    Hey, it's you! :o)
  • Lorrie L. Marchant

I was wondering what happened to you! Do you ever go to the NCRA seminars?
  • Tim Brunk

Sorry I missed y'all too. We'll chat soon though.

    Happy Easter, Jill!

Hope you have a great one!
  • Tami

    Oh, you visited!!

So happy to hear from you over here!!

What are you doing for Christmas??

And how's the almost empty nest going??
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

Jill, Did you get your CRF question answered? I'm wondering if you have hyperkeys on. If so, to do a global, you hit g. To turn on and off hyperkeys, it's Alt z. If you're in hyperkeys and you want to global a two-stroke word, you press 7. For a three-stroke, press 8.

First job is today. It's a horrendous drive, but he really didn't blink twice about that part. He is still awaiting his reporter software from Eclipse, so that was his only worry. Flying with the student version today, but it should be here this week -- hopefully today -- and will be able to just ran his disk into his system.

I'm way more nervous than he is. HA!

Maui was so much fun. I think we will be staying home for Christmas, too. My middle boys are wrestlers, so that will take up our holidays and go through Spring Break.

It's so hard to watch. My 14 YAOERLD, Chase, wrestled last night, and I about died. He just got braces two months ago, and he forgot his mouthpiece in his locker. So he starts the match, gets ripped, runs off the mat to go get his mouthpiece. While it was funny, I guess, because it was such a rookie mistake, it killed me watching the match.

It went three rounds. He was down by two points until about 30 seconds left in the last round -- they only go three -- and then he pinned him with 15 seconds left.

He was wrestling up a weight division, so the other guy had ten pounds on him.

Anyway, I have a love-hate relationship with that sport. :)

    How's Baby James doing??
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

I've been on the phone for over an hour, waiting to hang up to reply. Glad it's working! It's a talent to type and listen at the same time!!!
  • Tami

The job was tough for him. It would have been tough for me from what he described.

Sounds like he'll have a good story for the rest of his life about his first job.

Don't we all have one of those??? :)

I love basketball. Would much prefer to watch it than wrestling.

We just got to savor these moments, though. They'll be gone before we know it. I videotape all their games. I love watching them over and over. Silly, huh!
  • Tami

I don't know if my quiet guy will share.

Where does he get that from anyway??

It was an IME, Independent Medical Exam, for Judy. She's been so great and unbelievably supportive with him.

At one point the doc picks his nose -- got way in there -- gives it a stare and flicks it away, and the patient (wearing a gown) put out a low "ewwww."

I don't know if he reported the "ewwww" or not. :)

    Nice!

Maybe someday he'll share. Right now he's pretty beat up. It was two hours to get there and three hours to get home. He didn't really even complain about that part, though. Think he was really happy to have been given the opportunity.
  • Tami

    No software malfunctions. Thank God!
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

It might be good for possibly sick people like me and Joyce and Brenda, et al, to NEVER look at our dictionaries at all! Jill, Too funny! I know (and Brenda does too) that I'm smack in the middle of that "et al." I even spent well over an hour on my sister April Floyd's dix yesterday so she could fit it into her Stentura!
  • Dusty Usher

I read your article on Cheap and Sleazy and just wanted to take the time to thank you for taking the time to write it for Captioner-wanna-be's like me!! LOL! It was very informative and I can't wait to begin the long road ahead of me to one day become a broadcast captioner!!

  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

so can you say loser dedicated?

Thanks for cracking me up as I sit here scoping an awful rush job which reached 300 wpm on my RT stats more than a few times! Your comments are so encouraging to all of us - and we need that so much!
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

Jill, I'm honored to be your friend! I've known Ruthy since she was four years old! Her older sister was one of my best friends, and she was one of my sister's best friends. April Floyd on this site is my sister. This morning I'm driving 50 minutes to West Valley College to meet a reporter who's taking her CRR for the ...fifth time??? Not sure. I met her at the CRR I took, two years ago, and we've been online pals ever since. This will be further proof that we do meet up face to face occasionally, and I'm really looking forward to it. Her husband sits in the car and waits for her while she's at the test. I just spoke to him. They're so nice! Man, I hope she passes it. They drove hundreds of miles to get here. I can't wait to hear back from all who took it. Tina Givens is taking the CRR and RMR! More blabbing later, I'm sure!
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

UFRNL, she didn't pass it this time either! We're so bummed! Nerves did her in. She even forgot to put in some punctuation, and she never omits that in real life.

