations to you both. You will make another beautiful mother. I'm so happy for you both. Now, also I can feel that you're somewhat worried or depressed about your progress or something and others are passing or frustrating you. l'm actually from Jessica's advice to you and trying to picture what happened to call for that. Now, Nicolete, really! You are the recipient of a lot of advice from me. Why is ANYTHING getting to you? You've heard my stories and I've given you the secrets. I echo Jessica, who I believe is my friend also. Just concentrate and pay attention to the positive things you hear and expound upon that and go from there. Leave the negatives alone. They will do you no good and aren't worth the worry or attention that you may/might give it or be attempted to. Stay away from that. Why even entertain it? Now, I don't give my advice for anyone to just forget it later. That's true stuff I be telling yawl! Remember it, especially when you start receiving the negatives or the pessimists. I've told you a lot, and a lot of it is before your time or may not affect you yet. I told it to you that way so that when the time comes, you'd be prepared and ready. These negative and pessimistic people and times are just that. You should recognize it and brush it off....like a fly. Like Jessica said, Stay strong & remember what I told you. Everyone will have a story to tell or a book to write but before you do, you must live it first. You're doing just that and your book or story will be fascinating. I can tell already. How did your GSRA Convention go? Did you attend? I attended the NCRA in Anaheim, the CCRA in Las Vegas & the DRA (deposition reporters association) in Valencia near SixFlags as well as a CaseCatalyst workshop seminar weekend in Mesa, Arizona; all within 3 months. It was awesome. So much education and information. Now, I am "officially" a mentor. I was asked by someone in DRA and I'd told her I do that already on CSRNation. She wanted me to do it officially with live people hands on. So, I got two who were in my area. I got one in qualifiers and inherited whiz-kid in another who went from theory to 200 wpm in 9 months; and guess what? She's having problems in her self-confidence. Imagine that. If you want to meet her, let me know. She's also a member of CSRNation as well as my other mentee. Well, I guess I'll sign off for now. You didn't tell me of any problems or worries you had, so I guess I can't comment on them. I had to go find the ones I did, but I bet even you know that if you did tell me about them, I'd probably had already given you the advice or you probably know what I would have said. Peace out, baby; and take care. Welcome back and congratulations. You took quite a long vacation from this site. I missed you. Greetings to your husband!
Hey, Nikki! Hope you're having a great Christmas day with your family, and I hope you're in good health with your pregnancy.
I LOVE the Fusion because I haven't had any problems with it and I've had it for over 2 years now. As soon as I can, I'm going to start a discussion in the group about how much I really like it. Starting from the excellent touch of the machine to the LCD screen, it's just cool!
Hey, Nicolete! Congrats on being a court reporting student. It really is a great profession, as long as you can handle the stress. I see you're on Case Catalyst. Me, too. My husband is a voice writer and also uses Cat. I've been doing this a long time and would be happy to help you through the rough spots. Give me a shout when you need something.....Tosha
You know what? I thought about that too. I said " maybe she is online again" I just remembered that you were getting ready to deliver. It just seemed like yesterday when I found out you were pregnant. It went by so fast. I see that you just had a B-Day!!!!! well happy belated!!!!! mines is the 25th of this month as well. Voice is going pretty good. Alot of reading and breathing!!!!!
Hi Nicolete, how are you? It's nice to meet you too! I will be happy to answer any of your questions that I can. I am here hoping to get answers also. :-) What method or reporting are you learning?
Hi Nikki! Wanted to say hi and I miss you? How's school going? Has the new bundle of joy arrived yet? ;) You'll have to send me some pictures when you can! Hope things are well. Ttyl
Hi Nicolette,
I just wanted to see how you were doing? Did you finish school yet? I'm getting into my 180's. Things are coming along for me. How is the baby? I hope to hear from you soon.
Hey nikki, what's been up and how's the baby? Are you still online and if so when am I gonna see you back at the school. A lot has changed but voice is going good for me.
