Hi Helen,

I'm a student at New England Court Reporting Institute (necri.org). I just finished Theory and have started Speed. I'm working in my first tests at 80 wpm so I have a ways to go. I go to class online now but used to go to the Taunton campus. When you look at the website you'll see the two different campus sites. One's on the north shore and the other is on the south shore.

I prefer living on the south shore but I'm sure you can find people who would say they love living on the north shore. You might also be interested in living in Boston. Public transportation is awesome so you don't need a car to get around. There are places I would caution you not to live, every big city has them, but there are lots and lots of great places with tons of nightlife.

But if you have a car, then car insurance can be pricey living in the city, but having a car gives you more flexibility to live a little further from the city where apartments are more affordable.

My email address is sharontass@gmail.com if it would be easier for you if you have more questions. I love living in Massachusetts.

Good Luck,

Hi Helen,

You really should be at 225 wpm to start working. That was the requirement for graduation at the school that we had here.

The most important thing for you to do is practice as much as you possibly can. That will get you through the speeds much quicker. It really does make a difference.

Hang in there. It's definitely worth the effort you put in. In May, it will be 30 years I've been reporting. I still love what I do. The better you become, the less it will feel like work.

Hi Helen,

There is no requirement to be licensed in MA. I use Eclipse software, but there are probably more Case Catalyst users here. Work has been slow due to the economy, but I'm sure it will pick up again. When do you plan on moving to MA?