You know, I had to retake the RPR so I could take the CRR. The written was the hard part for me! Don't feel bad for one second about not having those initials. You're the envy of most of us - I could never do what you're doing!
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

Jill, you know I have the Grand, don't you? Email me if you've got some questions: jenlug@pacbell.net
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

I had to give up on the LS because it was aggravating my thumbs. I don't suppose I could give you a call. E-mail me, and I'll tell you more.
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

Jill, I haven't forgotten about that auto-brief request to Jeremy, but it will be a while. Maybe tomorrow. I've been majorly distracted over here - but I'm having fun!
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

You can put them right in your main dix Before you do, look at them and make sure you aren't using those particular strokes for anything. You may want to change those strokes also. You probably don't have "detect conflicts" checked in your user settings/edit tab when you're writing. You can check that before you Alt R these in, however, and if you have a conflict it will tell you. Just remember to uncheck that when you're done. Getting my massage in 8 minutes. Takes me 5 to get there, and I'm nekked!
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

Jill, my massage was painful but necessary! I hope the A/B's work for you. Let me know. If my directions were easy to follow, let me know and I'll post them somewhere.
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

Jill, I've emailed your regular email with a paste from Keith. Is it possible you didn't click on the import button on the left side of the macro box? Were you in a job at the time and not in your master ini? Not that I think it matters, but it may!
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

Jill, I posted the request to Jeremy on CR-NET. Pop over there and second the motion when you get a chance. Hope you're having a wonderful Mother's Day!
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

Jill, another reporter wanted our request too!
    http://www.eclipsecat.com/?q=node/4235

Did those A/B macros finally stick?
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

Did you talk to Trina here? She tried Veronica's Grand out today! I see and know all ...

Actually, I check the main page, and then click to find out stuff!
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

Jill, I hope you don't mind, but Brenda told me you couldn't post on the Dev part of CR-NET so I just posted this:
I'm posting for a captioner, Jill Driscoll, who also thought she'd like this option.

I had another motive for posting as I wanted to push my request up. They've really messed with the site lately, and I want it to be at the top! A few other reporters thought they'd want this option as well. I'm hoping more chime in. Any more Grand decisions???
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

    It is a big decision.

I read about your translation magic issue this morning. Do you also have fixed missstrokes checked? If not, maybe TM of zero is the best for you. Only you know how many it has fixed for you versus how many it has messed up for you. It could be that you need it off, but you would have to fight me to get me to turn mine off!
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

Do you know if you've got it checked already? I've got it checked.

Translation Magic lets you write long words that you do not have defined in your dictionary. Just write words phonetically and they'll translate correctly. Using Translation magic in addition to Fix misstrokes during translation, will give you reliable translations for multi-stroke words containing misstrokes. It will apply Dragged and Dropped keys to multiple steno strokes, and will ignore digits, Macros, {DELETE}, {FLUSH}, and automark.
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

Do you have dragged & dropped letters? I have fewer letters now than in the past. P*PL and STORT for dropped.
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

I'm so glad you're not turning off TM! Why I take it so personally when I hear that, I don't know (neurotic) but even at 15, 5 or 0, it can work wonders. I see Jeremy posted on CR-NET a while back about the fact that Global Magic will do a better job sometimes than TM. And I've found that it's true if TM misses, GM will have the word on the first or second choice. However, I believe you don't have the luxury of correcting with GM!

Actually, it was a really good post. If you missed it, here it is:
    http://www.eclipsecat.com/?q=node/4278

I'm feeling so sorry for myself I couldn't afford to go to LV this year. At this very moment, so many reporters we know are learning good stuff from Jeremy and Keith himself. I went for the first time last year. The problem for me then was I knew a lot of what was being taught as I jumped into the dev version so quickly that already had TM. But because I wasn't doing RT for others then, a lot of the wireless and Bridge info was over my head. And that's the very stuff I need to know now! Maybe next year ...
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

I'm thinking that you can't get into the dev section of CR-NET. I'll email you a copy in a minute. I can edit really quickly with Eclipse. The best thing to do is get into the tutor program that comes with it. It doesn't take long at all, and sets everything out for you. I pressured Brenda into learning hyperkeys, and she's never looked back! I also have many editing macros I've created. I edit with a combo of voice and keyboard. Gotta save my hands for "more important stuff" like taking a depo!

Any more ice-crunching cravings these days??? Hope not!
  • Brenda Rogers

LOL! Jenny did pressure me into hyperkeys, but I resisted for another six months. I kept forgetting to go into type mode, and really couldn't see the benefit of G over Ctrl-G. Big deal!

Then I started reading a little more about what hypers could do. Once I found the cursor movements, I was sold! I hate hate HATE the setup on this computer. The PgUp and PgDn keys are on either side of the up arrow key. Do you realize how easy it is to end up someplace completely different from what you expected?????

And since I have no patience to learn things one at a time, once I fell in love with that, the rest came within a month. What? Me learn a brief one at a time? When have you known me to do that? Same with hyperkeys. All the advice of taking it slowly and doing one thing at a time fell on blind eyes. LOL

(Think I should use that as a way to convince holdouts at the seminar in a couple of weeks?)
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

Jill, Remember that request to Jeremy regarding having the option to turn off automatic A/Bs so we only get them when we request one? Here's what Jeremy said about it today (finally!):

It's certainly possible. I've put it on my list for the next development cycle.

Hopefully the next cycle will be soon! I'm still loving those A/Bs! Hope you've had a nice week and get to enjoy a beautiful weekend. I'm off to my Mom's today to be waited on - she's made cookies! - and then a family graduation party tomorrow. I haven't been to a big family gathering in years!!! I feel like I've been glued to the computer. Too much good info on too many forums! Take it easy - Jenny
  • Jenny Griffin, RMR CRR CCRR CRC

Jill, if you only knew how many cookies I've had so far - and I know the party is having fantastic food as well. But I'll never tell. Who can refuse a Mom-baked cookie???