Hey Girlfriend. I just got back from dinner with the Court Reporters. Sorry you could not make it. It was short and sweet. The food was very good. We went to Chow Baby, a stir fry place. There wasn't a lot of shop talk. We did talk about testing. See ya at dinner next monthly hopefully. I am motivated!! I am getting ready to practice. I've got to get those three 180 LITs done this quarter. Talk to ya soon.
Hey Nicolette,
Thanks for the your friend acceptance and for answering my question. I'm a student too. I have two more tests till I'm in qualifiers!!! woot woot!! : ) I was wondering about Georgia because I'm looking to move out of state and wondering where a good place would be. I have a bunch of friends in the ATL but none knowledgeable about court reporting (they're all mostly high school friends not in the field). So let me ask you the common question: What speed are you at? : ) I don't know you so I can't ask the awful, dreaded, annoying question of..... How much longer do you have until your finished?!? ugh..hate that question. LOL!
Thanks again for the info.
OMG!! I thought I was busy with 3 kids ages 3, 7, & 10...but SIX!! you do have your hands full! I live in California so I can't just drive up for dinner, but it sounds great though. IThat's a great idea. I'll be in Virginia next month and will make my way to WA and if I still had time I was still deciding if I wanted to go to the ATL and visit friends before I come back.
What on-line school is it? I go to a great school with live dictation everyday and tests everyday too! You'd think I'd be done by now with tests everyday, but sometimes I'm not sure if that's a great idea. I know from some schools that have tests maybe twice a week and they have the mindset of "I NEED to get this test," but when you have tests everyday you tend to get the mindset of "Oh, well, I'll try to get it tomorrow." That's bad but that's what happens.
That's great though that you're doing your thing, kids and school, you are truly admirable. I shouldn't complain anymore! You do your thing, girl!
Yes. Girl I have learned that fact of life, about babies. Alexander is so precious adn fat chunky, we call him chunk chunk...lol. I will be putting pictures on here though
Wow! I've just reviewed the thread and see it's been about 10 months. I'm still here for you if you need me. You know I specialize in advise and mentoring. so, if I can be of help, let me know. I hope all is going well with the marriage and all and didn't I hear about you having another baby or something? Congratulations, if that's true. Now, where are you in your speeds? I've just mentored a young 23-year-old for 6 months and she passed the State CSR exam in flying colors. She scored over 99.05%. She was the only one in her school that passed. She is totally awesome AND SHE LISTENS. Take care and don't be a stranger, okay? Peace out, My Dear & God Bless.
Well, my Dear; it's good to hear from you again. I also will be going to a seminar this weekend. It's an all-day event in Valencia, near Six Flags Magic Mountain. It's called the DRA, (Deposition Reporters Association). It is indeed relaxing, where you can converse among one's colleagues. I went last year also. I have a mentee who I took on 1 month after last year's seminar and she was the recipient of our scholarship. she is not a court reporter having passed the State exam in flying colors. (oh, yeah, I told you that last time. I also have another mentee who was ahead of this one and she should have passed too, but she can't stop helping out her family whenever they need it. That has hindered her. With you, I know it's different; children are precious; but older folks? Something's gotta give and right now, it's her. Again congrats on your new baby. You and Javari are specially blessed women and nothing comes before both of our precious little ones. All that will pay off in the end. You'll see. I know of another girl who has been in the CR program 23 years and didn't pass her last two state exams. I was in there 13 years and took four tries. I know now how to pass and will advise others. I know what I was doing wrong. It won't happen to others, if I can help it and if they listen. Your time will come, My Dear; YOUR TIME WILL COME. Take care and I'm here if you need me. Let's enjoy this weekend with our profession, okay? Take care and Peace.
Hello, Nicolete. I've been away from this site for a while! Regrettably, I will not be attending the GSRA convention this weekend. Let's plan to meet at another time, real soon!
